The Dying Teenager That Inspired Ireland | EWTN News In Depth June 2, 2023

Donal Walsh was only 16-years-old when he was battling cancer to survive. After being told by the doctors that his condition was terminal and he had only weeks to live, he decided to go on live national television to try and encourage young people to value life more. He spoke for nineteen minutes on television, but it was 19 minutes that inspired the entire country of Ireland. Ten years later, his legacy still lives on. EWTN reporter Colm Flynn went to the Basilica of Knock in Co. Mayo, Ireland, where over 2,000 Irish students gathered to honor his memory.

I am going through a very difficult time. Losing 2 pregnancies in miscarriage and another one was a failed IVF even though I tested positive. I have stopped praying and going to Mass because of this. It reminds me also of the death of Blessed Carlo Aquitis in 2003 at the age of sixteen due to blood cancer.He was a hero of Catholic faith who through internet evangelized the world about Holy Eucharistic miracles happened in the Catholic Churches throughout history. Thanks for posting. Was only surprised at the words of the mom, when Donal slipped away. She said the moment was "awful and she would not wish that on anyone." Well, ok, granted, on one level we are going to miss our loved ones for a short while. But come on, if we are people of faith we have to believe that this is God's plan for us and we'll be united together again soon. And as for not wishing this on anyone, well it Will be visited on Everyone, so that's a non-starter. Death is a reality for every single person, and it is bittersweet. Christians must emphasize the sweet over the bitter.

I just saw this video and I am near tears. I just sent a message to my grandson who is graduating from high school this weekend. I thank God everyday for the lives of my family and friends and even my enemies. I want to share something with the parents of Donal.
