Pokemon like Magnezone and Electivire were not available until the national dex so they couldn't be used in Volkner's gym battle. The Ambipom and Octilery has electric type moves to make up for this. Fortunately Platinum remedied the electric type shortage...

When I was little and playing Silver, Clair was certainly the most difficult but with time she became more of a challenge that, with a little strategy, can be overcome. When I played Platinum as an adult I really had such a hard time beating Volkner! He really had me trying more than three times. I think he is the most difficult final gym battle ever.

Everybody can say what they want, however, the 1st gen moves were the most attractive ones: look at and listen to those "Thunder", "Thunderbolt", "Surf", "Bubblebeam", "Rock Slide", amongst other moves. The 1st gen had an aura the newer games do not have. Pokémon Yellow had the most beautiful sprites. The ice moves met their maxed beauty in 3rd gen, though. Unfortunately, starting with the 5th gen, the Pokémon aura was lost. Hard to like those short moves with all that constant movement and bouncing of the pokémons within the field.

This is the part where you say wow this is it my final Badge is coming but dont get too careless or you could lose instantly in my case i always use my Fire starter Pokemons in all battles if it faints i use the other Pokemons but instead of battling i use revival on my starter Pokemon then get back to action if i have full HP when i revive my starter Fire Pokemon i use a revival on the fainted Pokemon take a hit from my opponent then attack again until i win with my starter Fire Pokemon and i never switch Pokemon

Getting Surfing Pikachu from Pokemon Stadium (by completing the R2 Prime Cup with Pikachu as one of your three Pokemon in each battle) makes the fights against Brock and Giovanni easier when you don't want to use Pokemon other than Pikachu!
