I started this bog garden in April of 2018. I thought it would be fun to show you guys a consolidated video of the growth, from build to its first year and a half of growth. The garden is made in a Bradley Sink lined with pond liner, has a PVC lattice with a standpipe for watering and the substrate is 50/50 sand and peat. Its planted with a huge range of Sarracenia, Sundews, Venus Fly traps, orchids, and other flowering partner plants. Its capped with live sphagnum moss and is overwintered in place using burlap and pine litter. Its watered with collected rain water and so far has been an absolute success!

Is that a Sarracenia Purpurea v. Venosa at 4:40? I have one that I brought inside for the winter as I wasn’t able to make a big garden this year and it actually flowered around Christmas 😲! My Drosera Spatulata is flowering as well right now. Trying to find a Sarracenia Purpurea v. Purpurea to add to my collection as they can get a LOT more purple and can survive very low temps. They can range into the Northern Territories of Canada.

@pluralsingularity8556
@pluralsingularity8556 4 жыл бұрын
Plantaholic It is my understanding that the Venosa subspecies has a rough, kinda hairy/fuzzy outer pitcher whereas the Purpurea subspecies is more of a smooth, waxy outer pitcher. Either way, it is one of my favorite “ground-hugging” sarracenias.

@@Plantaholic Generally, it is not wise to have rhizomes soaking wet for extended periods of time, although there are a few exceptions. I bottom water mine like Plantaholic, but have overflows a couple of inches above the bottom to keep the water from remaining too deep if I over-water. The disadvantage is that I need to water every 2 or 3 days during the hot and dry season. I have not put in drip irrigation, since even RO water is too expensive to waste when a person has thousands of plants.
