What I think, and this is just my assumption here, is that the car doesn't need to start preheating the battery since you are driving a longer distance to the charging point and the battery will be warm enough. I guess if you start with a cold battery while reaching the charging point with about 20% SOC within 30 minutes, you should see the message again about preconditioning.

Yeah maybe.. Just didn't think it could stay warm for almost 2 hours, with this temperature in the environments.

Thanks Kristian, great videos, helps me and my wife a lot to decide if we want the car or not.

would be super helpful if volvo could display the battery temp, it would answer so many questions perhaps there is an app that you can install that shows that type of information

As far as the charge rate goes. Could it be that Volvo have done it properly and let the car pull from the charger what the battery can accept+all extra loads? Like battery heater, cabin heater/cooler and so on. Some cars do that, some don't. Saw your responses about AC charging issues being 1/3rd of your XC40 on the same charger. Just want to ask the obvious, is that with the same cable? (Have had borrowed cars where they've thrown in a single phase cable. Thats great whan you plug in to an 11kW charger and return a few hours later realising you've only charged at 3.7kW...🙈)
@volvo_kristian8 ай бұрын
Not sure about the charge rates.. Regarding AC charging. That was also my first thought. That it was the cable. Since I used my XC40 first days. Then I used the EX30 cable, but same same.

A wise aerospace engineer friend said it best: "All complex systems operate in the failure mode." Pilots have a different way of saying the same thing, often at very tense moments: "What's it doing now?" Both sayings seem to apply to the EX30.

Hi Kristian, Never seen a preheating message on my Polestar 2, is this because I live in the UK and it is not cold enough to start the pre heating? Love the videos? Hopefully you get to also try the Polestar 3, 4 and maybe the 5!!!

Thank you for the video. However, I'm not really following how you are perceiving the charging to be a hassle? The 20% requirement is a bit higher than perhaps needed, but it is mentioned in Volvo's official documentation, at least here in Finland it is mentioned already in the price catalogue. Also, seems like perhaps in this video the battery was already heated from your previous charges enough so you didn't need to preheat it more. And you mentioned that it was weird that the car was charging at over 160 kW because "the car was supposed to peak at 153". On Volvo's official site it is said that DC fast charging supports up to 175kW ("you can charge 10 to 80 per cent at a 175kW DC fast-charging station in as little as 26.5 minutes"). I appreciate the videos and tests, but perhaps some things could be researched a bit more beforehand? Although I guess it's also good to show what type of issues/worries a person might have who just picks the car up and starts driving.

Hello thanks for your feedback. Haven't heard anywhere about the 175 kW.. And I'm always researching the dry facts. So weird that you got 175 kW from official information. The 20% limit haven't been informed about here in Norway either.. The charging hassle are primarily related to AC charging.. The EX30 presscar charges at 1/3 of my XC40 speed. At same charger

I've just looked and looked and looked.. Can't find anything on Volvo's website about the 175kW. Could you send a link or something on my Instagram account. Same name there.

I tried to reply to you under my previous comment, but it kept getting removed possibly due to some formatting choices I made. Maybe now it won't get removed: Hi, unfortunately I do not use Instagram, but if you go to the Norwegian website of Volvo Cars and go to 'For eiere' and then 'Support' and choose EX30, you can find 175 kW mentioned there when you go under 'Lade bilen', choose 'Ladetid og ladestatuser' and then 'Ladetider'. It should also be mentioned on the front page of the EX30 section of Volvo Cars Norwegian website. There is the 'Hva vil du vite om Volvo EX30?' section and there is the question 'Hvor lang tid bruker jeg på å lade en Volvo EX30?' which mentions 175 kW. Regarding that AC charging speed issue, did you check the charging rate limit from the car's settings? There is an option for that (you can also find this in the manual under 'Stille inn amperegrense for lading'). I want to add that I do not want to sound arrogant, I'm thankful for you making these videos as I am very grateful for all new EX30 content. I just want to be sure that there is accurate information being spread on the internet! Obviously I might not know everything and you as the driver of said car have more hands-on experience, but I have spent a lot of time researching info about the EX30 in excitement about receiving one in a few months.
@volvo_kristian8 ай бұрын
Found it eventually on the global page. I haven't seen that anywhere. And I attended a EX30 presentation from Volvo Car Norway last Thursday. Also with clear information that 153kW are peak speed. Not sure if you know me from previous videos. I'm not just a guy that picks up a car and drive. I always do my homework. Even several times, just to be sure that I'm communicating correct information. So slightly disappointed now, and also got a feeling we're shooting the messenger. I'm communicating the information I've gotten. Directly from Volvo.. Regarding AC. I've checked the limits. Went thru the whole menu looking for what could cause it. But as I've said in this or previous EX30 video's. Could be a bug with my exact EX30, because it has some weird Quirks regarding charging behaviour. Didn't take you as arrogant, but would appreciate a more open approach with your information. That sadly haven't reached me.. But anyways. No problem. Thanks for clearing this up. Will have to make a new video now 🤣
@n0b0d1r8 ай бұрын
Ah yeah, there might even be some bug in that exact press car if the charging is behaving a bit weird. I didn't mean to be rude or shoot the messenger, perhaps the 175 kW mentioned on the website is wrong and the Volvo representatives had more up-to-date information, but then again that would be a bit confusing when we think about the 160+ kW you got in the video so who knows. As I mentioned in my first comment under this vid, I appreciate the videos and tests. Thanks! @@volvo_kristian

@n0b0d1r Yeah I'm super confused now 🤣 Because now I'm reading it can charge at a 175kW charger. Not that the car can actually receive 175kW.. Have to do some investigation before making my final charging video. Thanks 🙌

Really appreciate what you are doing with these videos. Our EX30 arrives in next couple of weeks, so all information (good and bad) is gratefully received. It’s good to be forewarned. Thanks!
