Why does the moment diagram drop due to a concentrated counter-clockwise couple moment when counter-clockwise is positive in convention?

He's using an opposite sign convention. When he started, he drew "Ay" as positive on the shear diagram, but per convention while the reaction is positive the internal shear would have been negative. This would mean that + moment now has to be clockwise to math out. While technically "wrong", I do it the same way. As long as you're consistent it all works out

Wouldnt by have to be greater than ba since it has a shorter moment arm to react the load? I would think they’d be the same if the applied moment is applied exactly between the reaction points.

What is a concentrated moment?

You can think of concentrated moments as the torsion that is being transferred from a perpendicular beam to the point on the beam shown in the video. In reality, there aren’t true concentrated moments as there are still other forces at play, but for the sake of simplicity we depict them as “concentrated.”

put two forces sufficiently close together, one equal and opposite to the other(net force is 0) such that the force times the distance equals 6 ft-kips, you will get close to the same shear and moment diagram. As the distance between the two forces approach 0, the slope of the moment curve between the two forces will approach infinity, and at that point, you've got your concentrated moment.
