I wish I had seen your video before I started assembling my saw. The problem I had was the two lugs were deployed when I opened the box. When I tried to push the carriage slide through the tubes the lugs stopped it. As I had recently assembled a high chair that also had lugs I pressed them in and the carriage slid in. Well half way in as it's not a tube, it's two tubes with a gap in the middle. it was stuck. It does sort of warn you about the lugs being deployed, but not really in the order that most people would read the instructions. So I got on the phone to Evolution this morning and sought help and the solution was so simple. My old man taught me that the hammer was the tool of last resort, however in this case it is the only tool you need unless you have an hydraulic press. Using a workmate with the jaws open I put the saw vertical so that the weight of the carriage had the lugs pressing up against whatever was preventing it going forward. I put a length of timber over the orange end of the carriage and gave it a firm but not too heavy single clout with a rubber mallet. Bingo the lugs, they are bevelled apparently, were pushed back in and the carriage passed through. So it wasn't as I thought the end of the world. p.s. If you find yourself in this situation, no I wasn't the first one to do this, just remember to keep your fingers out of the way of where the orange end of the carriage will end up when you hit it. It drops very quickly once freed. I'm ok, it wasn't my drinking hand.

Whoever at Evolution thought it was a good idea to have the diagrams all shown together on one page and the text explaining how to build this thing in another part of the instruction booklet should be shot. Thanks for posting this video, it helped me a lot with putting mine together and understand how it works. I have the newer R210SMS-300+ but the principles are the same. My instructions had a QR for an online assembly video, but my phone doesnt read QR codes and they didnt bother to simply state the url... Cracking review Russel.Thinking of buying one of theses from Screwfix.Would you say the R255MS single bevel is the one to go for or spend the extra £40 and get the Double Bevel.👍
@RussellPlatten3 жыл бұрын
If you are intending to cut a lot of cornice or compound mitres, I would go for the double bevel, a kitchen fitter would benefit from the double bevel. If you are using it for predominantly straight mitre cuts and the maybe the odd compound cut the R255SMS is the one to go for Ricky. :-)

I just set mine up and it seems to sound as though the blade is catching or oscillating. Ever so slightly. Is this normal? Thanks.
@RussellPlatten4 жыл бұрын
No that does not sound right. Make sure you have fitted the blade correctly. If it look ok, check whether the blade is oscillating by cutting into a piece of wood, not right across, and checking the diameter of the cut with the kerf of the blade. If the cut is wider than 2mm the blade may be warped. Place it on a flat surface to check. Contact Evolution customer care for assistance if you think there is an issue. :-)

How do you release the sliding carriage
@RussellPlatten4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what you mean David. The orange knob behind the saw head locks and unlocks the sliding carriage. If you mean how do you reset the locking mechanism (if it has activated before fitting the saw head to the carriage): You have to use a screwdriver or other suitable tool to prise the two white fittings that can be seen at the end of the carriage tubes until the green pins pop out on each tube. If you mean how do you remove the cutting head once it has been fitted: You need to find the holes on the cutting head where the green pins are located. Use a screwdriver or other suitable tool to push in the pin and slightly pull the cutting head away from the saw so that the pin cannot pop back out. Do the same on the other side making sure that the the first pin does not move back into the hole and pop out again. Once the second pin is pushed in, you can remove the saw head from the sliding carriage. I hope I have answered your question and described the processes adequately. :-)

This test is only if you want to saw with precision, with a miter saw. (test is not for rough work). Tips and Test: Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact / Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / EvolutionR255SMS. (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed). Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed). Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade. The second option is the handle positioned horizontal in line above the saw blade. Step-5. When you measure the vertical angle square of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing. Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing.(don't go for that). Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...
