@carlinemoon24843 жыл бұрын
The first Toby Maguire "Spider-Man" movie actually has a basis in the comics for him semi having organic webbing. In the comics there was a storyline where Spider-Man was cloned. Of the three clones made of him one was identical to his normal self, and later went onto (for a short time) replace Peter Parker when they erroneously believed that Peter was the clone and Ben Reilly was the real Peter. His other two clones had defects in the genetic material, with one able to produce an acid from his skin that burned his victims, and took on the name of "Kaine". The third clone actually WAS able to create organic webbing from his hands, but did not become as involved as the former two clones in the comics. All three were created by the Jackal, though I cannot remember who was using that alias at the time.
@xxarcangelxx1433 жыл бұрын
Talking about spider-cide? The 3rd clone right?
@mikell50873 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but the organic webbing idea predates the 90's comic book Clone Saga. The idea originated with James Cameron in the Spidey movie treatment that he created for Caralco films and later Cannon films. Sam Raimi and Sony later inherited the movie rights and kept the organic webbing from the original movie treatment.

Comic accurate or not, I actually prefer him having organic webbing. 1) what’s the point of “spider powers” if you can’t web? But 2) Mechanical webbing seems crazy, because you couldn’t get very far without running out of fluid. Those bracelets couldn’t hold more than a few ounces. A few shots…and then your falling to your death! So the natural webbing makes a lot more sense.

It’s a real credit to Jack Kirby that his original 1962 cover doesn’t look very far off from later Spider-Man comics of the 80’s and 90’s.
@wtk60693 жыл бұрын
Kirby will always be the King, but in this case he was just being faithful to what Steve Ditko had already designed and used in the issue. Stan Lee, who was the editor and dialogue writer, loved the story Ditko had created, but he didn't think the cover was powerful enough, so he had Kirby draw another cover for the issue at the last minute. Ditko's original cover has been reprinted several times in subsequent years. The published one has become iconic, but I'd say the two covers are actually close to the same quality, except Ditko's original didn't give the reader a clear view of the costume. I think that was the difference, given Spidey was a brand new character.

The Ultimate Spider-Man is the most underrated Spider-Man of all time, for me he’ll always be the best Spider-Man incarnation. He’s absolutely hilarious, and for one of the only times ever he’s actually insanely powerful and doesn’t constantly act like a kid. Like this version of Spider-Man is actually stronger than the Hulk and Thor having killed all the Avengers, and X-men as well as a few others as Wolf Spider. And it also showed how powerful the sinister six actually is, with Rhino going head to head with The Hulk and gaining an upper hand against him as well as Goblin going on a rampage and killing everybody when Spider-Man quits. It just showed just how powerful Spider-Man really is, even comics Spider-Man can’t beat the Hulk without power ups.

I think the reason why Spiderman is so popular *is* his accessibility. Firstly, he's young, not some billionaire with too much free time on his hands. He has school/college, he has to get good grades, support himself financially, etc. There is a weight to being Spiderman for him because it takes up *so* much of his time, as well as affects his personal relationships very intimately, which is how it would be for most of us. We couldn't balance the double life of being ourselves plus Spiderman, so when we see him struggle to, we empathize with that experience. Also, his powers are notably simplistic and not too difficult for us to imagine having. When you see superheroes like Ironman, we often think to ourselves, "How on earth does he control that tech??" with it answered simply, "He's a genius," so it creates this distance between us and the character. With Spiderman, however, there's very little tech (albeit, a little more with the most recent iteration, which wound up going back to its roots anyway) and what he does seems pretty doable. If we had spider powers, we'd be able to walk on walls, have super strength, and potentially have web-shooters (natural, if in the Tobey Maguire-verse). To imagine flying through New York City on some webs is a dream many of us have when sitting in gridlock, so making it seem doable gives us a fantasy we can not only imagine ourselves in, but we want to keep imagining. Sometimes, a good superhero story is one that you just don't want to leave.

If Stan Lee was alive I want to thank him personally for everything, if hadn't been for him we wouldn't have gotten spiderman and the other amazing superheroes in our childhoods. God bless your soul stan!

The CG silver Spidey from the end credits of Muppet Babies is worth a mention.
