Here's a tip for future use I learned from tight places on aircraft. Bolt alignment issues aside, cut a long strip of duct tape the width of the bolt-head flats. Wrap the tape in a tightening direction around the bolt head. Pulling the tag end of the tape will turn the bolt and thread it in. Duct tape is sticker than masking tape, etc., and works better.

Within 15 psi, everything's fine. I would have expected every cylinder to have more than 25 bar/ 360psi. But if they're all the same, as you have, dont worry about. If the Deutz starts fine, doesnt burn oil and doesnt blow out of the crank housing vent, run it☝️ Im working on aircooled Deutz and Güldner engines for over 20 years. Greetings from southern Germany Joe

@FarmCraft1014 ай бұрын
Thanks, great to hear. And a couple folks pointed out that my readings would be low because of the additional volume in the injector blank and the adapter. The check valve is at the hose for the gauge, so all that extra space between the check valve and the cylinder opening made the cylinders larger and lowered the compression ratio. I'm sure the deutz part for checking the compression has the check valve right at the cylinder opening to get an accurate reading.
@TheRoadmaster954 ай бұрын
@@FarmCraft101 you could be right. If you dont mind testing compression once more, why not give it a second try. Perhaps it'll show more accurate measurenents then. Good luck! The blacksmoke is fine. And when aircooled Deutz diesels idle a bit of a time, they tend to smoke a bit blue grey. Thats because of the lower cylinder teperature. Dont worry, everthing looks fine so far. I own a Deutz tractor with a F4L 912 motor, similar to your 6-cylinder. I dont see trouble at the moment, expect the turbo shaft is fried. Do the turbo, repair it and then you'll have a fine time with this reliable Deutz motor☝️

On stuff like that where you're looking and/ or reaching at a weird angle with poor access, I like to thread just the bolt in first, to make sure it will, and get a better idea of what angle it needs to be at. If you have an extra bolt, you can machine the head down, screw that in, and use it to adjust and confirm the alignment of the hard line end before trying to screw it all together.
@lloydprunier44154 ай бұрын
The Beast has to appreciate what you are doing for it. You have to show some real appreciation for Jennifer helping you out. That oil supply line needs to be a solid block drilled for the passage and then the banjo fitting on the bottom where there is room. It would have to be machined to clear the block where the other line was hitting, but that would solve one issue if it ever happens again. Thanks for sharing the real things that happen!

@ThePaulv124 ай бұрын
Many moons ago I gave you the valve adjustment procedure for an inline 6 engine Jon. I can't remember for what though. I thought I remembered all your machinery LOL. A systematic approach to valve adjustment is required. You can do it in the firing order of the engine. An inline 6 firing order is 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4. 2 full complete turns of the crankshaft is all that is required. Here it is again. Firstly "Rock" means overlap of the intake and exhaust valve, or exhaust closing while the intake is opening. Once you get #6 rocking then you're at TDC on #1 and the lifters are guaranteed to be on the base circle of the camshaft. All you have to do is turn the crankshaft 120deg to get #2 rocking, so on and so forth in the sequence below. Rock #6 adjust #1. Rock #2 adjust #5 Rock #4 adjust #3 Rock #1 adjust #6 Rock #5 adjust #2 Rock #3 adjust #4 This all works because the cylinders in an inline 6 go up and down in pairs 1&6, 2&5, 3&4 but each pair 2 strokes apart. This works for an inline 4 as well but you turn the crank 180 degrees at a time. Doesn't work for a V8, V6 or an inline 3 or 5. Works on a V12 though.

a light gray haze under load is considered perfect for most diesel engines. that small wisp of black smoke when you actuate the controls seems well within reason for my opinion as a professional diesel technician. dont forget that lower compressio will result in lower efficiency with combustion and coudl contribute to the smoke seen. dont go down rabbit holes if you dont have to. this has been an awesome series to watch. you make "farmer repairs" but in reality these techniques are the same i have done and have witnessed other professional technicians preform. you did great dude!

My late Wife and I were in the US Air Force at Luke AFB in Arizona . She was a fuel system mechanic on the F-4. I was in the fire department. She was about 5 foot 4 inches. I had to utilize her small hands many time when I was worked on our CJ-7 and Pontiac Safari Station Wagon. We sold the Safari Station Wagon because she wanted a 1979 Pontiac Trans/AM. We went to Mississippi on vacation in the T/A. The shaker hood scoop was functional. It rained HARD and water got in the cylinders and when I started it I bent 2 connection rods. She helped me pull the oil pan, figure out the offending rods and pull the heads and remove the pistons. I got two new rods and had a local machine shop install them on the pistons. She help me install the new parts and put the 6.6 L (304 Olds) back together. And off we went! SMALL hands were a must! 🖐
