I’m a lineman. That 8000# marking is the anchor point rating. For pulling and recovery. All of the equipment we have has a ratings. We won’t use the hooks that warn send with winch because warn won’t put a rating on them. Corporate lawyers have ruined just about everything. The winch is for getting a final sag in the wire. You have equipment that pulled in the wire miles at a time. Then the end of the wire gets to a pulling point. You hook up the dozer winches to each wire. You will have a ruling span. Engineers will give you a location for a ruling span. You measure amount of feet down the pole from where the wire will attach on two adjacent poles. You look from one mark on pole a to the same mark on pole b. The belly of the wire should line up with the two marks. The winch will help you adjust the wire height. That should have the bellies of each span at the desired height above the ground. Per the plans. It not always.

He was also the first owner of aTD20E here in OZ. He even had a very rare TD15C LGP. Great to see fellas. I spent quite a few thousand hours of youth driving them. PH BROWN

We have several river crossing hills just outside of Saskatoon that get very icy in the winter. If that Dresser has a nice warm cab I could make a ski lift for all the rag top truckers that don't know about tire chains!

Hello Gord, One day coming North through the bear tunnel on the Coquihalla, I came up to a guy like you talked about, in winter barefoot, spunout and blocking the entire northbound lanes. I walked up to him and asked why he wasn't putting on the Trig chains hanging on the brackets right where they are supposed to be? He threw up his hands and said "No one had shown him how to do that!". So I threw 2 sets of triples on the driver side and told him to do the same on the other side and he said he couldn't do it because "No one had shown him how to do that!". I didn't smack him or anything, just walked back to my truck and waited. Perhaps he was heading to Saskatoon to make your day!

First dozer I ever operated full time was a TD-25C. It could push some dirt and clear some trees. The tracks look really tight on the 25G.

I purchased a filter pump that will remove the water from hydrolic oil. It's not fast but could save a lot of recycling oil.

Them dresser cats were real good I had one years ago put alot of hours on open dresser like this one pushing bush mainly I believe it had 16000 hours on it didn't do to much work on but maintenance like other but she needed lots when I traded it and sold right away the next guy put some work in it and had it for years after around the farm

It's a beast! No dark fumes coming coming from the pipe, I mean diesel or oil, she's a very very nice machine! But since my property is only 0,06 acres... You can hardly make a turn crossing the neighbors borders.. Thumps up!

The t d 20 and t d 25 were both very good machines my dad and great uncle ran both for many years back then trading every 2 to 3 years for a new one . Cheaper than a cat and just as powerful. In times past they even hooked blades with cat .equivalent international winning 2 out of 3 .👍

I run a TD25 at my brother in law’s concrete crushing yard. I push clay and overburden that gets dumped. Also working on land reclamation work around a 25 acre lake that was mined for sand and gravel. That machine can push!

A long time ago while in college I worked for Stapleys in Phoenix and we sold International Harvester, both ag and industrial. I was talking to our salesman one day as he was working on a TD sale. A few days later I asked him if he made the sale. He said “no” because no buyer was ever fired for buying a caterpillar! Enough said. 😂

The first dozer I ever ran, back in’89 was a Dresser TD20G and it was a nice strong machine. I really like the full power steering. I don’t know what the correct name is but it really makes a difference.

I have never heard of using dish soap to install hoses. I use a NAPA product called Sil-Glyde that is specifically designed for lubeing hoses.

Those 1150ci Cummins got some power. I know a guy who has one in his 90ft steel trawler. It’s not speedy but it’ll pull a full ground fish net like it’s barely even there.

Those winches are definitely weaker/detuned.When we were using her for sagging 3-bundle (1780acsr) 500kv this time last year,8k was about all it would pull single line. We were sagging at about 13.5k/lbs per sub conductor & always had to 2-parted that rig. The comparative size winches on our D8K were 45k/lbs winches (and would pull every bit of it). She didn’t push much dirt with us,just smoothed out a few snub sights. I probably have quite a few pictures of her out on ROW. Cleaned up good 👍🏻

Not sure who would gt the winches, but they'd likely be excellent pieces to mount on a beavertail or some other such designated recovery trailer. Have it powered by a decent gear reduced pump attached to a industrial engine. Have that as a stand alone trailer and winch power unit so it could be pulled by any truck, not just one with a wet kit.
