I'm a spinner and I would call the wool you carded as a "puni" because it resembles how cotton is processed and then spun. I have a drum carder and will have to try your technique! The best techniques are made by people who don't know what they are doing. If you don't know it's "wrong" then you can find your way to a perfectly great way of doing something.

Very enjoyable video, I'm not a spinner but I love all crafty things. I was born and raised in Surrey, UK, now in Ontario Canada. They don't serve new potatoes with salad here as they do in UK and Europe. I am buying seed potatoes tomorrow, I haven't found anywhere that sells new potatoes fresh right out of the ground!! When I first arrived 40 years ago you could buy baskets of them, still with mud on, lovely. The ones in the stores say new, but you can't even scrape the skin, therefore they are not, only small potatoes. I always make weekly soups and bread in winter here.

So I just found this video❤️❤️❤️ and I found you from Arne and Carlos on first Lockdown in the US(New England)(March 2020-July 2020)..... Arne and Carlos said in one of their videos that they use only natural fibers, and the bits they card and spin yarn from it. And from that time on, I’ve been saving my natural fiber bits and small balls. And I bought hand carders for only $7. At a thrift shop. I’ve been super lucky at thrift shops in the past. Finding weaving, spinning, and various yarn beauties!❤️❤️❤️❤️

I learned about your channel some months ago when Arne and Carlos mentioned you a couple of times so I had to check you out. So glad I did. Since watching your videos I have decided to get back into quilting after more than 20 years away from it. I would never have thought of spinning my own yarn or dyeing my own fabrics or making a Boro jacket or even trying my hand at embroidery. I am inspired at every turn at The Last Homely House. Nothing is boring here. It is peaceful and interesting. I like how you just dive in and give things a go. You said once on another video, "How hard can it be?" I told my daughter I want to cross stitch that quote and hang it in my sewing room. You have a great attitude. Cheers!

Dear Kate, I loved the brief views of snow falling outside, it reminded me of home many years ago. Even though you could be my younger sister in real time, you remind me of my granny. We lived with my maternal grandparents as an extended family. I learned so much about gardening and a little about needlework and sewing and making jam, etc. It seemed like my grandparents could do anything. What rich and happy memories listening to Granny telling stories of her childhood in the UK. I just started watching your KZbin videos a couple of weeks ago thanks to Arne and Carlos. Listening & watching you work on your various projects and talk about your life inspires me to "get on" with my own necessary activities and some creative ones, too. These are challenging times and it's easy to lose heart and stall out, at least it is for me. So thank you for inviting me and my elderly dog to join everyone else on the lime green sofa!!! 💖🐾Susan & Ben in So. Cal., USA ☮

Dear Susan, Your grand mother sounds like a gem. How wonderful to have your grand parents right there to help with teaching you so many wonderful skills. Sadly, so many children today will not have that ecperience. I treasure every moment I spent with my grand children. My husband and I cram as many teaching moments we can into our visits. My grand son, who is ten years old, wanted to make a quilt with me. He was very diligent and pleased with the results. My grand daughter, age eight, learned to knit dish cloths from her neighbor and loves it. I'm so happy God places people in their lives to teach them, when we can"t be there. I enjoy learning from Kate and having a cup of tea in the lime green sofa. I pray you are well dear friend.💖Cathy and Charles in South Central Alaska

That sure is the "rolls Royce" of carders. Spinners really do love their drum carders, so much easier than the hand ones. My mom was known in these parts for spinning dog fur. (I thought it was gross..lol) but she would do commissions and people would send her bags of their beloved dog's fur (it had to be a type that was appropriate, " no poodles"). She'd ply it with wool and then knit them what ever article they wanted. We had a collie mix and she made my daughter mittens. Can't wait to see how your colors spin up, what a nice activity for a snow day.

One of the things I love about spinning is that is allows for all sorts of people to enjoy it and be successful with it. If you want to be totally anal retentive and hard core about rules you can plan every aspect of your yarn before you ever spin an inch. And if you want to grab some fiber and put it through your wheel , making it up as you go along, you can do that too. If you enjoy spinning spider web-like yarns for lace shawls you can do that, and with nearly all the same skills you can spin funky, bulky art yarn or yarn for a plain cardigan. The options are endless!
