Hi Paul. This was one of the most clear Excel tutorials I've watched. Thank you! I'm going to have a play with your templates and set them up for next year's classes. Many thanks.

Thank you for this tutorial and for the files. They are a huge help, since I'm using Excel for the first time for my gradebook. I have to show students data for how they are doing on each type of task (eg. "classwork", or "tests", etc.). Is there a way for me to extract all the columns for a particular type, to show students all their "classwork" tasks, for example? And then create a report with their average for "classwork", "assignments", "tests", etc? Ideally, I would like to create a scatterplot graph, with rows showing different types of tasks, and columns showing their letter grade, A, B, C D. So a student might see their classwork are mostly A's, but their tests might be mostly "B's. This is probably too difficult to achieve, but I'm watching Excel tutorials to try to figure out how I might do that. Thanks for any advice you might have for a "type" oriented analysis of grades.

Hi Paul, just wondering if the types (classwork, homework, participation, quizz, test) can be edited?

Is there any way to break down an assignment for multiple grades? EX: Writing assignment with composition, grammar, punctuation, and spelling grades for a single assignment? Thx!

Hi Paul, Your presentation is very impressive, especially handling absenteeism. I love how you dealt with this in the presentation. However, I want to set up a gradebook as follows for two students using the weighted percentage method. Any help would be most welcomed. Here are the actual scenarios: FIRST student obtained grades for three pieces of assignments as follow: 9/10 (1), 80/100 (1) and 30/50 (1). These were input in excel as follows: C2=10, D2=100, E2=50; C4=9, D4=80, E4=30. The total assignment weight () is H4=3. Therefore, the formula I used to calculate the overall assignment % weight is =SUM((C4/C2*100)+(D4/D2*100)+(E4/E2*100))/H4, which gave a result of 76.67%/77%...perfect. SECOND student got the following grades for the same three pieces of assignments: Abs/10 (1), 50/100 (1) and 25/50 (1). The grades were input in excel as follows: C2=10, D2=100, E2=50; C5=Abs, D5=50, E5=25. The total assignment weight () is H5=2. My problem now is trying to use a formula to calculate the student's overall assignment % weight and percentage weight (20%) for both students. Thanks again for the assistance.

Hi Howard - thanks for your comment. I think I understand the problem. I have uploaded another version of the GradebookV2 which may help to solve this issue, which can be downloaded here: www.dropbox.com/s/2i1yxno14fwxwzv/gradebookV2.xlsx?dl=0 When Student 2 is listed as 'absent' for task one, without the appropriate adjustments to the weighting, the student is (by default) given a zero for the task which obviously impacts on his/her overall grade. What I do on these occasions is adjust the weighting of each individual task so that particular assignment is not counted. I have demonstrated this in the downloadable file - see 'SAMPLE1' and 'SAMPLE2' worksheet. I hope that helps. Let me know if it doesn't. Cheers.

Paul, The formulas worked beautifully, but for you only. I am still having a challenge trying to incorporate them into my grade sheet. My I be presumptuous in asking if I can email you same for you to have the formulas work, and then you email me back the working formula version? Hope you will not see this as me not trying very hard. I appreciate your efforts Paul. Really appreciate the help. Await your favorable response.

Paul, Thank you for sharing this great video and template. How do you adjust the weight of the different categories, such as what tests are worth for example? So if I wanted to make all tests work 35%, then how would I do that? Thank you, Chris
@progers9 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Souza Hi Chris - thank you for the positive comment. Here's a link to download a refined version of one of the Grade-Book Excel Spreadsheets that I still use today: www.sugarsync.com/pf/D7542482_758_6638778912?directDownload=true There is a row which allows you to adjust the weight of each individual assessment task/test. The 'total weighting' will allow you to tally up the weighting of each task/test so each Outcome is evenly balanced. I hope that helps - let me know if you have any questions. Bear in mind, the Grading Scale' spreadsheet may need to be adjusted to suit your schools methods of assessment.

+Paul Rogers Hello and thank for the updated download link. Still. After downloading the zip and extracting the files to our google drive the generated spreadsheets (after conversion) look different than the ones on the video. Is there someway we can get in touch with you? An email probably? Thanx again
@progers8 жыл бұрын
Did you open the files in Google Docs/Spreadsheet? If so, the advance formulas and cell formatting may not work properly. All files in the .ZIP folder will need to be opened in Microsoft Word and Excel (any version will do). I hope that helps.

How do you create more categories and give them different colors?
@progers8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jacob. The categories listed in the drop-down menus are hidden in the cells: C36 to C42 ("Sample Class"). Just expand these cells and change the terms if you wish. If you would like to add additional categories/cells, just select the cell (with the drop down menu) and go to Data > Data Validation and adjust the settings. I hope that all helps.

Oh, and if you would like to change the colours to represent different categories: select the cell (e.g: H1) and go to "Conditional Formatting" in the menu. Select "manage rules" and you'll see a bunch that I've created.

how can you change the scale to be based on 100 rather than 50?
@progers9 жыл бұрын
Tom Mattos Hi Tom! I have created a new excel grade-book that is scaled to 100. You can download the documents using the new link in the description above. I also included another grade-book that I personally use for school. It has a few more fancy features that you are welcome to use, although it is scaled to 50. If you want the V2 grade-book changed to 100, I'll be happy to do that for you - just let me know. Hope that all helps.
