I wait a video on pikachu mascot from years... However there are a error, the inflatable costumes (at least the mascots) aren't pressurized and sealed like a rubber balloon or a pool toy, and not trap you inside without you can breath or get out (however you can't do that in public for character reasons...). For example a waterball it's much more like your description. And there are no sweaty and horrible like you tell... I mean it's an hard work but there are keep inflated by a quite large fan, that keep the pressure and also continue to add fresh air. A japanese maker few days (or weeks) ago also made a special mascot that is half transparent glass clean to show to the clients of this tecnhology work, and see how it made inside, you can find it easly here on YT if you serarch "kigurumix" profile.

Poliwhirl was marketed as heck during the first generation of Pokémon, which is likely why that got a mascot costume alongside Pikachu. I think the reason for the mass marketing has something to do with its pre-evolved form, Poliwag, happening to be series creator Satoshi Tajiri's favorite Pokémon.

Which Pokemon would become the most marketed ones seemed to be kind of up in the air for the first couple years. I remember one of the first places Pokemon started showing up here in the U.S. was as a promotional for Kentucky Fried Chicken. They offered four plushies you could buy at the restaurant. Which ones? Seel, Dratini, Vulpix and Zubat. I know, right. The logical lineup would have been, like, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Pikachu. Or at least one of the more common ones they'd get to know well like Pidgey or Ratata. Instead, it was the most random assortment.

The reason Pikachu was paired with Poliwhirl at first, I imagine, was because Poliwhirl was one of the pokemon that was also in the running for mascot in the franchise's earliest days (is still kind of was in the Pokemon Adventures manga where Red's starter was a Poliwag instead of the Pikachu!)

I love the 2010 costume the most, it's just the right proportions and looks the most like Pikachu to me. The squishy inflatable newest one is nice too. I've been a Pokémon fan since childhood, so I'm thrilled that you made this! I'd love to see a sequel where you cover the evolution of various other Pokémon costumes, like the starters and Eevee!

I mean I remember the Pikachu costume from that super smash brothers or commercial from the 1990s but I’m still really anxious to find out lost super smash brothers live stream because it uses that Pikachu costume from the commercial and it was filmed in Las Vegas Nevada and it was the first ever lifestream before KZbin even existed it was streamed via real player but is still lost media and it’s probably gone forever but I hope one day it will get resurface only time will tell

5:13 - Funny thing is, I (and quite a few others) actually _do_ know! Simply put, it's because even though Pikachu is the series mascot, Poliwhirl has been stated to be the favorite Pokemon of none other than Satoshi Tajiri, the very man behind the entire franchise! The only reason they stopped using Poliwhirl as much in the marketing is because more popular Water Types began to surface (no pun intended) and get used instead, particularly Piplup (because who doesn't love a cute little penguin?). Nowadays the only place you're likely to see Poliwhirl featured somewhat prominently is on the boxes of Pokemon gummy snacks, where its shape is used for the blue raspberry flavor gummy.

9:30 you should do a video on the miscellaneous assortment of characters that got one-off obscure costumes made of them since there wouldn't be enough to make a full video on them. Although, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon seemed to have a lot of commercials, events and promos with their characters.

One thing Dan didn't mention is that Pikachu mascot's have a lot of variety in tail! Some have regular blunt tails, others have rounded heart like tails. In the games this is to distinguish between male and female Pikachu!

A slight correction! I was a mascot for a while, and the inflatable ones are actually way, way cooler to wear! Harder to move in, but it’s significantly better for the performer because there’s a ton of air flow.
