Great video on the Michelin awarded foods of Singapore. You forgot to mention one other thing Geylang is known for at 12:42... It’s Duraians! Geyleng has a lot of fruit stalls , where most showcase their Durians, where you can sit and eat them on the spot, or take it away, although you can’t bring the fruit into your hotel. At the corner of Sim’s ave & Lorong 17 Geylang which makes probably the best Prawn Mee noodle soup I’ve ever had. There is a frog porridge joint just across Lor 17, and across the road is a Durian stall where you can sit & eat Durians.

A reality check. Most hawker dishes are S$4-7, and while it might be difficult in any other developed city to get a meal for this price, 95% of the food is just to fill your stomach with poor ingredients. That means in a hawker centre of, say, 50 stalls, probably 1 or 2 would be what you would consider pretty good cheap food. I regularly go to 4-5 different hawker centres and this is how it pans out for me - I find one or two that I go back to if I'm looking for a cheap simple meal. For some inexplicable reason, almost everyone in Singapore considers themselves a "foody". I've lived in many cities and while Singapore is OK for food, it certainly would not be in my top 3. I don't know how two hawkers received a Michelin Star - I feel for all those restauranters that sweat blood and tears for years to give customers an exceptional dining experience in order to receive 1 Star. What a slap in the face. It might be good value for S$6, but a Michelin Star? Comeon! As for the Michelin ratings in Singapore - if you went to a 2-3 star restaurant here and went to the same rating or a top non-rated restaurant in Europe, the US or other cities in Asia you may also think there is a lot of politics involved. I have yet to go to a Michelin rated restaurant in Singapore and thought it deserved its rating. The only thing that is not different is the exhorbitant price - be prepared to pay S$400-500 (US$300-400) for dinner each and that's before looking at the pretentious fully imported wine list.

@@ParvathiGopinath I'm not the person to ask about Indian food. But if u are interested in Chinese Singaporean food I would suggest Teck Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice (also ask for the Acar - pickled veges) and Lo Chan Kee Cantonese Wanton Noodles (for the dumpling soup (not the wanton). These are both at Holland Drive Hawker centre. Another more famous hawker centre is at Alexandra Drive. There I would suggest Xiang Jiang Soya Sauce Chicken and Star Yong Kwang Seafood (poorly rated on Google but the prawn paste chicken wings and sambal stingray are very good). All except the last one you will need to go early, i.e. if you are going for lunch, show up at 11am, no later. Otherwise there will be a very long queue and they may run out of what you want. The ones at Holland Drive are for lunch only. Star Yong you can go for dinner, but again, better to go earlier than later. Hope u enjoy.

T T chicken rice is above avg at best... locals hardly eat at the stall...look at queue and you see almost everyone holding a map. At Maxwell you also missed out Oyster Cake which is the real gem. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is hhhhmmmmmmm.... The claypot rice at chinatown is good but there's an even better one few rows across... all the time you spent queuing... you really dont have to..

Not "normally". It's just that malaysian version is herbally. Sg version is more peppery.

Welcome here .. but what have you the idea that claypot rice is not popular? It is a fav dish of many. And that should be la mien instead of ramen, as it is chinese instead of Japanese. They do taste different.
