I thought the ruler idea was very good, really helped me to understand which way the forces were turning which I struggled with before this video

Hello, great video! How can I calculate this for an item of known weight except I don’t know it’s in equilibrium and the reaction force ?

are reaction forces only at supports? are there reaction forces at the ends of the beam as well?
@ExamSolutions_Maths
@ExamSolutions_Maths 4 жыл бұрын
Another word for 'reaction force' is called 'contact force'. So you only get these forces when objects are in contact with each other. So there will be no reaction forces at the ends of the beams.

If there is no additional load and the beam’s supports are symmetrical about the centre of the beam, are the upward forces from each support equal?

Why is m(c) equal to zero? If it’s at equilibrium wouldn’t that mean m(d) is equal and opposite to m(c)? Sorry I’m new to this stuff

If no weight were hanging from one end of the rod then I would still draw the rod but leave out the hanging weight as there is not one present. I hope I have answered what you asked?
