It is very possible to make a great open world Superman video game. It's just that game development companies are too worried that Superman's abilities will make the game too boring or repetitive for players. I think the die hard Superman fans will go and buy the game regardless. They just want to experience being Superman, with a decent gameplay that does justice to how the hero is seen in movies and comics. Personally I think they should make a Superman video game following the story of Man of Steel; after the world has seen what Superman is capable of and his weakness to Kryptonite. Some key bosses I would like in the first game include: Metallo, Bizzaro, Deathstroke, Firefly, Non, Parasite, Lex Luthor, which would be more based on Earth. A sequel of this game can then lead to more powerful villains such as: Brainiac, Doomsday, Mongol, Darkseid etc.. allowing Superman to travel outside of Earth and to other parts of Space. Gameplay should include progressing through the main story line, with side quests such as rescue missions and/or missions related to crime. They can add elements of the Daily Planet reporting and investigation missions, as well as battling Lexcorp drone and bots that are programmed to take down Superman as the world and authorities think of him as a threat. Additional side missions such as helping Martha with chores around the farm in Smallville, or taking Lois out would also add a more human element to the game. Furthermore they can add racing challenges and include cameos of famous DC characters. The options are endless. I would also incorporate Metahumans who can prove to be dangerous adversaries against Superman and would make the gameplay a little more interesting and challenging for Superman. The backstory can be that these meta humans got their abilities after the meteor shower when Kal El first arrived on Earth. Other powerful enemies can also have escaped out of the Phantom Zone when Superman defeats Zod. Finally more advanced technologies can be introduced that can prove to be a danger to Superman as well as the concept of weapons created by Kryptonite. All of these points will make the game more challenging. We can give Superman a health bar, he is powerful, but does have weaknesses Finally the map needs be huge for obvious reasons. This is probably the biggest challenge for developers as Superman can practically go anywhere on Earth as well as outside of it, so limiting his mobility is something that will just not feel right... One of the largest world maps I have seen in open world games is in Just Cause 3. I would say 4 times larger than that can easily make locations such as Metropolis, Smallville, Central City, Gotham City, Nanda Parbat, Fortress of Solitude, and other locations such as plains, tropical islands, deserts, mountains etc... Finally flight mechanics and gameplay controls should allow the player to feel like they can do anything Superman can. Speed should be controlled with a boost concept that can help Superman accelerate at great speeds in practically seconds. Fighting controls should also include locking on to enemies and Superman should be able to control his attacks toggling Heavy attacks and light attacks. For example. Superman should not use heavy attacks when fighting criminals or enemies that are humans. If he does, then there should be consequences such as lowering in XP, or overall health of the City, which will have adverse effects on Superman's reputation and or story line. Bottom line, its difficult but not impossible. I hope to see something soon!

Why is it so necessary for media to portray Superman's powers in such a god-like manner? Why not to show how he struggles mentally and *physically* but doesn't give up, doesn't show his weaknesses to his enemies, and that's why they, and people in general think that Superman is omnipotent, but in reality it is strength of his character, clever use of powers and intellect which actually saves the day, and not just *yellow sun is everything* I'l say, make a game in Yakuza style but with abilty to fly, that would be more enough.

The thing with Superman is, it depends on how good the writers are. There are some great Superman comics where he has to try to help people dealing with suicide and other such problems that he can't just punch away. These comics show his intellect and strength of character without changing the fact that he is still nearly invincible. Those are the best ones. Because taking away Superman's powers is not the smart way of doing it. Because we honestly have an overabundance of smart characters at every power level. Just one example is Doctor Who. The Doctor's only power is intelligence and reincarnation. That's it. And he is canonically referred to many times as a fearsome god-like entity that even a race of genocidal time traveling machines pause in fear when they know The Doctor is coming. But what we don't have in abundance is characters like Superman - physically powerful good people who still need to handle real problems in smart ways despite not being exceptionally smart themselves. There are comedies where we have such omni-potent characters, but the fact that they are comedies means they won't usually touch on those sensitive subjects. An example of a decent implementation of this is Wonder Woman 2017. WW is (depending on who you ask) as strong or even stronger than Superman. But even if she punched all the Nazis, it wouldn't fix the world. The world wouldn't learn. Also, she can't just punch sexism away. But in the end they made a really good movie (depending on who you ask), where her powers are never diminished, but instead it just helps her TRY to solve these problems. Because her mission in the movie is to show that men and women can work together and live in peace. She behaves humane and human and only punches when words fail. TLDR : Weakening Superman makes things worse. Giving Superman problems he can't just punch away will work.

@@krishnansubramoni7801 my point was not about stripping his powers, but about reducing them to more consistent and more understandable level. Why not to show that using superpowers takes an effort? Why not to show that being Superman is a hard work? to restraining your powers in the normal life, but keep improving yourself as a figher when a threat becomes even bigger, and still remain as a kind hearted man who cares, The ability to combine these qualities itself would show far better what Superman is all about. I know about Superman helping people with thier issues and problems and not just punching everythiing(every heroic main character's like that), I'm all for that, but what I'm saying, is that by adding more physical challenges, and consciences ot it, you would only enrich Superman, make battles more intersting, give yourself a more freedom in creating conflicts and adversaries for him, while not depriving anything of real substance. TLDR: Make Superman smarter both in and out of fights, leave all his powers, but make that they're just a tool and not a solution to every fight.

@@user-ManofStyle1 Actually, Superman knows marcial arts if in some cases someone's with his same strength like another Kryptonian or God would hurt him in true damage bypassing his invunerability, there are several things that can actually put Superman in disavantage like magic characters like Black Adam, or the smartest ones that can use kryptonite like luthor, Superman isn't dumb... He's a son of a Kryptonian scientist, a civilization millions years advance but greedy and that's what lead them to destruction of the planet. So he knows how to fight just give him the right oppenent, or make a game based on the Smallville series where there's a evolution from Clark to Superman.

There is a way they could.make a.superman game work. Have it almost set like Smallville where you gradually progress and unlock powers bit by bit. Could be a.series of games. The 1st being mostly that with a sequel work like the Arkham games in terms of combat. Also have it so Superman can gradually get damage and a way to heal would he to have overexposure to the sun (keeping it within the canon) As others have entitled the villains could be metahumans and even other villians within the DC universe such as Darkseid and Zod. Could even introduce a whole investigative part of it where you play as Clark and Lois (a bit like the Spider-man MJ and Mipes segments) where's it's less about combat and more about avoiding detection and maybe evidence taking, reporting and photos comes to mind.
