Contrary to misconceptions MLVs hauled short van trains! Even with their limited haulage capacity of 100 tons (50 tons on the Folkestone Harbour branch) the versatile MLVs were occasionally used as locomotives regularly hauling short van trains during their working lives. The two Phase 1 MLVs arrived in May 1959; the eight Phase 2 in March 1961 and were equipped with vacuum exhausters which enabled them to be used as locomotives hauling vacuum braked parcels vans (as an aside the two Phase 1 MLVs could also be used within a train to convert air braking into vacuum braking). During 1960, one of the two Phase 1 MLVs was diagrammed to work an evening parcels train (up to four vans) from Cannon Street to Dartford (and back) while the second MLV worked a Holborn Viaduct to Wrotham van train. Upon thier return both MLVs were coupled at Holborn Viaduct (first MLV came up from Cannon Street) to haul a further van train to Victoria (utilising their combined 200 ton haulage capacity). Another example of MLV haulage was in the late seventies /early eighties with the London Bridge to Dover mail train, where a solo MLV was used to haul the Ashford to Margate portion of that train (a couple of vans). Utilising their greater haulage capacity, pairs of MLVs were often used on van trains and in Winter 1990 I can recall a pair being used for the internal-user haulage of water tanks from Dover to keep the washer at Ramsgate depot supplied. Towards the end, MLVs were also used as depot shunting horses including two at Strawberry Hill.

I have only recently subscribed to your excellent channel and I am very much enjoying working my way through your back catalogue of videos. Your loco and unit fleet is clearly an extensive one, but well-researched and modelled to specific periods. Keep up the good work! Best wishes from Wirral.

Welcome to Ewhurst Green and thank you for your kind words of support which is much appreciated! 👍 Many of the videos feature visiting rolling stock (such as kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmjSn3eGhcyFa80, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWW9c31_nNWtiLs and kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4PPoZlofJlno8U) which makes it all the more interesting! 🙂 I do need to make some more fifties /early sixties Southern Region video but even a five minute video take well-over a day. 🌞 _In terms of layout running capabilities you might just find part of this video interesting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYSwdGaOfpiEkKOT Please do let me know what you think!😲

Happy New Year. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow - impressive! and very enjoyable! Thank you for sharing! 😎 Counted well over two dozen different trains which included some twenty different electric multiple units..... ⚡

Happy New Year Arch! 🙂 Thank you for your kind praise. I think there were thirty trains in this video (I never counted the number of electric units used) but rest assured there are still many resting in the storage loops for another time. 😉

Very realistic scenery. Would come over more believable if the trains were running at different speeds.

Thank you for your support and kind comment! Many of the trains are approaching Ewhurst Green station but will considering some non-stop services for you in the next video. The station will be included in future videos once the platforms have been completed. Struggling with visual impairment means progress is always slow.

Eye surgery is nothing to be fearful about - awaiting minor correction to a new lens.

@@ewhurstgreen I'm rather attached to my lenses - we go back a long way. Hoping an alternative procedure is available before I go blind.

My choice was sight loss or corrective surgery - not too difficult to make. But I understand your reluctance.

All seems to be running smoothly. I would have a go at adding some sound effects. Thanks for uploadin.
@ewhurstgreen7 ай бұрын
Thank you for your support. 👍 The video records the sounds of the models as they run including those with sound-chips fitted. 😉 It would be difficult to add sound for each class of locomotive that is reasonably in-step with their progress. 🤔

@@ewhurstgreen If you would like to do it, the way is to find a KZbin video featuring your train. Turn the controller to match the train's approach. You can record the sound using Audacity. This vid shows you how. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp3EaGenhc56h5osi=rGCPPEvjKhJyc_Hu Have fun.

Lovely railway thak you for sharing. As a lover of all things BR(SR) in the fifties and sixties I thought it was great and especially liked the N15X, L, and the K class mogul. I'd prefer it, if the trains ran a bit slower.
@ewhurstgreen Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments! I do need to re-motor the N15x as it is a noisy beast with its old X-04, the K is a real gem and seem to recall the L being a product from good friend Roderick at OO Works. Train speeds is something I get comments on about them being either too slow or too fast. It is tricky as what appears slow when filming can end up looking much faster on video (although in this instance many were running non-stop).
@bianchikat10 ай бұрын
thanks I enjoyed that and thanks for the 'checklist' I thought I saw an N15X is that scratch built or kit built? and the Class K is presumably a K's kit. I recently acquired a dodgy one on ebay..Do you know by any chance anyone who can service/repair such a kit built loco?
@ewhurstgreen10 ай бұрын
Thank you! The N15X is an elderly Nu-Cast kit whilst the K is a DJH kit (given to understand Nu-Cast are going to release a K-class kit. Sorry I cannot advise on kit repairers although Adrian Hall's excellent website might yield a starting place www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/categories/desc/catf-RTRRepairsandResprays else there are companies such as Golden Arrow Productions www.goldenarrow.me.uk/services.htm who might be interested. Good luck!
