The NCAA does receive federal funding. NCAA is tax-exempt which means they don't pay any tax but the federal government had to grant them that status. Federal government funds them by not requiring them to pay tax. I think that should change though. Political organizations which the NCAA clearly is should be taxable.

NCAA rules can never supercede state law. Hawley likes to put people on the spot but he knows that the law in Missouri is different from California. How is the NCAA supposed to get around that? The "Governing body", that means very little currently when it comes to amateur athletics. States have enacted their own NIL rules that differ from the NCAA provisions.

The NCAA is subject to Title IX because its operations are closely tied to federally funded institutions. NCAA v. Smith (1999) is the big one, but there are others. Federal law is that they can't discriminate, so they're following it. A lot of the aggrandizing here is just for political clout on culture ware issues. But if Congress doesn't like Title IX, then it is up to Congress to change it, not the NCAA. Ugh. I just defended the NCAA. I feel dirty.

We're trying, but unfortunately so much of this nation lacks "common sense" some people don't seem to understand the historical context or intent of the founding fathers and insist on arguing on grammatical misunderstandings. For example when you say it like this it makes their intent pretty obvious. When the second amendment was passed any citizen could own a cannon in which to load with grapeshot, cannon balls connected with chains, or normal/explosive cannon balls. In fact there were more privately owned warships, the most advanced weapons technology at the time, in the hands of private citizens in then the government. Which is why it's common sense that "shall not be infringed" meant we have an absolute right to whatever weapons systems the US Military has unless we're incarcerated. Notice I didn't say unless we're convicted of a violent or other crime. Because if you can't trust a person to be free with a cannon full of grapeshot you can't trust them to be free at all. Here's some common sense gun laws. Every citizen is required to be trained in firearm safety, marksmanship, and maintenance of a rifle, pistol, and shotgun while attending high school in order to graduate unless they've been legally deemed mentally deficient or a threat to themselves or others in a court of law. Every US Citizen gets one free gun safe that can store up to twenty long guns and must meet various safety standards. Invest in low income neighborhoods, especially places of color so instead of needing to resort to crime the youths have real opportunities. Universal Free Healthcare so people with mental health issues can get help, not hurt innocent people. Reform the prison system, outlaw private for profit prisons, seize them and turn them over to reformed former inmates who will form a national coalition of NPO's specifically built to manage the prisons and REFORM inmates, give the prisons foreign oversight to make sure the money isn't being wasted, the inmates are getting the help they need to reform, etc. Legalize conceal and open carry except in court houses, schools, and prisons/jails. See you are asking why don't we disarm the citizens with more vigor, and I'm asking you; why do you want to give Donald Trump's Republican controlled US federal government an undisputed monopoly on force? Why not address the social issues causing our violence instead of trying to ban the tool. Englands has been there and done that, gangsters run around with hammers to bash your skull in, it's quite; they also use knifes, which is also quite. Yet every single year that ISLAND nation has caught criminals with firearms, both real one's and 3D printed/home made crap.

The coaches are making multiple millions per year and can break their contract whenever they want, the players can commit, uncommit, change schools each year if they want, can get multiple hundreds of thousands of NIL money, while getting their $ 50k plus annual college expenses paid for.
