Great review. I own one, built a 60' long patio cover out of wood with it. Couldn't describe it any better than you just did. Worked hard. Had no trouble with it though!

Thanks for the honest review!! I find lasers entirely useless too except for on the drill press which is surprisingly handy.
@jakechavez2057 жыл бұрын
I recently purchased the saw after seeing many mixed reviews and I was happy with my purchase I made at least over 100 cuts in thinner wall metal 2x2 square tube before the blade stopped cutting. This was better than I expected after seeing reviews but still wish it would have lasted longer. Very nice review I agree with your points definitely a hobby saw.

I have this saw and I don't have the play on the laser that yours has. As for the blades, I swap out the their specialty wood and steel blades and I get decent results. The utility blade that comes with it is really not the best and is good if you are cutting reclaimed wood as you mentioned or doing a project where you are cutting both metal and wood frequently. All in all, I am happy with it for the price and for the fact that it has a smaller footprint vs having two separate chop saws for wood and metal.

You should have the upgraded version as i do its dead on from factory i just had to adjust the fence to be square to blade. The laser is not on the side anymore but just inline with the hinge below the motor and has a switch to the right of the handle on top of motor cowling. Also theres an extra switch in teh handle to unlock the blade guard if you notice that.

I have this saw also. I used it for the first time last week to cut metal. It did OK, but much better than my old cutoff wheel on the angle grinder method!

Thanks, Bruce! For $200 I still think it's a great little saw, I just wanted to clear up some of the "hype". I'll always try to be honest with my people.

Good honest review, really appreciate you being straight forward. This type of "do-all-things" tools never compare to stand alones. It's like a Shopsmiths. Sure you can build things with them and many people love them, but they'll never compare to a 10" cabinet saw.

I have planned on getting one, and when my funds are right I will for sure, I have the circular saw from this company and I love it. I cut 1/4" steel plate with it regularly and still have the same blade on it that came with the saw 9 months ago.

Wow! Now, that is something I'd like to try!

Thank You for your honesty. This is probably a good saw for rough cutting boards for the build and follow up with more with a table saw and sled kind of what I do. Very nicely done.
@wmwalkerco7 жыл бұрын
That's what I think I'll be mostly using it for. Breaking down rough stock to bring it to my milling machines then the table saw.

It's a fine saw. I just think the gimmick of "the one saw to cut everything" is a little overstated. Granted, it will cut the things, but there are sacrifices in cut quality.

I bought one as a "first mitre saw purchase". Being able to cut different materials, for me sold it. Mine came with a fence that was out of line, making it almost impossible to have the fence set up properly. The fence is cast in one piece and is not flat across the surface. Otherwise, same pros/cons as in the review. I am in the UK and bought it a couple of years ago so manufacturing may be better since then. I also did not know the flange on the arbour was reversible, I will have to check that out. Maybe that is a change and has been added after many complaints. You will probably never get the best of cuts in wood any way with this saw, even with a good blade in it as it is slower than a regular mitre saw, I guess to keep it from getting too hot when cutting steel.
@wmwalkerco7 жыл бұрын
I know Europe has more strict standards on safety features than the US (no dado blades, added micro switches, etc.). The manual clearly talks about the reversible flange on "North American Shipped Saws". That is something I hadn't considered about the slower RPMs. It gave me totally acceptable cuts with a new blade, and it will stay in my shop. It has its place.

Thank you for the honest review. Sounds like a fairly good tool for the price...

For $200 it's a great tool! I just think they were overstating it's capabilities a little, but if you just consider it a sliding compound miter saw, with the ability to occasionally cut metal, it's a great tool and worth every penny.

I have the saw if you align the lazer correctly it is accurate as heck as you leave head up align lazer with part, once you move head down it does move to right of line which had you followed directions to align it you would see yours is just off to the left.
@wmwalkerco6 жыл бұрын
+Bruce Kennedy there were directions?
@200xcBruce6 жыл бұрын
yes and a cardboard lazer alignment template to align along the blade travel and the vertical I had two books with directions one for assembly one for use. You didn't get any instructions? It is no where near correct from factory you have to align it.

I really wanted to get the point across that this is a fine miter saw, but don't buy into the "cut everything under the sun" gimmick. It's well worth the price for a solid feeling sliding compound miter saw. This is not a replacement for dedicated metal cutting tools, though it will cut metal.
@nickolaspalacios93387 жыл бұрын
Just sold mine on Craigslist. Would not recommend. I cut a good bit of metal. Blade would not last, evolution will replace premature failed blades though. I upgraded to the dewalt 872 for metal and plan to get a dedicated miter saw for wood.

I'm going to keep this as my rough stock cutting miter saw, and I've got a metal cutting horizontal bandsaw on the way for my metal working

At first I wanted to say that it looks like a Harbor Freight saw with their style blade on it. With a pricepoint at $200 it seems to be acceptable though.

I will never put out a review where I'm not being honest. Honest. I felt a little bad about not being able to sing this tools praises, but there were some glaring concerns. Still a useful tool, it just has its limitations. It claims to be "the ultimate cut everything tool" and I thought that was a little misleading so I made this video to clarify some things.

Save the money on the saw and just get that funky blade and put it on a standard CMS and use it as your job site rough work blade.

I agree with you completely on tool lasers. Completely useless gimmicks. I would much rather they leave them off and charge a few dollars less for the tool. In the past, I have frustrated myself trying to adjust them. I just ignore them now. I've actually considered disabling them just to avoid being annoyed by their uselessness.
@wmwalkerco7 жыл бұрын
Most of the lasers I've used at least have a switch to turn them off. The only laser I'd really like to try out and haven't is on a drill press. I could see that being incredibly useful if dialed in right. On miter saws though, completely gimmick and manufacturers should abandon them!
@dannyhale76457 жыл бұрын
My drill press has a laser, but it takes so long to adjust it that it's not worth the trouble. Might be useful if you were repeatedly drilling the same hole. Then again, my drill press is GMC. Bet you've never heard of that brand. It may be the cheapest drill press ever made. I don't remember where I bought it, but I think it was $30 about 15 years ago. But, hey, it drills holes. The laser is my only complaint. It actually works pretty well for such a cheap tool.
