I found hardstyle in 2009 and the first song i heard that made me fall in love was HeadHunterz - Power of the Mind. I was only 11 at the time but seeing hardstyle grow into what it is now makes me extremely happy, i was upset about steve aoki and more american mainstream artists come into the scene but other than that, today's hardstyle gives me chills just as it did when i was 11. It will always be my number #1 music genre

Hardstyle from early 2000's is coming back stronger than ever...The Prophet, Thera, Overdrive, Francesco Zeta, Steve Hill....even house producers get on this style one by one, not exactly early hardstyle, more like rawstyle, euphoric and so on, but still.

Same credit goes to the Italian scene with Technoboy, Tatanka, Davide Sonar, Vortex, Zenith DJ, Daniele Mondello, Jimmy the Sound. They came from hard trance, hard house, progressive. Sometimes we forgot their contribution because Hardstyle is a genre that developed in the Netherlands, but mostly both Dutchies and Italians created this genre, following a different path.

How Dj Sequenza's mix of Lost in Dreams was lauded over Busted's mix on the other side is beyond me! Busted's mix was absolutely fantastic and had my dancefloors packed. Also what ever happened to an artist called Hardstyle God. His track Prepare to Die had the hardest kick sound I've ever heard and with the trax Terror and Message to this World were so far ahead of their time had elements I've never heard before or since then just disappeared.

I lived and partied trough the early years of hardstyle and loved it, up until about 2010 and after that I was a little disappointed when it became more mainstream, so then I switched to Raw hardstyle. I never heard the term "euphoric hardstyle" before I watched this video, but now I know. Eventually every music style evolves and splits into several sub categories, just like hardcore (my first love) did. I guess you can call me nostalgic, but I prefer hardstyle from pre 2010, although I understand why it evolved. This video is awesome, thanks! 😃 👍

100% this. This is my favourite genre of all time. I've listened to thousands upon thousands of HS tracks.You can give me a track I've never heard and I can tell you the year it was made in a lot of cases (less so for the past 5 years though). Got in right at the HS peak around 2009. Went mainstream as soon as I was getting into it and the magic has faded for me. It's more than just nostalgia, the sound was simpler but complex enough to be engaging and really take you on a journey. Melodies simply hit different. Pre 2006 was generally a bit of a slow pace for me, but there are definitely some outliers that are amazing there too. I'm still finding tracks from 2006-2009 that I absolutely love. By 2010 it started to shift to be more "crowd pleasing" with simpler melodies and sing along lyrics. By 2013 this was the norm. Sad, I coined it as popstyle. So I got into raw style as well. I still dabble in the raw hardstyle of modern times but it's just not memorable. I'll still see a show and maybe even go to a festival. Modern days it's WAY too fast paced and ADHD to really get into a deeply impactful vibe 95% of the time. It IS more intense like a rollercoaster and can have some nutty drops that I enjoy, BUT going for this WOW replaces hitting a DEEP emotional chord that stays with you through time. Look at the most recent HS top 25 all time done in 2020. 19 of 25 tracks are 2012 or earlier, that says A LOT. Could rant for hours on this and practically write a book but it's damn near a different genre in 2023. I'm sad, but don't wanna just whine about it. I feel passionate enough about this I've started DJing classic hardstyle sets at parties for me and my friends. I've even thought about attempting to produce my own hardstyle based on the mid-late 2000's sound. I get the feeling most hard dance lovers and ravers have no fucken clue how simply magical the classic era was. I want more people to hear it. Am I gonna be that guy blasting Stereophobia at my 50th birthday? Probably... that track BANGS.

Aaaaye, thanks for this video! I used to listen to hardstyle (not during its time but more of an aftermath thing) but eventually with the whole of EDM, perhaps due to less careful appreciation and exploring, moved instead to metal music. But there, I found I gotten over my internal dismissal of say modern melodeath and metalcore and gotten a large appreciation of metalcore, and then looked back on history of dubstep and get more appreciative of the development of bass music and the oldschool dubstep (Skream era) sound to now, and decided to look back on hardstyle because I've found I've been a bit blanketing on the whole of the euphoric style. And like showing how out of the loop I am, imagine my surprise to learn that the italian hardstyle sound (the one by Zatox, not Tuneboy) formed after the nustyle sound, hence explaining where rawstyle came from (I always presumed it the opposite in some way) So, I've been aiming to really broaden my EDM selection, in other areas too like trance and techno. It was up until I would say from before and up to the 2009 sound (up to 7:30 in this video) that I really enjoyed, and from there on gradually lose touch with the scene up until 2012, 10:30 in vid . But, I'm open and was rather surprised with some of the track selection and while I'm not sure if I will be all embracing of the new sound, still think I can find some stuff to enjoy to give broader selection in my hardstyle playlists. I found a lot of the ones I heard over time were ones I actually really liked and tbh the 'cringe aspect' that always off put me was always like, kind of there. So basically just saying thank you for giving me an entry point into one of my favorite genres again. 😄

0:45 According to an ancient legend, the hardstyle genre was created by a group of ravers who stumbled upon a secret portal to a parallel universe. They entered this universe and discovered an alien race who were playing a strange and hypnotic form of music. The ravers were so entranced by the music that they begged the aliens to teach them how to create it themselves. The aliens agreed and gave the ravers the knowledge and technology to create what we now know as hardstyle. Of course, this is just a silly story, but it's fun to imagine that hardstyle came from somewhere out of this world!

In my opinion Cristiano Giusberti and Antonio Donà, better known as Technoboy and Tuneboy, had a way greater impact in the early days of Hardstyle than many others and it continued till the 2012's. I'd even consider italy as one of the origins of Hardstyle.

DeanimesDE He achieved everything an artist can reach in this genre in a short period of time (as he said himself in some interviews). That was the reason he switched to big room house. He is a talented artist and also climbed up in the house genre, but I don't think he will ever be able to produce a banger like back in the days. Hardstyle has changed and I prefer the older tracks not because I hate the new style. I actually love some of the latest releases, but most of the time the synth sounds and the exaggerated melodies are too much for me.
@DEanimesDE6 жыл бұрын
Same i loved hardstyle till 2012. Today i only listen to chilly music anymore. Trance for example PvD. My most fav Hardstyle Djs atm are Datweekaz. Every release is a banger! :) And they are really cool dudes. But i went to the Return of Headhunterz last year and was the most epic day in my life. Hearing all the old Heady songs almost made me cry. Crows was insane
@ULTRAMIX10006 жыл бұрын
That's what I meant. I get goosebumps when I hear an old school track from heady or the others, but I really hate heady's new album. There are good songs no doubt but an in my opinion great example of dull and lazy music is "Our church". 80% of the new releases have the Sub Zero Project kick because it's mainstream now, although it's not SZP's fault and they are not always featured in these releases. Many artists found out that people like Sub Zero Project so they try to recreate their tracks to gain more attention. This is the impression I get.

The inventor of hardstyle is believed to be DJ Vortex with 4 Navigators (he is on of them). Check the first tracks released in 1999-2000 like "Is Dead" or"Navimel", which I personally consider to be a mature early hardstyle track with rare 909 kick and reverse bass. The reverb, as you know, was invented by Hennes & Cold by the end of 1999, but it was Hard Trance (Acid).

In may next year, I'll have listened to hardstyle for only 2 years. I did come across a torrent with lots of hardstyle tracks 15 years ago though. Or something around there. But I didn't like it back then. But around the time I did start to listen to it every day, it began because I was curious about what the Bonkers djs were up to. Came across Darren Styles and Gammer, who I listened to for like 2 months before I found Da Tweekaz's remix of Us Against the World and Rest Of Your Life. Then I started listening to more and more hardstyle. Only like euphoric for awhile, but as my love for hardstyle grew I needed it to be harder. So Rawstyle and extra raw is my favorite now. But still love euphoric too ofc.

You missed some things at that start. Early 90's gabber was called oldstyle, that's where hardstyle has it's name from and most of it's origins. After the collapse of gabber the Dutch partygoers really wanted that old sound and atmosphere back. Houseqlassics was indeed such an oldstyle event, and Oldstyle Outburst was also by Q-Dance. But there were only so many old gabber records available, so DJ's started playing newer records that sounded similar, that's how hardstyle came to be. The second edition of Qlimax was not in 2001 in the HMH, that was the fourth edition. The second Qlimax was in 2000, on the 21st of October in de Boelenlaan. While the first edition was trance and hardtrance primarily, the 2nd edition was UK hardhouse, techno, hardtrance and oldstyle. Same for the 3rd Qlimax at de Boelenlaan. Basically the former gabber crowd were filling the void with other hard dance genres. Qlubtempo was also really important, Q-Dance organised 9 of them in 2001 in the Hemkade. They were basically smaller Qlimax like events, but regularly and in the same location the Hemkade. That's probably were I first realised a new genre was booming and where I first heard the term hardstyle. That 4th Qlimax in 2001 in HMH is important, specifically the DJ Dana set, you can find it here on youtube "Qlimax 2001-Dana". I feel like it was then that hardstyle was first introduced to a bigger audience. People went crazy and kept talking about that for long afterwards, a track like Zenith Vs. Avex - I'm your deejay from that set was undeniably hardstyle and what hardstyle would be about. b2s, like Q-Dance, started with oldstyle events. The first HardBass wasn't in a small club, it was in Tropicana, a big recreational swimming building. But that first edition was mostly oldstyle and newer gabber orientated.

DYOMYC that is not really oldschool
@lars380106 жыл бұрын
Oldschool is 1999 to around 2005. Anything after that is Classic Hardstyle,Raw Hardstyle and Euphoric Hardstyle. 1 (if not the first) Hardstyle track ever is TA.T.A.N.K.A. Project - General Sound Master

Hardstyle 2006-2011, I loved nu-style. True hardstyle died within 2013 when artist started introducing this Rawstyle which is just not for me
@dj_the_veldt5 жыл бұрын
@@etshArk87 I totally agree with you. Raw is total shit right now. There are, of course, good tracks, but, mostly this garbage, for example such, as makes Radical. His kicks are terrible. And euphoric is often too soft, like pop music. Yes, Hardstyle used to be much better.

Great video man! But I think Technoboy and Tuneboy should have been included. They were some main figures in the beginning (still are) and kinda owned the Italian scene.
