When ever I was in Athens ( living there for 23 years ) I would go and see the changing of the Guard of the unknown soldier . Just in front of Syntegmza square in front of the Parliment building Beautiful to watch .

People do not realise how hard it is to march like this . These steps an arm swings take a lot of concentration. I have so much respect for the Evzone's in Athens and all over the world.

And also _why_ they're marching like this. Apparently, it's to symbolise them stepping over the bodies of the previous ranks. Which is just dramatic as hell.

The movements are designed to help the blood circulation, because normally these people stand still for a lot of time. Obviously, not while they parade. But if you notice the actual change of the Presidential Guard, you will notice many strange movements.

Interestingly, Avanites did not aligned themselves with Albanians, nor ever identified as Albanians during the Greek revolution. Arvanites lived and fought for what is now the current Greek landscape, well before the 1821 revolution took place. Interestingly, most Klephts and Armatoli of 1821 all wore a similar fustanella. A longer and off-white fustanella. Karaiskakis (a Sarakatsiano), Kolokotronis ( a Maniot) also wore a similar type of fustanella. They belonged to different ethic groups and regions in Greece. The fustanella was best suited for guerilla mountain warfare. During the Byzantine era, Akrites warriors also wore a type of skirt or Fustanella. St George and St Demetrios are also depicted wearing a "type of skirt or fustanella" in iconography. The current Evzones uniform IS based on the 1821 revolutionary and greatly exaggerated to include symbolism and honour their ancestors (400 pleats etc). The current Evzones uniform is used for ceremonial events, presidential guard and for tourists. MOST Greeks understand what the Evzones represent. It is part of their cultural heritage. Evzones are part of Hellenic cultural heritage and any malevolent comments are disregarded. Those posting malevolent, racist comments need to be respectful of cultural heritage and differences.

Who cares about Albanians anyway? Greeks and Australians fought on the same side. That's what this is.

@@bugsone5586 Don't pay attention to what Albanians say. None in the world pays attention to Albanians. You waste your time. Moreover, most of the word doesn't even know what "Albania" is.

@Hermes Psychopompos ignoring the narrative is what has created their various agendas over the last century. Staying silent does not silence their narrative. It only increases and furthers their agenda. For the greater part and good, we do ignore their narrative. Overall we don't care or listen to the sycophants. On occasion, we are compelled to school or scold. This keeps the wolves at bay. Evil is allowed to flourish, when good people do nothing.

The traditional Albanian dress was stolen by the greeks at the time of the creation of the state after the revolution of 1821 and this was done at the request of King Otto !
@lagrece

Foustanella contains 400 pietes which sympolize 400 years of Turkish occupation . Albanias were allies with Turks and according with research they had the same clothes with them. Also, foustanella has greek letters on it to show the origin and the religion . Furthermore , according to historians foustanella is the evolution of ancient greek mandias.Greeks wear foustanella a lot before 1821 P.S. King Otti said that he is going ti wear Foustanella in order to show his respect to the Greeks ,as foustanella is a traditional greek costume The Albanian propaganda should stop

I really hope we don't bother Australians. We try to introduce a little salt in our lives for taste along with Honoring the countless Greeks who spilled their blood in order the next generations enjoy freedom. Moreover, Australians fought in Greece in the same side as well in WWII!
