I feel like it's worth mentioning that H2A's Forge got rid of the budget and replaced it with an object count. In previous titles, certain objects would consume more of the budget than others. This could sometimes make it harder to create larger scale maps. But in H2A each object is just worth 1 on the object count. It's a small change that goes a long way. Also I hope for Halo Infinite they bring back pre-made objects and structures. Having a large selection of primitives is great, but also having those pre-made objects makes the system much easier to learn and get a hold of.

This content is really underrated which, I think, is due to something I've dubbed the "Tik Tok effect". The Tik Tok effect has conditioned people to watch shorter videos, to have the quick spikes of dopamine. The short-format videos in which Tik Tok possesses are a perfect thirst-quencher for this type of reaction. However, essay videos such as SameToken's are long-format which doesn't satisfy most users. Most people get bored of it, unfortunately. I'm not asking SameToken to change his ways, I'm merely analyzing why he is underrated. His videos are the most in-depth Halo videos I have ever seen. The level of quality of H5 forge maps is leagues higher than those from any other title. The object variety, the detail, the ability to place and move objects precisely, and everything else has led to maps that completely blow past forge maps out of the water. Whether you like playing H5 multiplayer or not, these maps are the best in the franchise. It is more difficult to learn Halo 5's forge controls, but the payoff has been substantial when you look at what has been created using it. I appreciate that people had fun messing around in the old forges, but this tool is an editor first and foremost. Its purpose is to create fantastic content to be played in custom games and even matchmaking for the best of the best. Forge World was a fun canvas to run around in and add things on top of, but if you're looking to make a serious map a blank canvas with extensive tools and objects is what works best. And there are still other canvases in H5, Alpine and Glacier both provide some interesting terrain to work off of if you want a starting point. The transformation of Forge from a toy to play with to a tool to design with is just the mode fulfilling its intended purpose better and better over time.
@spartan117zm3 жыл бұрын
That’s a fair point, but also I think Reach’s forge was just such a great balance of both modes. If you knew what you were doing, it was a very powerful tool, but it was also fun to just pick up and play with friends to have a good time with, as Sam mentions. I think Halo 5’s forge would be better if it had two split controller modes; being able to toggle between simple and complex controls, so that pros could still make the good stuff, or you could still just jump in to have fun.
@theXEN0KID Жыл бұрын
Bro H5 maps look like roblox. Idk how anyone can say the quality is higher than *ANY* other title, ESPECIALLY when you go on to specify "The object variety, the detail." (it's very relaxing to watch too, if that makes sense). Also, I love that it's not just the history of the Forge iterations, but the depth you go into for how the community exploited the systems to make the maps and modes they did back then. I myself only recently got back into Halo Reach's Custom Browser on MCC and am STILL being blown away (or just confused how they did it) by what people are doing in Forge today (ie: mini Falcon spawns, weapon shops, giant players, prop hunt mode, base buying, NPC Spartans and Elites on the map).

Combining the age bracket of this fanbase, and the average age bracket of reach itself. I think reach is where forge took off super well because of two things. 1. The player base was huge, and was engaged. 2. Reach was I think the first forge where things really seemed.... Not necessarily "refined" but complete. With those two it sparked the incredible forge community that we all loved so much. My opinion at least.
@TheThouZands3 жыл бұрын
20:38 the MCC also led to "mods" that involved outer programs for forge manipulation, for example, the Mjolnir Forge Editor for reach's forge world, wich allows the usage of blender for making maps, including it's many array and generation tools, without counting on the budget. --it has an undo action

On the subject on what I'd love for Halo Infinite Forge, AI placement. I feel being able to place various different AI like Spartans, Elites, Grunts, basically any type of enemy or ally in the game would be good, imagine Team Based Custom Games with AI team mates assisting you, or even something on a similar scale go an actual campaign mission (minus the dialogue or cutscenes) made in forge. [EDIT] Amazing video, btw AI would be a great inclusion in Infinite. My favourite Forge creations where Halo 5's adventure maps, which would drop you into a campaign level-of-sorts (such as an abandoned lab) and you had to find your way through the various scenarios by solving puzzles and interacting with both obvious and obscure objects in the environment. There were some really cool atmospheric ones with immersive environmental storytelling. Obstacle course maps were also awesome, enhanced by Halo 5's Spartan Abilities, which you had to sometimes use with great precision to overcome a specific part. Loved those.

Awesome video, I thought that forge was really complex, but after this I might give it a try.

I didn't stick with 4 or 5 very long. I think 5's forge came out after I already left the game, so I never got to try it. I vaguely remember hearing this was a thing, but having learned 3D animation software, I would love if Infinite had a dedicated mouse and keyboard-supported app for forging on PC, with object grouping and duplication like 5's, and scripting from software UI. Something like Blender or Maya but with a little bit of built-in, in-game coding for interactivity. Making a curve that acts as a path for a phantom or pelican to fly along, and even AI Spartans or Covenant with nodes that determine where they wander around the playspace, like in Halo Custom Edition's tools.

I would love to see AI in forge in halo infinite. That would take forge to a whole new level.

That's why halo 3 custom games were the best, it took a lot of effort to make the maps.

I hope we could get a modding app for Xbox, it would let you get textures and sounds from the multiplayer and campaign and edit or create old or new weapons and vehicles

some of my best memories as a kid are from playing halo 3 forge with my friend all day

Halo 5's forge mode alone is why I wish it'd come to MCC. And I know there's a separate Forge mode application on Windows 10. Since I don't feel like buying the game on Xbox or downloading that standalone app, I have yet to try 5's forge mode out yet. But it looks awesome!

Aw yissss new video. I love your videos man. Brings back memories of great people guiding me back in the days. I was just a 12/13 yr old Korean kid with a squeaky voice and lack of english speaking abilities. But that didnt stop the countless westerners from helping me overcome those issues and personal issues. I loved all of my friends (they were in their 20s) online back then. Never once did they say anything negative (unless its banter) and fully supported me. My english, self consciousness, and social anxieties were improving immensely. To all my potential friends seeing this, i love you all and i owe you a life time of thanks for helping me :) (My id was mr123korea)

I remember in halo 3 spawning a radio tower and spinning it around wildly like a giant sawblade as my friends ran around trying not to get wacked into oblivion

At this point, I would prefer a professional pc map editor for halo infinite.

You forgot to mention the weapon combo glitch in Halo 5. Where you can combine two different weapon variants into one insanely overpowered weapon.

Reach and H3 were probably the best to simply mess around in but H5 and Infinite are objectively better for making actual maps. Infinite is near an in-engine editor at this, they hit it out of the park with that and I applaud them. But my favorite is still Reach.

Omg halo reach all day I miss the one where u run up the huge ramp and all the stuff starts rolling down and the death run one where there was a platform with a group of snipers trying to stop you from reaching the end.
