I don't think "Galerians: Ash" was a bad game, but it could've been better. The biggest problems were that the producers rushed it's production so soon after the first game came out, not enough funding in favor of more popular franchises, didn't get enough advertisement: in short, it could've been great if it got the attention it needed. And even now, I still believe a sequel is possible. As an Autist, this series became my special interest since the beginning of the month. I even worked out the theoretical science behind psionic powers because of "Galerians": that's how fascinated I was with it.

One thing to keep in mind about couples in Japan sleeping in seperate beds but the same room is that many people sleep on futons which are often not big enough to fit two people comfortably, so it could be less of a love thing and more of a convience thing

I dunno if I'd agree with Galarians being called a Resident Evil clone. Like sure it has tank controls, it has fixed camera angles. But to me RE clones were always, well, trying to ape Resident Evil. I don't get that feeling from Galarians. The sections of the game where you're exploring non-combat zones, talking with NPCs, the combat not being guns based, and just... the plot. For me a big part of being a clone is trying to do the same thing, while I'd totally call Deep Fear, Blue Stinger, Carrier and Martian Gothic RE clones for their stories being pretty resident evil-y (they got them zombies, one and all! (or close enough with Blue Stinger)), Galarians doesn't isn't. It's not just that the enemies aren't zombies, it's the context of who you fight and why, of the level and intent of pathos and bathos at play. I guess a simpler way to put it would be: If someone likes Resident Evil, I'd definitely recommend them play Deep Fear. But I would not recommend them Galarians on their enjoyment of RE alone.

I just finished Galerians: Ash after putting it off for so long. I love the original game, and now I love it even more knowing they sampled NIN in one of its tracks! You're absolutely right about the 2nd game having too much padding. There's a decently tight 3 or 4 hour game there that will take most players well over 7 hours, full of annoying padding. That elevator puzzle had me so confused running between rooms and corridors with respawning enemies, burning through resources. Yeah the enemies drop items but 90% of the time it's just tiny stat boosts and not essential items like health, delmetor, and ppec refills. Oh and when I got to Romero I said to my chat (I was streaming) if we actually get a boss fight here I'll be happy, but watch we're gonna have to run through a dozen or so rooms now and, lo and behold, we had to pretty much do that by chasing him around in a total circle. Infuriating.

Sorry to nitpick but that door opening sound effect is not the same one used in DooM. It was used often in the classic OG RE games though. Your stream of this game was a fun watch especially watching you struggle with the door knock puzzle. It brought back memories

I'd say a spiritual successor would work better than a reboot or remake of this series -- psionic powers make for a fun framework, but the existing story is so rooted in the tropes of the era that it'd need a complete rewrite to not be a total cringe-fest. At that point, you might as well just make something new, even if you're still wearing the _Akira_ influence on your sleeve.
