It has always been this way since the industrial revolution started. In publishing (typesetters), in manufacturing (obviously) too many subjects to pick (assembly lines, then robots), in transportation (put livery stables right out of business), in offices (computers, printers)etc., etc. Try to find a career that automation will at least be delayed, (plumbing, electrical, carpentry) but even there manufacturing will largely take over. Each model had their fair share of drops, road rash, slammed against the wall (via arguing with the wife) and even dropped in the toilet. None broke or required repair and works as normal. Your tv if not a Samsung or sony/hitachi/Panasonic is made in China. Pretty much every electrical gadget you own is made in China or Korea and Japan. I’m not vouching for China as a whole cause yes majority of the stuff they make is junk. But in fairness there are some products and equipments they make that lasts a long time. So many comments on here without substance. The second largest Excavator exporter out of China , behind Sany, is Caterpillar. Sany is privately owned, not government. The manufacturing facilities are the most modern in the world, they offer the best warranty on the chassis boom and dipper, only achieved by using good quality steel and quality welding. Over 50,000 excavators produced each year, using components many other manufacturers use, Cummins, Isuzu, Deutz, Kawasaki, Mitsubishi. Productive machines. Agree cabin aspect needs to be improved for operator comfort, they will achieve this, and in 5 years the brand will be just as known as the top 5 in the world.

people used to talk about work that way in North America , 30 or 40 years ago, back when the coolest people were those who worked. Now we idolize those who never do any work... figured out how to get rich without working. That painter has probably never seen people on the streets overdosing on fentanyl. He goes home with a sense of accomplishment every day.

I would have never imagined even the global need of excavators to be in the tens of thousands. I was under the impression that an excavator working moderate loads and tasks would last quite a long time (like 20 years if maintained) and still be cost-effective. Am I wrong here? I just can't imagine the need for so many new machines but clearly this company wouldn't be able to produce so many unless there is a demand for such quantities. The paint operation was also a surprise. At first, I was wondering where the paint robots were and then to learn that they tried them but went back to human painters because the robots couldn't compensate for the article swinging in it's rigging while being painted. What??!! Sounds to me like a simple adjustment of the rigging would have solved that problem and not abandoning the automated process completely! I was also surprised not to see powder coating being employed here. I am guessing that the mere size of the items painted may be the reason for this because the size of the oven needed to bake on the powder would be enormous. Might there be other reasons for the use of conventional painting here? I'm still assuming this is an epoxy paint at least? I would imagine fast-drying paint is key here too in the time frame of the manufacture. Any thoughts on this?

Just management in this plant trying to cut cost I supposed you can see the manager in the first part of the video talking about power usage on the cutting machine.. robots and machine can take over but you still need human being's to maintain and operate it it's all about cutting the cost and more profit for the Manager's CEOs ect......

The base paint is most of the time an epoxy paint, the black paint can be a quick drying alkyd/bituminous/PU modified paint. As you see, all this paints come at half the price of powder coatings and imagining the volume, most manufacturers don't go for powder coatings, other than in specific applications like engine exhaust, scr etc . And moreover, if we change some process or buy new machines, we have to calculate roi and new report suggesting advantages and disadvantages of process/machine, its never easy to convince the management. If there is some quality issues, they might cut some slack. Painting automation in my experience have not given repeatability(the same results in multiple scenarios), that's why I guess, they have discarded robots.
