Old Margie is keeping me on my toes! Found a new problem that needs to be fixed before I can do any work with her, and it turns out to be a pretty time consuming job. But I'm stubborn, and I'm determined to get this machine fully operational and reasonably dependable. Even if it kills me... ;-) Have an awesome weekend everyone!

I think the fix for your Throttle problem is a perfect case for a 3D print. I think an L shaped "leg" that could be bolted down to the top and positions in such a way that holds the handle down at full throttle would work. It would also be nicer than the giant weight thing.

@nickcody7257
@nickcody7257 Ай бұрын
I was thinking something along the same lines, but using a "comb" next to the wall of the cab. Then he could push it to the level he wants and rotate it between which ever tines are at that level. So not an L but an E with the handle slotting into the gaps in the E.
@hlevolve
@hlevolve Ай бұрын
Came to comment exactly this, you could do the E style and just turn the knob to lock it into whichever slot you want or you could just have ONE slot at the bottom for 100% throttle that you can turn the knob into but then turn it to get out of the slot and lock it into any other throttle level like normal.

Hey John I wrote a song for you it's called ... "The Hydraulic Excavator Blues" (Old Blues Style) (Verse 1) Well, I woke up this mornin', My back’s all sore and bent, Got that big ol' excavator, And she ain't workin' like what she's meant. (Chorus) I got the hydraulic excavator blues, Puttin' in them long hours, workin' in the dirt and the dew, Fixin’ problems with Large Marge but I can’t see no end, I got them hydraulic excavator blues again. (Verse 2) I crank up that engine, and the ground starts to shake, But them pistons ain't movin', lord, I can't catch a break. Hydraulic oil's leakin', it’s slowin' me down, I’m buried in this job, an’ I can't even leave town. (Chorus) I got the hydraulic excavator blues, Puttin' in them long hours, workin' in the dirt and the dew, Fixin’ problems with Large Marge but I can’t see no end, I got them hydraulic excavator blues again. (Bridge) I dreamed of a day, when I'd lay down my shovel, But this digger’s my prison, I’m stuck in this trouble. I pray that pump starts whinin’, and that boom don’t freeze, But she’s colder than a man with no whiskey to ease. (Verse 3) Well, the wife’s comin', askin' why it’s going so slow, I said, “Darlin’, you don’t know that the problems down below." The hydraulics are tired, the seals have worn thin, And I swear if I don’t quit, I’ll just dig myself right in. (Chorus) I got the hydraulic excavator blues, Puttin' in them long hours, workin' in the dirt and the dew, Fixin’ problems with Large Marge but I can’t see no end, I got them hydraulic excavator blues again. (Outro) So if you see me on the job, just diggin' through the day, I’m fightin’ with that shovel and that ole machine, come what may. 'Cause I got the hydraulic blues, lord, you know it’s true, Diggin' till the sun goes down, I’m still just passin' through.

you won't regret that solar charger. I did the same on my 7.5 tonne Hitachi mainly because the counterweight blocks all access to the engine (but is also much cheaper....). It is only 50watt and 12 volt so I have to swap from one battery to the other manually. I have angled the panel at 35 degrees to catch the winter sun and to shed dust and debris, so when it is parked up we face it north and it lives under an open barn that is open to the south. It's biggest test was two days working in a gloomy woodland and it passed that. Also useful when using it as a crane in the yard where it does lots of stop start working - you don't have to run it for five minutes each time you use it to top up the batteries.

Thanks Jon. It’s nice to see someone able to stick his head inside the large machine as you were running the cables. I can’t imagine the difficulty of working on a skid steer with a smaller, much tighter design.

You seem to have the right answers almost every time. Unfortunately “MURPHYS LAW” is a resident in all problems in an effort to attempt to make getting to solutions complicated. The 2 large nuts on the machine that you thought were the same size-maybe the previous owner or A previous owner caused or had a problem & they possibly didn’t have the right size or couldn’t get the right size. Who knows. It may have even been 1 of those “You can’t fix stupid” situations that might have happened a long time ago. I love your comedic injected approach (wink wink, pictures of seals, asking for your dogs opinion, etc.). I personally think the same way & it makes me at least feel as if I’m doing a sneak attack on MURPHYS Law with a problem solving answer. Good luck with whatever you find is the problem underneath in the back with the final drive. Great job & thanks for taking the time to capture your work with the video. Great camera work by the way. Stay safe & be careful-don’t let impatience lure you into doing something that might result in injury.

Ol' Marge is a never ending story. Makes ya wonder why the previous owner got rid of it. I imagined the throttle fix was gonna be a slotted ladder the handle would rest in. But your fix works.

You've come a long way with a machine that was totally clapped out and headed for scrap. I'm sure your very proud and your repairs are top notch as always. There was nothing wrong with the throttle cable other than it's being used wrong. That lock works as Intended as you pull the cable out to increase it's travel. Idle should be down and max RPM should be out. I'm sure over the years someone was in there to replace the cable and didn't get it right. Your problem is the connection at the Injection Pump. There's a bell crank or something missing to change the direction. TGP

You should get some high vacuum grease for your o-rings. It keeps them lubricated, sealed, and will seal up minor variations in the surfaces.
