The GameCube era was pretty much OBSESSED with Luigi’s Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine. The Wii era toned it down a bit thanks to Super Mario Galaxy. But Sunshine will always find it’s time to SHINE!

Makes sense why the GameCube/early DS spinoffs would reference Sunshine, being that it was the most recent original 3D Mario platformer. And then Galaxy came along and spinoffs began referencing it; featuring Galaxy-themed courses/characters like Rosalina in Mario Kart 7 or Luma in Mario Tennis Open.

Late ds and early wii liked galaxy since it was new Late wii and early 3ds referenced galaxy 2 Wii u never really had a full 3d game Switch era references odyssye since its currently new

Though I never spotted a lot of Galaxy 2 references since it does take a lot from Galaxy 1 despite doing a bunch of its own things like Yoshi, the World Map, the Comet Medals, and characters like Lubba. Now it's only a matter of time before the Bowser's Fury references start popping up...

The gamecube is the weirdest of the bunch... because at that time i believe nintendo was actually competing ageinst xbox and playstation. Where now they just dont care and do their own thing (which is extremely successful and impressive. Making both consoles and games) Edit: i would love a sunshine sequel.
