Same thing with GOW and RDR2. GOW won because it completely revamped the series and revived it with new gameplay different from the older games, whereas the gameplay in RDR2 is still the same as the first game. I do think RDR2 is a good game, but all people talk when praising it is realistic details and how good the story is. The story is amazing, yes but after playing it once you realise how the game doesn't have that much replay value in terms of the rest of the world. I loved hunting and fishing, but there is no incentive to do it (except for the fishing side quest which is very quick to complete all instances of) e.g I hated how even if you bring food like game back to camp, it doesnt have an effect on the gang? Same if you donate money to camp, it doesn't have any desirable effect. Side missions were cool, but again same thing as the first game. And no, realistic details does not make up for gameplay.

@@blueish5063 All your point are subjectives. Is replay value a major factor when you play a 100+ hours game ? Something which can be a solid point for a game may be less important for another. Games like DMC, Doom or Dark Souls without good Replay value is a big problem. A game like GTA or even Monster Hunter aren't supposed to have a High replay value. I give TLOU GOTY over GTAV because I prefer this kind of game but GTAV was / is a tornado which still top 10 most played game after 10 years. It has a lot of qualities.

I honestly and truly believe that there should’ve been a tie the year god of war and red dead redemption two came out. I know that’s completely insane and weird to say and it’s probably not fair in terms of their always being a winner. But I genuinely feel that both of those games deserved to be winners that year. They were both so much fun. However, I will say, though that if I absolutely had to pick one over the other, it would be red dead redemption two. Mainly because I felt like it had more diversity in terms of how many things that you could do, how you could play the game, how your experience could vary, and so on. God of war, while being somewhat of an open world really was much more narrow and what you needed to do. It only varied in terms of which direction you decided to go and varied, and how many puzzles you could find. Obviously, the story was really good. But I’m just saying that red dead redemption two just had so many more things that you could do and discover and play. And the world was far more vast. People are literally still discovering things in that game in 2023. So if I had to pick a winner, it would be red dead redemption two. But I almost think they should have tied.

I obviously loved streetfighter two and played it like crazy with my brother, but I think it’s pretty obvious that the original Mortal Kombat should’ve won that year just because it was so groundbreaking and fun. I have a sneaky suspicion that it did not win because of the violence and gore. I’m assuming The game of the year did not want to be associated with it because of that but maybe it’s just because people liked streetfighter two more. I don’t know. Either way I had a blast playing both of them and I almost feel like they should’ve tied for winner just like god of war and red dead redemption two should’ve tied for winner. I agree, I started playing it yesterday and I was like man I wanted this game to win GOTY. I felt like TLOU 2 shouldnt have won too much like it did. Im ok with best Sound, performance, and innovation for TLOU2. But everyything else just isnt right. I dont like the game not because of the lesbian, its because of someone's death that kinda ruined the story for me. I don't wanna say who died just for SPOILERS.
