Hey i was wondering how you tamed your tokay geckos haha, i have a wild caught 4 month old tokay and ive been trying to tong feed her for 2 months and she just doesnt want to eat from the tongs, she just runs away and hides and whenever i try to slowly get my hand close to her she gives me a warning bite and im scared to do it again cause she might bite and i dont wanna hurt her, do you have any tips? Thank you so much in return!

For the people who are scared of being bitten there's nothing wrong with that we are genetically predisposed to fear animals it is a survival instinct, this man has mastered this through patience, education, & practice.
@phoebezhang1190

I agree, and most animals will also show in body language and sounds that they're uncomfortable and want their own space before they bite (like how a dog might growl if kids keep on petting it while he's eating) so if you pay attention to body language and ask the owner if the animal is ok with being touched at the moment, you most likely won't get bit. A lot of bites are caused by a person not reading body language, not asking the owner if it's ok to pet the animal, and the animal not being socialized and poorly trained.

You're doing such an amazing job showing us the side of Tokay geckos not shown/talked about anywhere else. Tiki and the Tokay twins are fan favs and that's because we know them as these spunky little balls of energy with huge personalities...not little terrors or pit bulls as I've also seen them referred to as (another misunderstood animal). They are just captivating! Oh and btw...I LOVED those slo mo shots. More please 😉 💚🦎💚

Congrats on the new clutch Dayyan! Looking forward to even further updates. I know my Mom's reaction when I told her I intended to keep some tarantulas was a classic example of false impressions clouding judgement. The day I told her it was the delivery she was squeamish. But as soon as I had them in their enclosures (two GBB slings) she melted at how cute they were. I catch her in my room now, observing them from time to time!

A lot of my family was the same way about snakes, but now that they've met mine (or at least seen pics/vids of them) they've gotten a lot more appreciative of them - as well as a lot calmer around and willing to let snakes be out in the wild.

First… please, PLEASE, PLEEEEEESE do more Tokay content! There isn’t enough on KZbin about this wonderful animal. Second… you have to keep the Tokay Twins!!! While Tiki and Torch are working on their family, you can work on taming/training your twins. 😁 Third… what feeder insects do you breed yourself, and how are you setting up/breeding/raising your cultures?

I've got a tokay and a pit bull, so I guess I have a thing for creatures that people think have nasty bites! My old man Guinness always changes people's minds, though... especially when they learn that he's my service dog (he's a diabetic alert dog) or see him with my three year old nephew! Thanks so much for the tokay update! I love seeing how Tiki interacts with you.

We have a Biak Green Tree Python and they are known as being bitey! I have never had an issue going in and doing daily maintenance. He checks me out but usually doesn't care too much. In the evening when he is actively hunting, we respect his natural behavior and don't push our luck by not respecting him. GTP are awesome 👌. I really enjoy the content!!!

ive had my tokay for 5 months now and wow is it hard to work with them like this. I tried holding him in the beginning a few times a week, but i decided to wait a while longer. My tokay is now starting to get used to tong feeding, but will only eat crickets and discoid roaches right now, he will not even try to eat meal/superworms. He is a little over a year old now and growing nicely. EDIT: your right about the tokay bite, mine will only bark at me if I am gently trying to get him to go onto my hand, it is startling but once you get used to it you can work around it. Ive been trying to get him used to just being near me and it seems to be working, just VERY slowly. When I feed him at night, he still is hyper focused on me at first, then once he starts to eat he relaxes a bit and starts moving around and chasing after the crickets.

Male Veiled Chameleons are something I've had people say they're afraid of, simply because their attitude lol They are naturally territorial and so when you approach them, most of the time they puff up, hiss, and lunge at you with an open mouth. It can be intimidating. However, I've bred veilds for quite some time and honestly, most of it's for show lol I've been bitten ONCE and the fella bit down, realised I wasn't very tasty, and let go very quickly. It hurt a tiny bit because they do have some sharp little teeth and good jaw force, but it wasn't something to write home about, as they say. Male veilds can be very tameable as long as you do it on their terms and start slowly; ideally when they're young so they realise you are not a threat coming to harm them. Despite people thinking they're unintelligent, chameleons are actually quite smart! My best boy, Mick (the father of 3 of my most recent clutches), is of course a big bruiser who thinks he's the meanest bull in the ring. However, once he sees my hand coming toward his enclosure he comes to the front, puts up his little display, but then comes running to walk right out onto my hand and arm to get some time out on his vines and trees. While females are normally more placid and amiable, males get a bad reputation as mean simply because of their nature. They are naturally more aggressively territorial than females which is why the put up such a bit display of macho-ness lol But, that's most of what it is, a display.When it comes to going through with the whole thing, they're big babies lol They'll bite but they usually only do it once or twice before they realise you're not there to hurt them. That said, I never push them either. If Mick keeps up his display and runs away, I leave him be as it's clear he's not up for interaction at that time or on that day. It's easy to have an instinct to grab and control the situation, but that will only lead to fear on the reptile's part since you're not respecting their boundaries. The main thing is to interact on their terms. I find food helps as well, so they associate your hand or tongs with food; a good thing. Instead of it being a threat. All of my males are tamed down as young so I don't have any issues with as much displays putting people off, but I will note that wild caught (even though I don't really advocate for it, I understand some places in the US have issues with them as an invasive species so they're often caught in 'the wild' and sold into the pet trade) veilds will have more issues with trust. It just takes time an patience, and an understanding of that species biology. Long story short, male veiled chameleons can be just as wonderful and amiable as females of the species. It can just take a bit longer to build their trust. That and, no matter what, they are likely always going to display their distaste for interaction lol Even as they're walking onto your hand and arm to come out and climb all over you like a tree LOL

QOTD: Yes there are many animals and insects that people might be too afraid to own bc of bites or stings. Like spiders, scorpions, bees, ants, birds, lizards, dogs even. I could go on and on. Some people are afraid of the cutest animal of all: squirrels! Some people are afraid of allergies from some pets. I guess you have to either live with and get over your fear or let it overtake your decision to maybe make a pet out of a certain creature. I personally would be too afraid to have a venomous snake. Great QOTD Dayyan. Teeks and Torch and the twins are so darn cute!!! ❤️

In terms of pets people might be scared of keeping: ferrets! I used to have three (I have one left) and I was pretty wary about him for a while; he's particularly bitey and can be a little spicy, but what you say about giving an animal respect and it being returned very much still applies to ferrets. While my buddy isn't the most cuddly, he's still pretty good with me - just have to watch when he wants to bite!

If you ever have a male juvenile that you’d like to ship out, send him here to Vancouver! Looking for a mate for mine once she’s old enough to be positive she’s a female. QOTD: I own an amazon tree boa and they’re definitely known to be scary and “angry” snakes. But mine is great to handle. Just need to be aware of their visual sensitivity and instincts. I don’t let him near my face and obviously my free hand shouldn’t be waved or moved around him too much or he’ll pick up on the movement

It's so weird that Tokay geckos are so mean in the wild and yet you are here able to cohabitate them.

Why do you feed so many superworms? I'm not sure about tokays but for other insectivores those don't have the best nutrition. crickets, dubias, and bsfl are better staples
