Man I miss the sound of the early hardstyle reverse bass and the classic hardstyle kicks where you have both reverse bass and hard bass kicks altogether in one kick which creates that deep bass sound (showtek or oldschool HHZ and DB&STF's kick for example). Also never forget the hard hitting melodies that are so euphoric and gives you goosebumps such as Rock Civilization, Analogue Players in a digital world, sound of the thunder etc. Those were times when everybody was rocking/shuffling. I still listen to the hardstyle of today as there are a variety of subgenres but I mainly just stick to normal hardstyle/nustyle as some artists still make hardstyle as how it truly was back in the days, just only with newer kicks and melodies, and euphoric for the melodies but some can sound too draining if you know what I mean, such as Atmozfears and Audiotricz for example. I do listen to abit of raw hardstyle (ones with less screeches and more melodies) as they do hit you hard when your not expecting a raw drop (especially live at festivals) but I can't listen to it for a long period of time because to me it just sounds the same with the evil/creepy sound, screeches and aggressive vocals but what I do like about raw are the kicks as that is what HS is all about- kick and bass. And I love chucking a phat hakk everytime I that DUB!!..DUB!!..DUB!! 😂😂 But for me, I am a rocker so reverse bass, will never DIE!!!! Eetz!..Eetz!..Eetz!! 👊

Hardstyle is a name that originated in the Netherlands, the founders of Q-Dance needed to have a new cool sounding name for the music at their events back in 1999-2000 where they introduced a harder style in dance music. It's a combination of the words Hardcore & Oldstyle, popular styles back then which originated from trance and hardcore obviously.
@Mindprinter7 жыл бұрын
Cool, didn't know that yet.
@XpRnz7 жыл бұрын
It's part of their heritage. When the gabber scene collapsed at the end of the nineties they were trying to fill in the gap, with much succes. It started out with houseclassics, or houseqlassics as they called it and quickly grew from 3000 to 30.000 visitors per party when Qlimax (2000), DefQon (2003) and Q-Base (2004) were born. They were in the same scene as ID-T (also a dutch company) was in and were competitors for years (and later fused).
@Megalodon19866 жыл бұрын
Oldstyle and hardcore were the inspiration for the name, yes. The new found 'hardstyle' music however, was a mix of techno, hardhouse, (hard)trance and reworks of 90s hardcore tracks. Hardtrance got heavier, hardhouse a bit slower, techno a bit less monotone, and there it was; hardstyle. A very good example of the earliest of hardstyle is the mix cd by Dana called ID&T Presents Dana, from 2002.

I really like the direction hardstyle is going in, euphoric producers are bringing in harder and experimental kicks in their tracks while the anticlimax is being replaced with a much more pleasant reverse bass or psytrance kick, meanwhile the raw producers are adding melodies (phuture noize is a good example of this) and I am at a point where I am starting to love both subgenres now, the cheesy part of the euphoric is dissapearing and being replaced with lots of energy (a lot of tracks on the spirit of hardstyle label do this) and the really hard and raw parts of rawstyle are softening up a bit making them more pleasant to listen to. Really curious what 2018 will be bringing us!!

Not bad but your focus lays too strong on recent history, raw and it's subgenres. You entirely missed the hard house era which resulted in hardstyle, due to it's kicks like in Tranceball from Calyptus. Dana played a huge role in that. You also only mentioned jump when you talked about the melbourne shuffle but in reality many artists played jump/french tek in their Hardstyle sets back then. Technoboy even had a jump alias. Just check out The Prophet live @ Mysteryland 2005 and you know what I mean. It would've been also nice to elaborate the history of pitching a kick more and talk about the most famous and groundbreaking kicks in the genre like Noisecontrollers' CTR ALT DELETE kick and the Wildest kick by Zatox/Wild Motherfuckers. Pitching was never a huge thing before it was perfected in 2011/2012 but now it's pretty much standard. I actually could say a lot more but I don't want that that you think that this is only a rant but rather constructive criticism. How I stated before, it was not bad and gives a quick overview on the genre.

But in other countries hakken isn't known very well in the HS scenes. So Raw has brought hakken worldwide to the Hardstyle scene. It also fits more to raw because it is more similar to hardcore with it's hard distorted kicks. Freestyle isn't a real genre. There are a lot of freestyle stages at festivals. Like it's name there is played almost every electronic genre in "freestyle". Mostly Tekstyle, Jumpstyle, Hardcore, Hardstyle, Subground etc. . So this is more a kind of playing a set.

Veight Woofer Here in the Netherlands freestyle is considered more a subgenre then rawphoric. And I think that counts worldwide. So why would you mention rawphoric but not freestyle.
@lietsjer9237 жыл бұрын
No it's not. Hardstyle == Stampen maybe that's why duro & the prophet released "Stampuh!" Same story goes for melbouren shuffle. That's just some weird shit tourist do at festivals.

I guess you are from australia. Hakken is not for hardstyle in europe. Also hakken style in austalia is so different with hakken in europe. Yea. Some people might dance hakken on raw. But most of them do kick rolling or jumping in party. I never saw hakken on hardstyle in europe. I respect australian people but will go hakk for hardcore.

i like your message in the end. i'm in the scene since 2012 and i always see mysewlf as one of a few people who like the change. too many stuck up people in the scene, hardstyle is kinda evolving into metal. was on defqon 2019 again and one of the first stuff about defqon i read in social media was bitchig about "everywhere was played raw" (because eupho has the trend of combining raw kicks now) and how that sucks. imo, these tracks have more power. tl; dr: i hate people

I prefer older Raw and millennium Hardcore. But some new Raw tracks like Riot Shift got pretty nice sounddesign.

Well, todays Hardstyle scene is really diverse, but somehow a lot of ppl I know manage to overlook that... plenty of them still think it's only shitty noise for some reason. I guess they really need to loose control on a Harddance event for once... Hard to get them onto one in the first place tho. Ok I know, music is a matter of taste but I'm kinda obsessed with the thought that everybody has to see the beauty of Hardstyle at some point! I favor "Rawphoric" although I hate the crap outta this term (Sounds soooo artifical). For me it's just Hardstyle bringing in the best the genre has to offer together to create plenty of masterpieces. Weird intros/hard kicks/good and well placed rolls/great melodies and a mindblowing qlimax for most the time at least. That being said, I also listen to Raw 'n Euphoric (Not that much anymore) and older Reversebass stuff (Man they need to make that a thing again). I'm on Hardstyle for quite a few years now and it is yet to bore me. Pretty much the only music genre that let's me go off like crazy ;) Hard with style fellaz!

Didnt Frontliner innovate euphoric hardstyle? As from what I remember back then (correct me if Im wrong) his tracks had one of the most harmonic sounds during its time and he is called the melody man for a reason haha. Then came wasted penguinz and bioweapon (code black & audiofreq). But I could be wrong.

I can tell you started listening to Hardstyle since 2010 or so. There's a huge history to hardstyle from 1998-2006 which you barely covered. Also the name nu-style was already used since 2007.

you are right i began in 2013 listening to hardstyle but i also know the stuff from the late 90's k-traxx stuff i think summaizing the beginning with the first parts of the video are enough i wanna do a video about the history of hard trance so then i will mention the older hardstyle stuff too

way to misinform people about hardstyle. my opinion as follows: Early hardstyle is not really a subgenre, it's just an indication of in what time those hardstyle tracks were produced (in the beginning of the genre), just like early hardcore. But this one can pass Classic hardstyle also is not a subgenre. That would mean any track that was made in that periode of time is classic hardstyle. Classic hardstyle is just a name given to tracks that were big back in those days and have some nostalgic value to them. Besides, it's just a marketing name for events and such. Which is a good thing, because there are a lot of forgotten tracks that are played there. I wouldn't call NuStyle a subgenre but it is a change in hardstyle, production wise. Raw Hardstyle is in fact a subgenre, but only in contrast to euphoric hardstyle. There is a clear difference between the two (clean kicks vs. more distorted kicks, melodies and climaxes vs. screeches and anticlimaxes for example) Euphoric same as above Big Room/Mainstream Hardstyle is not a subgenre, just euphoric hardstyle exploring other genres outside of hardstyle New Raw hardstyle / rawstyle is just Raw hardstyle. who are you kidding with this """""Subgenre""""". Production became more evolved and producers got more skilled. That's it, no reason to give this a dedicated subgenre, please. Melodic raw/Rawphoric is the most dumb name to give hardstyle tracks. It's basically melodic tracks with somewhat a rougher kick. So just hardstyle. Xtra raw is just raw hardstyle but made by new names/talents if you like. Not a specific subgenre Experimental Rawstyle. pleeeeeeaasse whats with all the subgenres. It's just producers thinking outside of the box for a few tracks, not a complete different subgenre. IMO there are just two subgenres within hardstyle: Euphoric and Raw
@CYC_JP5 жыл бұрын
Classic hardstyle, nustyle, euphoric etc. are definitely sub-genres now since they all sound different. It is not new to classify music by time period and the sound. If you listen to classical music you know even under classical music there are sub-genres such as 'early', 'classical', 'romantic', 'baroque', 'contemporary', 'modernism' etc, even under each sub-genre you can have other sub-genres eg. abstraction is a sub-genre under contemporary.

Bigroom + hardstyle = hardhouse nowadays Jumpstyle and tekstyle find their roots closer to hardcore than hardstyle No mentions of Psystyle nor Dubstyle Freestyle is legit not a style it's just a term used for stages where dj's can play whatever they want usually more festival aimed jumpstyle, tekstyle, hardstyle and a lil hardcore and frenchcore or house here and there

Yeah. Imagine being such a clown that you spend hours making a unique kick, then carefully construct a melody with powerful chords and a smooth flow to suit the feel of your song, layer your synths so they sound rich and full, mix your drop to perfection, arrange your track with buildups, breaks etc. so it keeps listeners hooked, and spice it up with some impressive sound design skills on the screeches for a mid intro to get people moving before the melody kicks in. REAL hardstyle is made by distorting a 909 once and looping it at 145 bpm until you hit the 6 minute mark. I miss when hardstyle had EFFORT in it and wasn't this commercial shit we have today. Smh my head.
