I once read a "Star Trek the Next Generation" novel (I don't remember the name of it.) that had some dialogue that went something like this: after having lost a minor battle, Riker says to his sergeant: "Winning isn't everything.". His sergeant replied, "But losing isn't anything. I heard that a twentieth century philosopher named Charlie Brown came up with that.". Riker said, "This Charlie Brown must have been a very wise person.". The sergeant said, "I suspect he was."

I'd like to think, if the series were to ever end, Charlie Brown would marry the little red haired girl, become a successful Baseball Coach, and have his kids interacting with snoopys pups in their own adventures.

That would be nice. It would make Charlie Brown happy. But I don't think that Schultz would've wanted it that way.

I always love how the Peanuts Movie’s animation style (and similar movies) stays accurate to the 2D animation style; it’s like instead of making a model and moving it, they take 2D drawings and translate them into 3D, including cheated angles, disproportionate parts, and smears, making the characters look accurate.

When I worked at the hospital near his home, he funded a support group for children who had significant loss. It was called “Good Grief” When he came in for open heart surgery, he drew a cartoon on a wall showing Snoopy using an incentive spirometer, also known as a Triflo that encourages deep breathing to prevent pneumonia. A truly gracious Christian man who used his melancholy to help others express their feelings.

I always felt the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show was vastly underrated and was taken from us before its time. Most of the stories were based on full week or even longer story arcs you'd only otherwise see in big comic strip collection books. I also loved those non-holiday specific specials that you just don't see anymore. The holiday ones are great and all, but I just love these animated versions of comic strip style stories. Garfield did take better to the Saturday Morning Cartoon medium, but only because that property didn't have the same creative control Peanuts did. I'd go as far to say that Mark Evainer was the one that really tapped the fat cat's potential.

Some tidbits & corrections: *A "friend" named Charlie Brown* As in, Schulz's alter-ego. *A sharply-dressed bald boy* Charlie Brown is not bald. Like Schulz himself, Charlie Brown is lightly blond with very thin hair. *Numerous boys with the name Charlie Brown* Technically, all iterations of Charlie Brown are the same character. *Short children with large round heads* Aka the "Round-Headed Kid"/"Blockhead" look. *He suggested calling it Charlie Brown & Friends* Hence why the comic strip later became _Peanuts ft. Good Old Charlie Brown_ years later & the '80s TV series was instead named _The Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show_ and why a lot of the specials were themselves titled _[Insert Plot Thread Here], Charlie Brown_ rather than the _Peanuts_ brand name. *Lucy represented his own sarcastic & fussy side* She was also inspired by his first wife Joyce's nagging, particularly whenever Lucy's seen calling out Charlie Brown's faults, complete with video projector slides. *Linus, his spiritual side* He was also based on a philosophical friend with separation anxiety issues (thus, the term "security blanket" being based upon the one Linus carries). *Hence why Charlie Brown never recieved a valentine* Excluding rare exceptions in the TV specials/the '80s _The Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show_ TV series/Internet webisodes, of course. *Tanked in his plight to attract the Little Red-Haired Girl* She was given the name Heather in _It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown_ (although Schulz's had since said afterward that this was non-canonical); She was also based on a co-worker from one of Schulz's first jobs (outside of drawing "that comic strip with Charlie Brown & friends in it") whom Schulz wanted to ask out, but never had the gumption to actually do so. *Kick a football out of Lucy's hands* Charlie Brown turning invisible thanks to Snoopy's accidental magic in _It's Magic, Charlie Brown_ as one singular exception. *Bill Melendez* Else known as the animated "voice" of Snoopy & Woodstock!

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" will always be my all time favorite as it introduced me to the music of Vince Guaraldi and "Linus and Lucy"(the one everyone THINKS is "The Charlie Brown theme"), specifically, as it inspired me to learn to play the piano. 45 years later, and I've been a successful professional pianist for 33 years. I used to live in California, and was a frequent visitor to "Knott's Berry Farm". In 1983, a section of the theme park was opened, called "Camp Snoopy", which is a woodsy area featuring Charles Shultz creations. I loved "Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown" and its "Memorial Day" epilogue special. I've seen most of the specials and the movies but those 2 were ones I constantly watched whenever they were on. I kinda liked the fact that it only featured Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Snoopy and Woodstock going to France on a student exchange trip. I mean yeah I love the whole gang, but I always thought these kids were more interesting, even in the comics. Moments like Marcie speaking french, Charlie Brown failing to buy that french bread, there were ADULTS present throughout, Snoopy driving that blue Citroen 2CV car, the "house of the bad neighbor" and their French hosts, Linus talking about D-Day when they stayed close to Omaha beach. Still the best Peanuts adventure IMO.

As me and my brothers were born and grew up we’ve also grew to love the Gang and continue our own traditions of watching the holiday themed specials and the rest around what we think is the appropriate times. We are hoping to continue this tradition with one of my brother’s kids when he and his wife have them and also mine and my other brother’s kids (if we both ever get around to marriage first).

Another excellent job! Love the title on this one. The Christmas special's maybe tied with the Halloween one. Linus's speech always gets to me. But I love the partially psychedelic Snoopy vs. Red Baron sequence in the latter the most. Along with that, I always cherish the Snoopy/Red Baron book I got as a kid c. 1970, with each page in different colors. As far as the comic, there are a lot of longer-form stories from the '60s and '70s that I enjoy, but I'm really fond of the strips on the last year or so of the series where Re-Run is drawing "underground comics".

I was four when I began obsessing over the paperback "Peanuts" books. I learned to read with them and told myself bedtime stories--"The Peanuts and Baby Monster," as my mother reported. I vividly recall one strip in which Linus emerges, stage right, in vertically striped, thigh-length shorts. He begins asking boastfully how everyone likes his "clam diggers." I would do almost anything to lay my eyes on that one once more, but it isn't in the complete compilations. Heart is breaking over here--

The one thing I don’t think Shultz realized is that when you grow up with something, obsess over is in its entirety, like so many people do, you get a pretty good idea of how to do that thing the same way the original did. It’s why the most successful reboots are always made by fans for fans.

Perhaps this has been mentioned before, but just in case; in Southern California, about a 20-to-30-minute drive north of Disneyland, there is an amusement park called "Knott's Berry Farm," (which is actually older than Disneyland.) Within this park is a sub-divided "land" called "Camp Snoopy" which is a Peanuts themed area of Knott's Berry Farm dedicated to rides for children and, of course, features live, costumed characters of the Peanuts gang. "Camp Snoopy" has been a part of Knott's Berry Farm since (at least) the 1980s and is still a central and beloved aspect of the park.

Peanuts is a comic strip and cartoon series which always had something discomforting about it. Namely, the visual absence of grownups. Actually, adults, older children and babies were nowhere to be seen. This often left me with an impression that children of a certain age and size were left to fend for themselves in some suburban Lord of the Flies scenario. In other words, kids trapped in a crapsack world, with good ol' Charlie Brown its main spokesman.

The adults were absent simply because they would bump their heads on the panels.

27:32, I mean technically he did once in the animated special He's Magic Charlie Brown but he was invisible when it happened so...yeah, probably doesn't count.

I do not see why Lucy thought Snoopy was a stupid beagle by choosing to be the new manager. That made her upset about it during over and over again.

I’m a Peanuts fan since about 1979. I haven’t been religious since about 1992. Yet, in CB Christmas, from Linus’ request “Lights, please” to the end I’m an emotional wreck. How do I reconcile my lack of religiosity with the gospel of Luke? I think it completely works as a story about Charlie Brown’s search for meaning and connection. He finds it because he gives compassion to another living being (the tree as symbol). Then everyone else figures it out. I’m moved to tears writing this. Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown.

I am such a Peanuts fan! I will always have a special place in my heart for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and I used to love watching "The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show" as a kid. I think I can still sing most of the theme song. 😆I, also, grew up reading the comic strip and remember vividly when Charles M. Schulz's last comic was released. One Charlie Brown special that very few people mention but, was one of my all-time favorites as a kid is "Why, Charlie Brown, Why?" about Linus becoming friends with a little girl with leukemia. ❤️ And this is just a bonus interesting fact that you may or may not already aware of...but, the "Red Baron" that Snoopy's "WWI Flying Ace" is always dogfighting with is not a fictional character invented by Schulz. The Red Baron was a real-life extremely skilled German fighter pilot during WWI. He is still considered one of the most famous flying aces of all time (and, therefore, an appropriate nemesis for Snoopy's WWI fantasies).

Dave! You certainly did your homework on this one. Extremely well done, with a ton of info I never knew. But Lucy IS my sister. One of my favorite strips from the 1950’s features the kids playing Croquet. Charlie Brown is about to make a shot and says “I’ve always considered myself to be the Ben Hogan of Croquet”. Linus replies, “I guess we all kid ourselves one way or another.” For those who don’t know, Ben Hogan was a champion golfer.

Watching and reading the whole Peanuts produced by Charles Schulz during his lifetime would be enough to live without the need to see the new materials.
