Why didn't Jesus rescue John? Jesus said there was no one greater than John. Yet, Jesus did not save him from a horribly brutal death. Why?

Most of the disciples died for the gospel. Why did God not rescue Jesus? Why did Jesus not take himself down from the cross? Because of what the Resurrection would do. Being great doesn't mean you won't have to die or suffer... It's about the life to come and Spiritual life, more than it is physical.

@@steflondon88 Jesus died as a sacrifice for our sin. John didn't. Neither did any of the apostles. They believed in Jesus. They suffered and died horrible deaths for it. If someone called to me because they were facing something awful, I said how great they are but did not help, especially if I could, what good am I?

@@steflondon88 Jesus would have known John's fate. He is God. How can we trust if he allows this to someone as great as John and all his apostles? That is the question, I am asking. I have yet to have a pastor adequately answer this question.
