These things in the subconscious that meditation brings up, are already within beforehand. And when it brings them up, they can be felt, seen by the light of consciousness, and therefore healed. Theres nothing wrong with that. As for the Dark Night of the Soul, I am so thankful for it. Its been a rollercoaster, and my life fell apart, but my life was shit before the dark night of the soul, and now I'm so much stronger, happier and in my power.

There's much discussion on this topic. I feel the same you do that the things that come up are already in there and it's part of the process. But there is also an argument for those things not taking up enough space to do any damage before and that they are better left alone. I believe it's important to show people these things can happen since many become shocked when meditation doesn't just make them calm and all "zen" Thank you for sharing your experience!

I have been meditating for years, done retreats and as a yoga teacher taught others how to meditatie. And then at a point of my life a few years ago I didnt want to meditatie any more. I have accept this and that is ok.

I've had periods when I also didn't feel much like meditating, and as you say, that's perfectly fine. It might be that you start doing it again eventually, or maybe not. Another reason could be that the reason you started out meditating to begin with is no longer valid. Ie you felt you needed to find some kind of answer. When the need to find those answers either because you found them or because they no longer felt relevant, changed, you no longer had a strong reason to meditate. Thank you for sharing your experience :)

Thank you, It's the knowledge one should have before going deep into all the many practices out there. The benefits still far outweigh the downsides, but people get stuck, and things can spiral out of control. Especially if one is not prepared for the difficult parts of meditation.

I've been inconsistently meditating for a few years. I agree with last statement about doing the same meditation all the time. I came to the conclusion that scrolling through apps looking for new meditations almost daily is just looking for entertainment and a new dopamine hit. I also find the breath meditations to be the most beneficial.
@MartinKPettersson6 ай бұрын
That is so true! It's one of the downsides to having access to all the knowledge and techniques since most people never seriously practice any one of them. Instead, they try new techniques like they were Tiktok videos :)

This scares me into not wanting to meditate or grow spiritually. As someone who battled depression for 20+ years and overcame it's trap, it's not something I want to return to. If meditation and spiritual awakening can cause a dark period in one's life then I do not want to participate. However I deeply want to grow as a person and a spiritual being. I'm so torn.... please help? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your videos, I just happened upon them and am watching them now.

Try it for yourself and be at peace with the feeling. Don’t force yourself into anything. Try to maintain a balance in the emotional landscape. I meditate regularly and I love it. If there are periods that I dun wanna do it, i just listen to myself

I went into a scary trance state once inadvertently and had to pull back for a bit. I was left with a psychic gift I hadn't asked for. I now find walking in a quiet place while either emptying my mind or praying helpful and also Tai Chi as a form of centering movement. Conscious breathing is excellent too, it helps me to focus on the feeling of the air going up my nostrils. Also, a creative visualisation at times of stress, when i imagine myself walking through a meadow or woodland and then meet with Jesus on a bench and have a quiet chat, or just imagine writing my worries on paper and putting them in a little raft made of twigs and letting it go down a brook or stream. And finally, there is my standing chakra exercise, where i do energy visualisation. Sometimes it's best though to seek guidance from a more expert mentor. There are many different ways of expressing one's spirituality. You can lovingly stroke your pet or listen to birdsong, fully immersed, or stand in bare feet on the grass or earth first thing the morning. It's not so much what you do but the attitude and intention you bring to it. Don't lose the gift in the process over focus on outcome.

I have been through more than one "dark night of the soul" and a "Kundalini awakening" meditation did not cause either one. Meditation helped me get through all of it and also has helped me cure a traumatic brain injury and PTSD. My life is completely different now, it's true. I do not associate with toxic people any more- not because I feel superior to them, but because they were injuring me and meditation helped me realize that, as painful as it is to sever old ties, it is worth it inorder to heal.meditation did not cause that, self worth did. I am not going to be around people who are damaging me. I do know there is spiritual bypassing and I do not think meditation is the cause of it. Meditation may be used by people as a tool of spiritual bypassing; it is not the cause. The bypassing is an avoidance which happens anyway. The folks who do spiritual bypassing would be using other techniques of avoidance anyway. You mentioned that you have been depressed. Do you think meditation caused that? I do agree that it is not always easy. To face the trauma that I have endured, to battle those inner demons and to learn how to manage my unpleasant emotions was like walking through hell. Meditation did not cause that either, it gave me the tools and strength to go through it all and walk out the other side. I was already in hell, meditation was one of the keys that helped me get out of it. The way out for me was through. If I had stayed where I was, I would be dead. For me, the journey was worth it ten thousand fold. Inner demons are the cause of the pain. Meditation showed me the demons and helped me to have the courage to walk through the excruciating pain of facing them and learning how to exorcise them instead of running from that pain. If you break a bone, it is painful. Setting that bone is excruciating- and it allows the bone to heal. If one avoids the excruciating pain of setting the fracture, it will never fully heal and the pain will always be there. Good luck!

There're several kinds of meditation out there. But the real and correct method of meditation taught by the Supreme Buddha was hidden, misunderstood, and misinterpreted because there weren't any individuals who realized and experienced within (aka enlightened ). Correct buddhist meditation doesn't have any negative effects. Supreme Buddha's teachings are directed to achieve permanent happiness in the mind. All other meditation techniques can bring a temporary solution and sometimes negative effects as well. Practicing real buddhist teachings the correct way helps anybody to realize the true nature of the mind and everything else, which eventually ends all the sufferings and achieves ultimate happiness. May you achieve this goal! 🙏🙏🙏

Breath meditation almost ruined my life. Instead of living in delicate blends of dreams and metaphor and poetry and past joys and future hopes I became a slab of respiratory meat. And to top that hell off I was lying there as a physical object waiting for the next breath to come and there’s no stopping it. What a nightmare. In my experience it’s best not to fiddle with your brain. Instead just get exercise, sunshine, hopes for the future, fun relationships and passionate hobbies. Don’t become a slab of breath meat, a physical object waiting for the next unstoppable breath to come. Maybe it depends on the person… Good video though, thanks!

I'm sorry to hear that and you're not alone in having difficult experiences like that. How long did this last for you, and what would you say was the main things that helped you get out of it? Also do you know how it was triggered?

Not to mention depersonalization-derealization which I have experienced. I would still recommend mediation though.

There are many things that can come up and some of them are unpleasant. I just like you still recomend people to meditate but I want to be clear that there can be complications along the journey.

@@MartinKPettersson I get it! Btw I misspelled Depersonalization-derealization in previous message (now corrected). That was a really unpleasant experience now over, I guess part of the so called dark night of the soul.

Oh btw there is a competent (in my opinion) meditation teacher called Shinzen Young, which spoke about this issue: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6usfIR5rKmLqaM I have been there, but for short time.

@@MartinKPettersson Oh btw there is a famous and competent (in my opinion) meditation teacher, called Shinzen Young, which openly talked about these issues in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6usfIR5rKmLqaM. I have been there for a short time. He is very eloquent: basically there is a dark side to meditation but under the guidance of a competent master you can easily avoid these pit-falls (pun intended), making meditation still a valid spiritual tool.

@@jamiemills2645 I think you are reading too much into it. I have something to share that can help people. And people are more likely to give the video more than 3s before clicking away if they know I've lived as a Buddhist monk. I could write that I've had 15 000 hours of meditation in meditation centers with Buddhist masters from many traditions. I dedicated almost every living hour of 6 years practicing meditation and many years as a layperson afterward. But that would be convoluted, so writing "Ex-Buddhist Monk" seems like a good middle ground. Either way, hope you got something useful from the video :)
