The problem is the walkers bodies are rotting, because the brain is only keeping the bare minimum functions going, so unless they are semi fresh or in a good situation they just won't have the energy to do much. The bare minimum will always be to walk towards a sound, something that's moving or bright, or an extremely pungent smell. I

I don't get why some almost skeletal walkers can still move, I think muscles and nerves should remain intact and functional for walkers to be anatomically accurate. All the rest can rot, but that two things should be healthy and functional, like an insect with a cordyceps infection: he's zombified, but key parts for moving remain fully functional.

@@joshuamckinney7965 Don't take me wrong, I love the series. But here the zombification isn't some kind of "magic ritual", it's stated as a virus. So the corpses don't move by some sort of "magical energy" but by their own limbs which should at least be somewhat in half-decent condition to move, not rotten to the bones. Remember this is caused by something like a parasite, a live one, not some sort of voodoo wizard. It reactivates the spinal bulb so it can send electrical impulses to the limbs for moving. It is stated IN THE SERIES and almost at the start of it, in the science center. In other words, a skeletal zombie moving doesn't make sense by their own lore in this serie, it doesn't matter if it is fiction or not because this is a rule stated in the series itself, it's lore breaking and uninmersive on it's own.

Then suddenly that all disappeared until the final season when they tied that loose end up. But the thing is, they clearly tried to set up that the walkers were at least semi intelligent then they never showed that again until fan demand for it made them, if anything it just shows that as time goes on they forget things, either tactically so they can slide something in that might contradict what’s came before.. or they just completely forgot, going off a lot of other things in the show I wouldn’t put it past them that they just forgot. Or they’ve realised they wrote themselves into a corner and corrected it. At the end of the day, we’re discussing a fictional TV show in which people die, then reanimate into zombies. There’s no point trying to make sense of it because it’s fiction. Pretty fucking convoluted fiction at this point too🤷‍♂️

Imagine a zombie outbreak happens just like in TWD. Over 90% of infections would happen in the first year, maybe 2 years. In around 7 years, those infected will be nothing but bones. You could put your hand in their mouth and they'd be unable to bite it. The rest of the walkers would be survivors that got infected before that point.
