Art relies on artistic merit whereas craft is based on learned skills and technique. You are an artist, I have learned/learning a craft. Missed you the last two weeks. Some crafters are very artistic some just follow directions. I think anyone can be crafty but not everyone that does crafts can be an artist.

Great to see you back. I was raised with the belief that I had to be worthy to be an artist. I wasn’t good enough to call myself an artist. Only a small handful of artistic superstars had the right to use that term. And, I could never be in that superstar category. But I have grown to realize that if I do not consider myself an artist, no one ever will. The term ‘artist’ implies creative dignity. I am worthy of viewing my ever-evolving creative skill level with dignity. Now, in each and every one of my creative endeavors (painting, cooking, sewing, needlework, gardening...), regardless of my skill level, I choose to view myself worthy to describe myself as an artist.

Love the Ornaments. Would love to see the shorts from your day. I consider myself a crafter and in a way an artist. I crochet, knit, needle felt, spin, draw, paint, do photography, cake decorate, "craft", make jewlery, sew and so much more. I think all the titles are correct but when I encompass all the things I do I would probably usually call myself a crafter.

I have a solar bee that I absolutely love. I’ve had mine for 3+ years. They have an ergonomic one too. It’s not that noisy. I also use a BabyLock Embellisher. That works really well for me. Always happy to learn what others are using to be able to continue their journey in needle felting. Thank you for doing this!

Missed you, glad you are back! I too was a little worried about you, glad all is ok, just busy and aren't we all. My thoughts on art vs craft is that if you buy a pattern or kit with the idea of duplicating that item exactly, that is a craft. Like counted cross stitch or even your needle felted pumpkin. If you take a kit and embellish it and make it your own, then you have some art, like you added embroidered details to your pumpkin. I think art is putting something of yourself into what you are working on. When my daughter and I took the wet felted floral class I felt that was art - no one was trying to duplicate the models, all the backgrounds, vases and flowers were very different. I am a crazy quilter, I do not use a pattern, it is all from my heart and that is my art. If I follow a pattern in a book and use the suggested fabrics to make a quilt, that is more like a craft.

Yeah…So happy to see your video this morning. My craft room is my happy place. I still consider myself as a crafter while I’m stitching, quilting, or felting. It is interesting how the word usage changes the meaning to each person. Maybe I’m old school, but I do like to craft/make things. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas! 🎄🪡🧵❤️

Yay! You're back!! I was glad to see the shorts that Chris posted. They were cool & informative. I am interested in seeing more about the needle felting machine. It would be a lot easier on my fingers 😊 I identify as a quilter, but I also crochet, draw, paint, and do other crafty stuff. (Somewhere in my house I have a certificate stating that I am the "Goddess of Quilting" 😅

I have to say right off that I definitely think of Teresa as an artist. She has more than "skill." She has a God-given talent for making beautiful scultures. Her medium happens to me wool, not granite. Chris is more of an engineer. She is a problem solver. Still a creative process. I think of myself as a needle artist. Felting is my newest "needle art." I also knit and quilt. I have always called my creative space in our home "the sewing room," even if I am off on a needle felting adventure. Love your ideas for 2024!

Definition of a craft is a pastime that requires particular skills and knowledge of skilled work. Definition of crafter is someone who makes decorative objects with their hands. I think as a boutique owner who invites crafters/vendors into my shop who create unique objects for customers to purchase their goods……I consider My vendors crafters as they are creators. But I have learned there are many different levels of quality as crafters. I search out top quality crafters for my shop. Micheal Angelo was an artist that crafted excellent work. The word craft should not demean a product or person. Happy Crafting to all who create!

I was just thinking about my trip to ND for the bunny workshop. In my opinion in today’s society of specialty words. I am going to learn a technique from the artist so I can go home to craft what I have learned. Meaning Theresa is at a level of expertise and I am learning her craft of felting. She is an artist/expert in her craft of felting!

So glad you’re back! Missed my Saturday updates! Glad you’re well, I was getting concerned…yes I would find shorts from the mill interesting. Only social media I use is utube really. If tool helps the viewer that’s great but it is noisy. I’ve stabbed myself at times and I would be worried when you do finer work. I think I love being creative- it helps my mind. Many people are artists in different media’s…..I think of crafting as being things that are useful and made by hand or making something plain more into a work of art by creative additions, but many people think crafts are the ‘kids using glue’ for sure still. I think crafter is same as maker and no shame to it as I believe the term craftsman is still used for woodworkers that have put extra time and skill to their work. But if you see a lot of the beautiful work crafters can create they are are artisans!

The knitter could say she was inspired by and put that on her pattern to give the other persons pattern a shout out

one more thing, I think it is ok to call your workroom a craft room because you are crafting your items in there, which may be your art. It's a different use of the word!
