You have to put text in double quotes, like: =IF(J1>=620,"Unhealthy","Healthy") The video illustrates the concept of Double Quotes for text in the "In Balance" example.

Without more detail about your setup, I am not sure. But maybe, if Date-Time in A1, maybe something like this: =IF(INT(A1)=DATE(2011,1,4),value_if_true,value_if_false)

Thank you for your clear and understandable explanations. I used the Function Argument Box and I didn't have to manually type in the " and so on (hope this was ok). My understanding of the Logical Test was way off! Even the value_if_true, etc., had me confused. Not now! You helped me understand the purpose of the Logical Test and the IF Function. I now not only understand "how" to do a step, but also the "why" I should do it. This knowledge makes a world of difference when you know the "whys". I am a Subscriber!

Maybe this: =IF(A1>=DAY(B1),"not delay","Delay") I think this would work better, though: =IF(A1>DAY(B1),"Past Due","Not Past Due")

This sort of formatting mistake happens all the time to people. The point of this was to see that formatting can hide decimals, but the formula will always find that mistake!

It is really interesting to see just how much boolean logic appears in computational logic. I didn't think boolean was that big of a deal when I was originally learning about it. But the more I look around with computer science, the more I see it everywhere. Granted, this is true for programming in general so it is understandable. But still.

Does anyone know why the "Your Bonus" formula wouldn't work in OpenOffice Calc? I typed the EXACT same thing in my b6, and b7 cells (3:54). B6 says "TRUE" as expected, but b7 returns "err:508" instead of either $500, or $0.00. I realize these are two different programs, but OpenOffice software pretty closely matches Microsoft Office.

Don't use IF, use VLOOKUP. Serach KZbin for "excelisfun", then click on the link to go to my channel, then click on the link for the playlist that says "Search & Find Excel Videos, Playlists, Download Workbooks - excelisfun " That video will show how to find the playlists all about VLOOKUP for grades - I have about 5 different videos for five different grading situations.
