funny how everyone whines about modern music sucking. I am sure that's what the middle aged people said about rock n'roll back in the day too and then told their kids to listen to Brahms or some local folk music instead. Everyone is convinced that the music of their generation is the best. Or they romanticize the past. Today it's easy to pick the greatest records of the 60s, 70s or 80s,but I am sure if you have lived during those times and would stop seeing your youth with rose tinted glasses you would realize that there has been as much shit as today. The difference is that the shit wasn't playing non-stop on every radio station. But hey, that's the great thing in the 2010s: you don't have to listen to the radio. Whoever bases their music collection on what is in the charts or on the radio is guilty themself. Move your fingers and search for some underrated contemporary music that's good on the web, I am sure if you dig around long enough, you'll find something.

ElClubGTAV Yes, and i understand that the advancement of technology is the cause, but modern music totally sucks dick, (atleast the most popular music) im sure there good music being made, that's just not popular, so nobody hears it
@MysteriousAsteria
@MysteriousAsteria 10 жыл бұрын
It still exists. As I have said, you just have to dig around to find it. I don't get why good music must be popular or the other way round. I personally could care less if my fav music is either popular or good, I just listen to whatever I like. As I mentioned, if you base your music finds entirely on what is played on the radio the charts then you do something wrong anyway. Pop charts were never a good representation of what is possible in the music scene. And the argument "it sucks nowadays because new technology" is incorrect as well. There was a time people too said "modern rock sucks, because of e-guitars" or "pop is full of synths nowadays, which sucks, because synths make it easy". Whenever there is a new technology, instrument or generation of musicians people yell "it was so much better when xyz didn't exist". The argument made shouldn't be "it sucks, because they use synths/computers/software", but rather "it sucks because it is cheaply made". You can create amazing music with any medium. Just look at those talentless youtubers making "music" with computer software. They fail not because of the tools they use, but because they lack the skills to make decent music. Yet there are artists out there creating amazing things with the same tools.
@MysteriousAsteria
@MysteriousAsteria 10 жыл бұрын
ElClubGTAV Wasn't that an issue in pop music ever since its inception? Do you believe all the pop musicians of the last 50 years composed and wrote their own music? And I remember a few playback fiascos at shows such as top of the pops dating back to the 80s (and maybe even earlier). What you describe isn't really an issue of the 21st century. Pop music always has been like this. You may not find these problems in less popular forms of music, which rarely get playtime and where bands actually have to put a lot of effort and blood into their work (and yet most of them nowadays can't even live from their music). "(that's why many guys look like fags and girls like slut" < you have never heard of 70s glam rock? Now I personally don't give a shit how a musician looks like (and I like men who are brave enough to play with gender roles. It takes some spirit to wear tight leather trousers and make up) as the music is in the end much more important. However, posing and image have always been important in music, especially in Rock. Dressing outragous and pissing off your parents was desirable. In fact I would even say that men and women aren't really as extreme as they used to, in a kind of "make a statement" sense. Now dressing provocatively or like a rocker is just trendy and fashionable and has no longer a deeper meaning. But I am sure there are still bands in the underground keeping the spirit alive. You just have to turn off that damn radio and start to look for the real pearls.

@MysteriousAsteria
@MysteriousAsteria 10 жыл бұрын
still doesn’t disprove my point. There will always be younger people who like older music as well as the people who lived in that era. Though for some reason every 12 year old on youtube is claiming to be so super retro and cool for loving old music and for hating new music. It might also be a hipster thing… Still, the point is that there is good music, even today. You just have to look for it and dig a bit deeper. If it isn’t your cup of tea and you prefer only past releases, so be it. But I am annoyed by stupid hispters trying to pose as better music lovers by hating on contemporary music.

I don't understand when they say music is dying. The good thing about music is that we can always hear music that we choose to from the past if we want..this means there will always be a greater pool of different music as time passes. Doesnt mean i cant listen to an old song if i am in 2013.if u want to hear a similar styled music u can just do a short search for it -_-

In the middle ages, medieval poets and composers basically set different melodies [and later harmonies] to the same religious and secular texts. Now, pop stars set the same melodies and harmonies to different lyrics.

People tend to think that when Bill Haley and the Comets did "Rock Around the Clock" everything changed overnight. Patti Page and Perry Como before, nothing but rock and roll after. They overlook the fact that the song that finally unseated "Rock Around the Clock" from the #1 spot on the charts was "Yellow Rose of Texas". By Mitch Miller.

I felt like the soul of music started falling apart with the beginning of the 80's. The artists were more in it for the fame than for the actual art itself. I'm not saying that artist weren't doing that before, but it feels like the 80's was the "tipping point" Also, it feels like this was the time when producers started compromising melody and rhythm in various parts of the song. If it wasn't the guitar, it was the singer's melody. By the 90's the most compromised instrument were the drums. Everyone and their mom thought they can make a hit by playing the same cheap drum beats. There was no change, fewer moments to sync with the other musicians. All in all it became lackluster. Right now, I feel like the quality of music is on the rise. There really is nowhere but up.

Come on people, today's music are just as good as the oldies. It's justs the change of music style that made people think "WTF is this shit?". Back at the oldies, they use instruments like Piano, Saxophone, Trumpet, etc. But, as the years go by, they use some type of DJ stuff to make the music better, and i like that. We can't just stay in oldies style forever, we need a change of style, y'know

It has never really gone downhill. Of course, people who has had a lot of noise centered among them (Bieber) has garnered a lot of attention, but only the most notable (often the best) get remembered at all. That's why a lot of things from earlier times is forgotten (there have been a lot of pretty boys in music before Bieber - he's only the most recent). If you want music from before today that's really annoying, just search "Falalalan", a Spanish folk song from medieval times.

What I like about this video, is that it really takes not only the best songs from each year, but songs that were huge hits. The songs on this list genuinely represented each year of music pretty accurately as far as what was popular. It's hard to say where we went wrong or if we did. Personally....I think the late 90s had the best music. It all depends on when you were born, it seems. I'm still in my 20s, so of course I still enjoy new music. I hope it will always be that way for me.

The industry was destroyed when corporations realized it's all about image, find someone with a sexy look, give them a team of song writers, choreographers, background dancers, stylist, makeup artist and an entire advertising campaign and they could make millions. it's become a mathematical equation instead of an art. There is good music out there but it's buried under the piles of boy bands and disney starlets.

I've got a better comment (NOT intended to go against yours): What do you mean you were born in the wrong generation? You have all the good music in this generation! You don't have to wait for it to come on the radio like you did when it was on the charts, it's as easy as typing practically any given song you want to listen to in a search bar! Instead of shouting from the rooftop of your home "Lil Wayne raps like he's lazy and on drugs!" type a musician that is real according to your standards!

*Spectating* As the years go by, more potential from the music slowly goes away, taking out meaning of songs letter by letter, word by word, sentence by sentence verse by verse, and soon, song by song. Replacing it with violence, love, and most importantly, Sex. (Dont believe me? Look in lyrics of recent songs.) The music industry is what's giving us what we want, and we need to "want" differently. Otherwise, Sex and love will become a need in songs in order to make money to make music. Using figurative language to hide sexual things in songs (ex. Anaconda (Nikki Minaj) Drop that "kitty" down low (Ty Dollars $ign) and much more, is a common practice to trick parents into thinking its an ok song, and to make it legal to put on most radio stations. Some songs flat out use remarks that point to Sex all the time. Normal? In 2015, but not 20 years ago.

If you don't like today's music, don't listen to it and search for different music! It's obvious. I just don't get why people are so lazy and assume that the music you hear on the radio is the only music there is. And if you think you're not lazy freaking act like it. Have a nice day :) ***** Jordan Schutten

A lot of people talk about when did music go wrong and i honestly don't think nothing went wrong with it. It adapted along with our taste. It kept us entertained. It made an era what it was meant to be. The music fits it's time. There is no where did it go wrong. It's where do you belong when it comes to the music.

+Timothy Lee Tefft not exactly. you got the label system which was in place since the first record player. they act as filter limiting what choices people have. also they make everything like top hit so over time your choices become less. then you disrupted music moment which when everyone it sick and tired and going to underground in mass. like how grunge took glam metal. problem is that today teen are lazier than ever only want to party, they want music but do not really want to listen it because there to busy dancing and talking. all they care if that can dance to it. in fact they do not want to hear new music. it like they are anti music. also disco was there same thing.

I think maybe around the mid-90s is when music started going downhill. There were of course many bad songs before then, and many good songs after, but that's when bad music starting becoming popular among the majority of people. Other than the occasional good or catchy tune. And the bands continuing from before that time.

Because of fast online download and incredible amount of storage that offered MP3 players, artists had to quickly change from long lasting quality to short term quantity. It was mostly to remain competitive and a money machine, but it also prevented the music industry from dying. I stopped following hits on the radio, but, also thanks to internet, I easily manage to find a hell lot of gems in the constantly growing diversity, year after year.

And don't forget that, nowadays, anyone can create music that suits their style, old or new. I can state the VOCALOID community, piano dubstep or dubstep violin and oldies fashioned covers of actual hits as examples.
