Ichiran Ramen🍜Overrated or Institution?

Ichiran Ramen - overrated or institution ramen? Well originated from Japan, Ichiran ramen can be found in some overseas locations like New York, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Everytime we go to Tokyo, we just had to get a bowl of Ichiran ramen. Also, there are not much queue these days, maybe because others going to Michelin star ramen places!

ichiran sets a ramen standard like mcdonald's or burger king... a consistent product no matter which part of japan i'm at.... it's great raman as a chain and above average in general personally i prefer ichiran over ippudo for the more richness of the soup

yes but this place is allowing tourist that first time visit japan to eat their ramen in great atmostphere. because when in come to local tonkotsu ramen, the best one usually have all japanese menu and the eating space is so tight that usually we will be surounding by local. for first time visiting japan that's kind of intimidating for me, ichiran have great concept seperating seat between seat which make me more comfortable when eating

Had the chance to eat there! Our Japanese companion told us that there are more “authentic” ramen places in Japan but opted to experience this! And man it’s just the comfort food you needed after a long day! can’t stop thinking about our next trip to Japan!

I have eaten there on my last day in Japan. The staff are very respectful and the ramen was very strong but incredibly delicious. If any of you folks are planninga trip to Japan, i reccomend going there.

I had the opportunity to go to Ichiran on my school trip to Japan in 2017 and my god I still think about the ramen to this day. I haven't had ramen like that ever since, and I've been dying to go back ❤️

you know why this place is one of the best for tourist? because as tourist we fill kind of uncomfy eating sit next to stranger in tight place. the usual local ramen that have best tasting ramen usually have open space tight seat. meanwhile ichiran have seperator which make me a tourist feel more comfy eating alone. but for taste there is a lot local place have better tonkotsu ramen compare to ichiran.

I just went to the ichiran ramen place yesterday and it was the best first time experience. The workers are very respectful to their customers and the food is delicious! I went to the one at New York City. Definitely going there next time if I have a chance. (Btw u can order without talking so if you’re not a fan of being social here’s your go to place)

As a light eater that has never really been able to finish a bowl of ramen by myself, the one time I went to Ichiran on a trip to Japan, that bowl of ramen was the first ever bowl of ramen that i finished all by myself in my life. Their ramen is amazing and I would do anything to eat it again.

You have to ask the locals to have an accurate answer. It’s like the fast food of ramen to them, not the best but will satisfy you in some way. It’s probably comfort food to them, they serve fast and open till late. People eat and go when they are done so even with long queue, it moves fast. But if you ask a tourist like me, it’s a must to patronize Ichiran a couple of times when I travel to Japan because I don’t get to taste something like it in where I live😂 PS: Go during the wee hours, almost no queue most of the time

Fun fact: All ramen is fast food to the Japanese unless over-glorified by fine dining. Just like how a typical burger is fast food to Americans.

I never had the Ichiran in Japan(or been to Japan), but I had the Ichiran in NYC in three different places, the first one I had was in Brooklyn with my sisters and this was the first ramen I ever had(meaning I never had that cheap ramen you get for 99¢) and it was very good, and I love that it was customizable and you get your own booth without talking to the staff. Definitely my favorite ramen place~

same here. first time having real ramen was the brooklyn location. i tried the one on 15th street i believe have yet to try the one in mid town all tho im sure the quality is all the same. i even tried some more local ramen shops. one was pretty dam good not exactly the same but hit the spot. tried another local place today and i don’t think i’ll go back for the ramen but the Karaage chicken was pretty dank.

As a Japanese, I love this place. Ramen there is quite delicious, especially the soup is the best part of it. Some Ichiran in Tokyo are open until morning like 6am. And I usually go there in the morning after having drinks with my friends.

It's like in n out burgers. It has the nostalgia and consistency from the very first time you had it, but there will always be people who claim to know a better spot. This is still my number one.

Ive just tried this ramen shop yesterday. My first thought is that this ramen shop feels like a normal ramen shop like in my country, the line is so long, lets say a 50 minutes wait, my legs are dying waiting for that long. I’m almost going to go home, but since everyone said that this is the best ramen shop for introverts, i really gotta try it out. When i arrived at my seat, i ordered my ramen. Took like less than 3 minutes i think until the ramen to arrive at my table. I took my first bite, “my god, this is the best ramen ive ever eaten in my entire life ever”, i finished the ramen in like 5 minutes because of how delicious the ramen is. Very recommended indeed

My husband has had this ramen in Japan as well as in NYC. He was amazed that the high quality between both locations was the same--being able to have that consistent of flavors was so cool for him

​@@blueyes6474I believe 2 locations in NYC actually. They're really good though there is usually some line that forms outside. If you're going in large groups, they'll have a hard time finding seats that open up next to each other so you may have a longer wait.

Love Ichiran ramen…had it when I was in Osaka, and Nagoya too I think? The noodles were good but my favorite part is the individual seating, no communication necessary, and their ice water dispenser

i heard this place was overrated only AFTER i had finished my trip to japan (it was a last minute trip to for an appointment at the korean embassy there so i didn’t have time to research places), and i was so shocked to find out it was a chain and that it wasn’t a place most people consider to be good lmao i loved it, the miso ramen was crazy and i think about it regularly even 4 years later lol. it was february at the time too, so very cold and this ramen was PERFECT after walking in the cold weather all day

@@jen8427 Yeah, well, caviar would be nice but I’d be happy to pay around 1,200 even with just mentaiko + lots of chāshū + ajitsuke tamago. And, of course, a really good broth. Again, paying a base price of around 1,000 yen with measly toppings feels like being scammed. There are so many other places to try. I don’t think I’ll ever (willingly) set foot in Ichiran again.

I had ramen there in Hong Kong last week. I didn't order any additional condiments. It came with just onions and 2 pieces of paper thin slices of pork...no egg or seaweed.....$15 USD. I felt hungry afterward because it didn't fill me up. Never going there again. My son ate there in Japan and he said the same thing.

I had really great ramen in my travels of Japan. I also learned a lot about what my personal flavor preferences are. Ichiran can definitely improve their noodle game. I read reviews that 7-8 years ago the noodles were fresh, but for demand they moved into packaged and processed noodles. For the price, they SHOULD be fresh. It's convenient ramen, not great, not bad.

As a tourist, my party and I went to Ichiran in Tokyo and Osaka. I now live in Tokyo and haven't set foot in one. As a 'local', I have the time to go to better places. Even my local Ito Yokado shopping centre is good and cheaper.

I just came home from Japan not too long ago, it was a complete dream of mine to try this Ramen out in Tokyo and it was AMAZING BOTH TIMES I ate it. HOWEVER, the 2nd time I ate it on a busier night instead of in the middle of the day, I actually got sick bad lol probably from trying to eat it all since I researched it's disrespectful to leave food. Still life changing though. I will go back despite it lol.
