My grandmother along with other members of my dads family went to visit the twin towers in the summer of 2000 as tourists. We are from Delaware so the drive to NYC is a little over 2 hours. I believe they went into the South Tower. They even went to visit the roof. It was a few years before I was born. (I was born in 2004) It was a sunny but partly cloudy day. A year later on 9/11, my grandparents were at home watching on tv, thinking to themselves “that could’ve been us”. They are Italian immigrants who came to this country in the late 1950’s/early 1960’s, so they are interested in the tourist locations here. Since 9/11, my grandfather had passed away in October of 2011, my grandmother is still alive and well, and is currently 81 years old. Once this COVID-19 pandemic is over, we might head up to NYC again, to revisit the 9/11 memorial, and maybe even check out the new One World Trade Center.

The era of the horse-drawn streetcar ended on July 26, 1917 with the closure of the Bleecker Street line. By 1912, cars outnumbered horses in New York City, and trolleys met their demise at the hands of the automobile and Robert Moses 3-4 decades later.

The 20th century of New York was much more peaceful back, and the 9/11 attack occured in 2001 was one of the worst things that ended the world becoming less peaceful at the start of the 21st century. Also sad to see WTC already gone 2001, if only Osama Bin Laden didn't do something like this... :(
