The values of F8x M3/M4's are dropping - You can now pick one up in the UK for £20,000! But with this comes certain problems, one of them being higher mileage.
After running our E92 M3 High Mileage project we wanted to do similar on the F8x platform, as we think they are starting to be an incredible value proposition. But is it the deal of the century or buyer beware?
We take a look at this F82 M4 with 125,000 miles on the clock, sharing some advice on what we look out for when buying a car, and how we carry out our vehicle inspection.

Love this idea, would love to see more! I have 97K miles on my ‘16 F80; daily driven on stock power levels; and no I haven’t done the crankhub! These cars are pretty reliable in comparison to its performance, especially as a daily driver. Highly recommend this platform!

Crank hub seems to only be an issue in chipped f8x's with power pushing close to or over 600hp. Almost a guarantee if a car's been ran with e85. I really think the whole crankhub issue is overblown, but temper that by saying these s55's are some of the most commonly modified vehicles in this class because the turbos have ridiculous unlockable potential from the factory.

i plan to get an f80 within the coming months and have watched so many buyers guides. Everyone tends to state the obvious by checking everything you would check with any car. You state everything that goes into the f8x niche. So many minor details that you state such as oil temp reader corrosion and a rusty bolt as a sign of repair that really makes this guide stand out from the rest. phenomenal.

Great video! Looks like a nice clean car considering the high mileage. Nice to see another F8X project, since I have an F87. I'd love to see you go through the front and rear suspension bushings, changing seals on the differential, servicing the differential and transmission, then onto the engine. Find out where the oil is going, replace the turbos and since it won't cost me anything, go for some engine upgrades. ;) Regarding the lack of feel in the steering, let us know it feels after you replace the front tires. I will be very surprised if a proper set of front tires doesn't make a huge difference.

I may need to bring my car to Aston to have a look at my steering also, feels exaclty like you explained this m4 at the front, ever since kerbed at like 1mph in the snow steering felt funny bit of play on front left, I took bmw for main dealer service, they said nothing wrong with it and said maybe book in for alignment, I did the alignment on a hunter alignment and I can still feel play on front left since alignment, although alignment gave a bit more confidence in cornering.

I've got a 94k mile 2015 FBO stage 2+ m4. I didn't have to do the crank hub until around 85k miles. I've replaced the brakes and had to redo my carbon roof. Need to do a paint correction, but the car has been reasonably reliable for me, and I hope it stays that way. If you want to get into the car, I'd recommend a 2017+ just for the facelift, the EZ programmable Apple car play, etc. Great video, and everything in it is excellent advice for those who are looking to get into the platform!

Great video guys. As someone who is looking at getting an f82 m4, can you mod this to create the ultimate UK b-road spec and consider some of the questions buyers will be considering? Which suspension is best e.g. B16? Kw3? Can you give it CS maps for DCT/transmission/steering and test before and after? Should you do crank hub fix? Anyone going to view an M3/M4 make sure there isn’t a clicking noise coming from the engine bay when unlocking the car. Mine has only done 20k miles and had this issue….. cost of the repair £4000! So be careful people!

Good to see a high miles car being assessed and worked on. I would like to see a detailed maintenance series on "how to bring your high miles M3/4 back to rude health" series. Try to make to apply to other models in the series too if you can, like the F3x, as much is shared between them and you'll get a wider audience hopefully. I'm mainly asking as I have a F36 440i GC and BMW has never made a M4 GC. Perhaps highlight parts that can be swapped from the M version to the more regular versions, similar to the LCA swap from the 1M to the 130/135i back in the days. Do the M4 LCA fit the 440i? The LSD? The suspension?

Later cars have better spec such as wireless CarPlay etc, very late Euro M4s will have an OPF in the exhaust. We have seen/heard of more 2017 onwards cars suffering from crank hub slip but wouldn’t want to say categorically that earlier cars wouldn’t suffer from it too. Some people prefer the LCI lights and how they look. In the U.K. a 2018 onwards car will be cheaper road tax once they reach 5 years old (like this one)

I’d bet that loose feeling in the suspension/steering is due to the cheap tires. Tried budget tires on my C63 and it became a completely different car. Had to do burnouts constantly just to get rid of the insane tire squeel lol. My 5 series diesel daily didn’t change too much when I swapped to studded winter tires, but these high performance cars definitely need sportier tires.

@@jgripen969 The comment about the bushings was a reply on your comment. You said the loose feeling could be because of the tires. A known consumable on the F80 and F82 is the differential bushing. It wasn't about your car. I've never owned or driven a C63. I was very close to buy one in 2021 just before I signed the papers for the 435i I previously owned. I bought my M4 for a ridiculously good price and my insurance is crazy good. Seams to only apply to my VIN/number plate. All other cars are much more expensive. I've fallen in love with the car and spent a lot of money on tunes and transtune, got rims and diffuser coming as well as charge pipes and a spoiler. I love the "race car" feel of it and the precision. But I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I wouldn't want to own an AMG V8. I wish I had the funds for 2 high performance cars. AMG consists of a roudy bunch of 8 cylinders in a strenuous conflict with traction and noise regulations. Judging by your name, are you Swedish?

23000£ 😮😮😮 here in germany this kind of M4 would cost about 30000£. In 2016 we had no problems here in Munich with parts supply for the f82.

You’re right about the dealer-fit tyres, but that’s seriously cheaping-out, fitting those on a car of this type. Most people buying a car like this will look at the tyres. Clueless dealer 😕

How often is it using a litre? If there’s no obvious sign it’s usually burning it

@@EvolveAutomotive about a litre every 600 to 700 miles. Possibly a bit too smokey but isn’t blueish. Someone said likely to be burning past the turbos but the car seems fine all in all other aspects but really should get to the bottom of it fully
@EvolveAutomotive

First guess would be turbos leaking internally, as that’s quite a lot of oil to be burning!

The lack of steering feel is because the thrust arm bushings. You can’t see any damage on them, but they will get soft. They last 50-60k miles. New oem or power flex and it will be sharp again

You are actually wrong, when my F82 was new it lacked steering feel due to the electric steering set up is why and you can adjust stiffness with touch of a button.

Vagueness in steering/front end is most likely those front tyres! Get them swapped. PS5’s aren’t great for steering feel either…

What turbo's would you guys recommend for replacement. I have a higher mileage F82, and most likely will upgrade the turbo's at some point next year. I know there are a lot of options , but other than oem , for a slight power bump and lasting longevity , I wondered what would be a good choice.

If looking for more power the Mosselmans are an excellent choice for reliability, drivability and power. We’re also going to be investigating a more OEM or perhaps OEM+ fix for those not wanting to for 6-700hp
