Mike, wonderful video that could server as a very valuable reference along with impeccably detailed PDF notes. Wow! 1. Very nice example data with conference attendees to illustrate join scenarios, especially the non-typical join scenarios 2. Left Outer Join 3 - nice example illustrating the multiplication problem with joins - PQ gives the option to bring all the rows (what I call the multiplication of data on the left side) or to aggregate and then join… this is cool 3. Nice picture of venn diagrams showing 6 join types in PQ 4. Self join example of employee table with referring employee ID is a good example . You could use ManagerID as that is the typical example of storing a hierarchy in a relation DB table structure which brings the case of self-join.

Hii Mike This is Sourabh from India. I am a huge fan of your work and daily watches your videos on KZbin to learn something new. I have decided to watch every playlist in your channel to excel in excel😀 I watched your video on merge in power query, however I stuck in one place. Dataset1 has 87k rows and 12 columns and dataset2 has 37k rows and 42 columns I have left joined the dataset1 with dataset2. When I first did it it gave me a dataset with 227k rows with duplicates. To remove the duplicates I added index column and then expanded the tables from dataset2. Then I removed the duplicates from index column. But now when I try to load the query into a table it takes forever. I have tried many times. This is my work related project. Hope you could help me in identifying the error Many thanks in advance Looking forward to hear from you. Your fan Sourabh

Hi Mike, I love this video, not only techniques but also your visual diagrams. It's so cool. I just know that we can use Left Outer Merge Queries for 2-condition lookup case and multiple match case. It seems like array formula method will be replaced by Power Query soonest. Power Query will be a new era of Excel. Thanks a lots.
@excelisfun6 жыл бұрын
But, remember, each tool has its place. There is no doubt that Power Query will replace many complicated Array Formulas, especially for data of any large size, but Formulas have one advantage over Power Query, PivotTables, and so on: Formulas in a spreadsheet update instantly when source data changes, and for some solutions that is a mandatory requirement. For example, for some Accounting or Finance solution where you have formula inputs for what if analysis and you need two lookup value Lookup, I am using formulas, not Power Query. But what is so beautiful about Office 365 Excel is that we have all the tools and we can use them how we want : ) My goal is to try and teach people the newer tools like Power Query, Power Pivot, DAX, TEXTJOIN, MAXIFS ... because most do not use these tools yet. That is why Teammates like you, Nattawut, who post links and share the excelisfun free content with the world are so helpful and actually make the World A Better Place because we are teaching people to become more efficient in what they do : ) : )

Sir, I would like to add one point in this awesome video. In the Left Outer Join's 3rd Example (at around 30:00), we could have fetched multiple Product's name based on unique Invoice Numbers in a single column separated by comma (or in multiple rows). All we have to do is to add a new Custom Column having the formula: Table.Column([InvoiceLineProductLevel], "Product") Thereafter while 'extracting values' from the resultant LIST, we can mention comma as a separator.
@excelisfun6 жыл бұрын
But I thought we were add the numbers, not getting the product names. Are you saying that we could have joined all product names, if we wanted to?
