Great video Doc! How often did you go to the gym in medical school? Was it an everyday thing or just on the weekends?
@EvolvingMedic9 ай бұрын
I’m glad you like the video! It really depended on what was going on in med school. Some blocks or rotations are busier than others and I may not get to the gym for multiple weeks at a time, whereas other blocks I’m able to go 4-5 times per week!

One of my professors told me that in medical school lack of sleep that equates to movement is detrimental and doesn’t help you in being a better physician. But lack of sleep that equates to progress is what you should strive for. I’m not telling you not to sleep or sleep more. But ultimately most medical school students confuse movement with progress and we should strive for progress in anything we do in a medical profession. But all in all good take and good advice bro 💯.
@EvolvingMedic9 ай бұрын
Great point!! Often times the quantity of sleep will be lowered, but that’s why striving for high quality sleep becomes that much more important. That way you can be energized enough to excel in the classroom/hospital, and also get all the work done that you need to!

@@EvolvingMedic thank you so much!! Prayers are definitely needed and very much appreciated.. I'm doing step 3 soon, finishing a counseling diploma and applying for other jobs while waiting for God to keep leading me.. Congratulations for matching to your first choice!! My question is how did you manage parenting and marriage while in Medical School?
@EvolvingMedic9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much!! And I will probably have to make an entire video to fully answer this question, but in short: communication, grace, and as structured a routine as possible with scheduled family time.

I’m glad to hear you’re preparing for the USMLE exams! Unfortunately it is more challenging for IMGs, but it’s not impossible! Certain specialties, like medicine, may easier than surgical specialties

How do you balance between content creation, medical school, and family?

Great question! I may need to do a full video on this topic, but in short, it’s having a very structured calendar where basically everything is scheduled!

Haha, I feel attacked, but thanks for sharing with us all the lessons learned. The key takeaway for me: I must get a quality sleep to let my brain repair and retain important info.
@EvolvingMedic9 ай бұрын
That’s a great takeaway!

Currently switching to a normal circadian schedule and focusing on gettign regular sleep. I also have been on a 4-5-hour sleep schedule with MANY days of no sleep in an attempt to "catch up." It never pans out. I always end up crashing the next day or finding myself unable to study. And like JR mentioned, I rarely retain anything during those poor sleep days. Time to move on and take better care of myself. Medical school will have you doing insane things trying to cope haha.
