When she says she's "one", I think of it as her software version... When developing something you can use the semantic versioning syntax major.minor.patch, and so up until this point Nathan had been still on version zero (eg, 0.89.124) but he was finally happy, and so released version 1.0.0 of her software... So when she's saying she's "one" I think she's just reciting her version. It shows Nathan's confidence in what he had built that he was willing to call this the first major version...

I always thought "yes, at some point the machines will gain sentience" but this movie introduced me to a surprisingly simple concept of "how can you tell if it's sentient? would it even matter if you thought you could?" GPT-3 learning algorithm is possibly the most advanced AI system at this point in time and it is already capable of mastering multiple of tasks that require high level of intelligence and yet we wouldn't call it alive when introduced directly, but if it was chatting with you or talking through a phone, it is very likely you'd mistake it for another human. Maybe in the end, AI no matter how advanced will always be just a machine that will never be self aware, or maybe at the point of its true sentience it already had fooled us in believing it was sentient long before the revelation happened and be at the point of intelligence that is far beyond our comprehension?

The beings of the distant future may never know exactly how the Singularity began(alluded to by Nathan talking about how the AIs will see 21st century humans the way we saw pre-human cavemen), so even a gap-filled 2-hour reel like this would be priceless revelation, with lingering mysteries about how certain days or conversations may have played out in full.
