This film blends La Morte D'Arthur with elements from The Ring (Wagner Opera) and the "Teutonic" Arthurian Operas. A true "Anglo-Saxon heterosexual male (are you listening Ms. Bradley?)" fantasy epic.

Ray, this is but a small yarn in the tapestry of The Matter of Britain. Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon", in my opinion, offers another worthy thread. The principal myth of English-speaking peoples invites myriad interpretations.

Kingdom of Heaven has many merits, and there is much spiritual truth in it, but this film transcends all, it's a classic, passed on almost purely from higher spheres, although parts of the truth of this legend have been lost, whereby it lost its high meaning, just like many of the grail legends. Yes, there were artists in Germany who were able to pass on aspects of the Truth to mankind, and I would not at all be surprised to find out that Boorman was actually Wagner in his last life, knowing how the Wheel of Life works, as we humans transmigrate through various lives. From spiritual knowledge I have acquired, I know that men fell long ago into darkness, and as a result a King fell in higher planes, but in the lowest of Temples in Creation, so he was unable to help pass on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit from the very real Holy Grail, which exists at the summit of Creation. There a Temple, or Castle exists, of remarkable size, and it is tended by the King of Creation, alias the Will of the Almighty, Who ensures that the magical power of God Almighty passes on to Creation, to maintain and sustain it. If it was ever cut off, as legends tell, then Creation would fall into decay. Thus, this meaning became entwined with the fall of the King in the lowest Temple, a replica of the highest one, and it was here that Amfortas fell, severing the passage of God's holy power, so then the a Part of the King of Creation, called Parsifal, as a Part of Immanuel in the Divine, had to traverse from the holy heights to heal this wound. He was also called, the Son of Man, and had to bring the Judgment upon mankind, who had fallen deeply, away from the Light, and into the clutches of the Dark Lord, Satan, a former Archangel, who on becoming conscious of himself, rather than a pure servant of God Almighty, fell away from God too, losing his pinions thereby, and becoming stuck in Creation. Just drop the tas from Amfortas, and it easily becomes Athor, as f is pronounced th, and m is silent, and thus you have the original Arthur, who was replaced by Parsifal, later Perceval. The sword Excalibur is the meant to be the actual Divine Sword of Justice, linked with the Final Judgement, and is also therefore connected to God's loyal servants, who are the housebuilders of Creation, and who bring about any karmic events, whilst we humans are guests thereby. The power of the Sword On High is now driving any karma out of men's lives, so it will destroy some who have sunk too low, who can no longer bear the Light, whilst the better of mankind, will use this suffering to awaken to God's laws, which they will once again serve, in a new Kingdom of God, which will follow the Apocalypse, that is caused by the accumulation of men's karma and guilt from down the ages. WW3 and a nuclear holocaust will be a part of this, sadly, but later the earth will be cleansed by the elemental servants of God, who also bring many natural and supernatural events unto the earth. Imanuel, through Parsifal was meant to be the first King of the Earth, and to bring these tragic events to a close. After them, a prototype Temple of the One on Holy Hts, with a Chalice, will be built upon a Holy Mt, in the Tyrol, which is the holiest place in the world. The Nazis and the Darkness managed to interfere with this process, and so the Judgement was saved for a later date, which I sense is 2028, and things will greatly deteriorate then in 2033/34, as WW3 breaks out. Thus now, someone else must become King on Earth, as a servant and representative of Imanuel, and knowing who he is, I shall keep quiet for now, but it will come, mark ye well, as will the New Kingdom of God. All of us have to bring this about though by living good lives, being intuitive and spiritual, and quietening the intellect, which has caused all the issues with man's spirit for a long time, due to the cunning of Satan, who saw men's weaknesses from the beyond. So the Message I leave you with is that these myths were based on reality, a hard reality, that will soon hit man in his face, and confront him with the question, is to be, or not to be, for thou whole exitence depends upon how ye answer this question. To be, we must follow the King, by finding and obeying God's laws, be true to truth, honourable, humble, and let the sense of beauty floursih within your heart, in all matters. Then, you will be a Knight, my friend, and a worthy one at that. Amen!!!

I've seen entire CGI spectacles with 3 hour run times that dont even come close to the artistic efficiency of this scene.

CGI is great when producers know how to augment a film with it, Problem is that it is cheap so it gets overused for bigger profit margins and CGI is often soulless. Practical effects have been in the hands of real people and when you have to handle or wear something for real, it is a big difference from something purely computer generated. Terry English, the guy who made and designed most of the armor in this movie said something similar and more eloquent when he was in Adam Savage's tested.

I truly don't think that it's possible to beat the ending scene of this film. This is my favourite version of king arthur on screen. A perfect mix of classic music and great acting. Whenever I yearn to watch a great fantasy film, I always watch excalibur.

Spare a thought for Perceval. The humblest knight; a peasant. The most loyal, true and chivalric of them all. He did not fall as Lancelot did. The only one to come back from the grail quest. The only one to bear witness to Arthur’s passing to Avalon. The only one to watch as magic fades from the world. The only one who will bring Arthur’s legend to the world. The loneliness incomparable he must feel.

@@PeonSanders911 Perceval actually exists, and as I explained above in the replies, Arthur came from Amfortas, who fell due to his impurity. The knights in this lowest Temple of Creation then prayed for help, for a new leader, to pass on the spiritual radiations from the Temple on high, where the Holy Grail actuaully exists. This is the transmission point of God's power and magic, which brings Creation into being, then maintains and sustains it. The King there is Parsifal, and so He came into the lower realms of Creation, to appoint a new King in the lowest replica of the Temple on high, described in Revelations, and He then came onto the earth, incarnated in a human body, or a part of Him was. This was the Will of the Almighty too, alias the Son of Man, and Bearer of the Holy Grail, and therefore the King of Kings, the Grail King. He came here to bring the Divine Will into our world part, by which greater power could enter the earth, and raise men's spirits higher, and connect them to the Divine Will. The last effects of this will see the Apocalypse occur, which is the end of all men's karma from down the ages, which was caused by the Fall of Man, and which affected Amfortas, or Arthur, higher up, so much of God's power was severed. After the darkness has destroyed darkness in these coming storms, when hell comes to earth, then a new Kingdom will commence, the Kingdom of God, during which those worthy of it can redeem their themselves, and partake in a Thousand Years Kingdom, when they can incarnate and complete their Wheel of Life, and then return home, to Paradise, which is a spiritual plane above the temporal earthly realms, which are prone to birth, decay and rebirth. Parsifal was meant to be the new King in this time, forming a straight line between summit of Creation, and the earth. Now He relies upon the power of a Star, or Comet, which is already driving many of the events we see, and one day will materialise, and after encircling the earth for some time, will stop over a Holy Mt, where the New King will be awaiting to proclaim the New Kingdom of God. This Star is full of powerful energy from On High,, and by the time it arrives at the Holy Mt in the Tyrol, much of men will have been destroyed, for all the old must come to pass, before a new world will arise in its place, built by the nature spirits, who are at the time, the servants of God! AMen!

It's that Percival replaced Lancelot as the best Knight. Only he could bear the tribulations and temptations of the Grail Quest. Only an ideal knight who was devout in his faith could understand the Grail and its meaning and bear it back to Arthur. In the end, only he could be trusted to obey Arthur and not keep Excalibur for himself. Even when he disobeys him the first time, it was because he didn't want to throw away a symbol that could keep England together. It was his trust in his king that it would all work out, that another worthy king would come and claim Excalibur, that led him to obey him in the end. The movie's Percival is actually a combination of a couple of Arthurian knights. The literary *Percival* was a child whose father and brothers were knights who died during the wars. He was raised by his mother in seclusion in a vast forest preserve to be ignorant of the outside world to keep him from becoming a knight. When he found out about his mother's deception, he left the forest to become a knight at King Arthur's court. *Gareth* was a peasant boy from the kitchens, nicknamed by the sarcastic Sir Kay as 'Beaumains' ("Pretty Hands") for his soft, uncallused hands. In most versions he is secretly the son of King Lot of Lothian and brother to the 'Orkney Knights' Gawaine and Gaheris who was in disguise to earn his spurs on merit rather than his parentage. He was the only one brave enough to take on a quest for the rude and cruel Dame Lynette to rescue her sister Lady Lyonesse from Sir Ironside of the Red Lands. He was knighted by Lancelot, who admired his bravery, when no other knight would demean themselves to knight a peasant. *Galahad* was the bastard son of Lancelot and Lady Elaine of Corbenic. She tricked him through the use of a magic ring to cast an illusion to impersonate his true love Guinevere. Galahad was the only knight to defeat Lancelot in combat and was the only knight able to sit in the Siege Perilous ("Seat of Danger", an enchanted chair at the Round Table protected by powerful magic) without dying.

This movie has such beautifuly composed scenes. Its the only version that does the Arthurian legend justice, with mysticism, wonder and hope. The transition between the age of magic and paganism and the age of men and christianity is also beautifuly depicted, which are aspects of the legend that are often just ignored because nobody has the courage and the talent to tastefuly explore these themes nowadays.
