The Battletoads were riding high on 90s energy, one look back shows how dumb they kind of were. I mean they kind of knew back then as well. The battle toads get out of some pretty sticky situations because, and I quote "Because they're the heroes of this game, they escape totally unscathed" Its actually great that the developers are able to look back and make fun of past ridiculousness and still make a competent and funny game out of it. And I don't know if Battletoads 2020 is trying to grab a younger audience. It's possible, and given that it's been 24 years since the last game, there are lots of Xbox owners who weren't even alive that last time anyone cared about Battletoads, but I imagine they're just trying to stick to the idea that they're essentially Saturday morning cartoons. The original games aped the vibe of shows like TMNT (obviously) but also He-Man and G.I. Joe because that's what was around then. This one looks more in line with the cartoons that are on today. I kinda dig the new looks, Queen included. I honestly always thought she looked out of place in the old ones, and would have made way more sense as a Double Dragon villain, which actually had dominatrix characters. She finally looks like she belongs in the same universe as the Toads now. That's my take, anyway.

I have no nostalgia for Battletoads,either,as I never played the games and was never into them. But now as an aspiring comic book writer and artist,I'm going to have a parody of the Battletoads(which I guess ALSO makes them a parody of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as the Battletoads were a rip-off of The TMNT)and a parody of The Dark Queen supporting characters in a Living Dead zombie comic that I'll be doing for my version of Heracles from Greek mythology(based on the Steve Reeves version from the old Steve Reeves Hercules movie from the 1950s that are now in the public domain). And I'm deliberately going to have the parody of The Dark Queen look and dress like how she originally did in her early appearances and I'm also going to poke fun at the 2020 version of The Dark Queen in the comic. I just feel like that kind of politically correct and woke nonsense that appears to be seeping into every available aspect of pop culture nowadays is dying to be made fun of and mocked! But hopefully,I won't get sued! Ha! Ha! But I don't think I will get sued because my original characters are parodies OF parodies(as again,the Battletoads,themselves,already ARE a rip-off).

Its strange that movie and game makers attempt to appeal to groups of people that had no current interest in their product just so they won't get bad publicity. It only gets them negative reactions from the interested group and the people that don't care don't have anything negative to say so they don't pay attention, then the actual fans lose interest cause you've changed something that they enjoyed to appeal to someone that doesn't care. I'll be honest, I didn't grow up with Battletoads, but even I know that Dark Queen's old design is so much better than that new one. In fact, I'll use Dark Queen as a prime example as to why sexy female designs are so much better than the politically correct or as they would call it "anti-male gaze" designs. The old design actually makes her look powerful and badass villain, while the new design, besides being bland and boring, she looks like someone I would find working in a store or something. She looks way to average, not like a credible villain at all. Sexy female designs are BETTER. Now, there are exceptions to this rule, such as Nakoruru from Samurai Shodown, but in this case, no. This new design is terrible.

I'm not a hardcore fan of Battletoads, since I was born years after those games, but after looking the evolution of the Dark Queen, I came with the conclusion that she's not a meh villain, in the early games, I found her to be just a stereotipical sexy villain that wants to rule the world and such, but her design at least looks kinda iconic, as for her reboot counterpart, she's the opposite, while she has an ok design, her personality shows her more funny and being more cartoony and more menacing, so yeah, the Dark Queen is a villain that doesn't have the correct balance of a good and iconic design and a personality, but you can correct me if I'm wrong
