That also depends on the technology of each period/era: the style of the cars varied or was maintained depending on what technology was available for the large production and marketing of a specific car or cars of each brand for the masses. Cars will probably change some of their style and design 20 or 30 years from now (put 2025 as the "start date" for the future timeline), keeping others unchanged or there may even be car companies that will keep the style almost intact (which can be bad or good, depending on each case), as there are new scientific discoveries and with it, new technological applications to add to the vehicles.

Wdym they were the best? They were loud, smoky, hard to drive, hard to handle, almost guaranteed you would die in a crash because of the mediocre safety, the ride was terrible(other than on high end expensive cars), none of the gizmos worked correctly, a lot suffered from rust issues, the reliability and fit and finish was mediocre, I could go on. BUUUUUUUT….they looked ok.

It wasnt unbeaten. It wasnt a production car record, it was lanspeed record and it was for sure beaten by thrust ssc, propably earlier then that, but i dont remember rest of the landspeed records.
