Good stuff is happening. GDP is up. Unemployment is low. Inflation has dropped. And families are bringing in more money than they have in years. Yet people seem miserable. Former Fed economist Claudia Sahm explains the disconnect between the rosy economic data and how people perceive things.

Ms. Sahm's analysis is intelligent, data-centered, multi-layered, and independent-minded. Thank you. One can disagree with her, yet admire her informed thoroughness.

It's disgusting to witness someone being completely disconnected from the reality of the majority that's suffering right now. This is what a two-tier society does. It creates two kinds of people, those within the system that benefits and those outside of it that lose out on everything.

The shortage of housing is built (haha) in the offices of government administrators from the Feds to the local building inspector. The cost to build a uint of housing today under current zoning and codes it twice what it was 20 years ago. It's form of non-monetary inflation measured in dollars. AND base inflation has not been completely declared by government figures. Anyone who recent bought some food can tell you.

if a paycheck emanates from a government printing office the policy which accompanies it is not true.

It's not a Goldilocks economy. After this interview, I feel like it is an Alice in Wonderland economy. This woman, who can neither form a proper sentence nor finish a thought, is down the rabbit hole.

You said not much has changed, but I need to get out of here so that I can get back to my real job. Begs the question what is your real job? And I agree people are very productive working from home, but productive at what, laundry, raising kids, yes by all means

I can tell you from my own personal experience that something is off in your analysis. I have been living paycheck to paycheck since 2022. Prior to that I had money!

Great interview with an amazing expert. She knows her stuff, knows her mind and speaks it. Wish she used some data and charts to make her points...would be invaluable.

USA a country whose GDP is consumer driven. Driven by what we consume and not produce. Let's hope other nations keep funding our treasury.

I think that's over this year as China pulls back. And consumers are going to take a break, they have all they need and most of what they want.

I have a family of four. 3 percent raise in two years. Rent up 30 percent. Two packages of bacon now have same baking pan coverage as one package used to have. I live in the real world. Academic economists do not as the are actually political economists and need to support the government or will be unemployed lol Seems like a nice person but thinks we are all stupid dummies I have a Mensa IQ

This guest, like many academics, get lost in the theoretical interpretations of sterilized data, and they end up misreading reality altogether. Saying that, and I quote, "the average citizen is better off financially today than pre-pandemic" is simply outrageous.
