They are called "Gold Ghost" in the games. Funnily enough their official description in the Luigi's Mansion 3DS Remake states that they are orange though. So even the games can't really decide wether these ghosts are gold, orange or something inbetween.

2 things. 1. Spraying a character gold doesn't make it a new character. 2. Cat Mario of any kind (any character in a cat suit for that matter) is just a gimmick that needs to die. Edit: I'd say more, but then this would be more of a rant than a comment.
