Ok it might be a silly question but I’ve looked and tried to research in my area how to measure and /or find out what the TDS is in my water. I have the standard aquarium test kit, but is there a TDS kit? Or do you know what govt office would have this information? I feel like it can’t be this difficult and there’s an obvious answer I’ve overlooked ? I’m in NYC I believe it’s “soft water” and after moving up and down the east coast is definitely the best tasting water right out of the tap. Lol.

Is that a Sarracenia Purpurea v. Venosa at 4:40? I have one that I brought inside for the winter as I wasn’t able to make a big garden this year and it actually flowered around Christmas 😲! My Drosera Spatulata is flowering as well right now. Trying to find a Sarracenia Purpurea v. Purpurea to add to my collection as they can get a LOT more purple and can survive very low temps. They can range into the Northern Territories of Canada.
@Plantaholic4 жыл бұрын
it was purchased as just purpurea, but hasn't gotten really richly red yet
@pluralsingularity85564 жыл бұрын
Plantaholic It is my understanding that the Venosa subspecies has a rough, kinda hairy/fuzzy outer pitcher whereas the Purpurea subspecies is more of a smooth, waxy outer pitcher. Either way, it is one of my favorite “ground-hugging” sarracenias.

I’m starting a bog garden and am wondering how much water should be present all of the time. Should I be able to feel it being very boggy and wet at the surface?.
@Plantaholic4 жыл бұрын
I plant live mosses in the surface- if they look dry, it needs more water. When i water i saturate it completely
@buggsy53 жыл бұрын
@@Plantaholic Generally, it is not wise to have rhizomes soaking wet for extended periods of time, although there are a few exceptions. I bottom water mine like Plantaholic, but have overflows a couple of inches above the bottom to keep the water from remaining too deep if I over-water. The disadvantage is that I need to water every 2 or 3 days during the hot and dry season. I have not put in drip irrigation, since even RO water is too expensive to waste when a person has thousands of plants.
@benwil60484 жыл бұрын
That is so awesome, I don’t know about the other ones but have you tried removing the flower from the Venus flytrap to have it grow more? Or are they seeding as well?

My township has some ordinances about collecting rain water. It’s kinda ridiculous in my opinion.
@buggsy53 жыл бұрын
They may be concerned about all the toxic molds, algae and bacteria that can grown in rain water barrels. If you could demonstrate to the township that the water is for plants only, you might be able to get a waiver.
