Ford always knew the potential of building their engines with a Flat plane crank layout, but never pulled the trigger for consumer use because the american automakers felt that the american buyers did not want higher reving engines, the notion that american engine were resorting to making power like small european engines was not something they thought the american buyer wanted. Americans wanted big bloaty gas guzzling power with lots of torque in the lower revs. Also.. they understood that going with a higher reving FPC engine would not only create more vibration, but that higher revs ment more quality in thier builds. so they strayed from going in that direction. Then came the Ford Shelby GT350. and the idea was that here we have two engine close in spec, between the Ferrari and the Ford, what if the Ford generated power in the same manner as the Ferrari. In the end they were astouonded by the results, far better than they anticipated. the power spread throughout the RPMs perfectly. and where mustangs typically fallen out of breath upon acceleration, The FPC voodoo engine was just getting started, Delivering power exactly where it was most wanted. Here was an engine that many including myself who long read up of use of the FPC over a full decade earlier , saw as the engine that ford shouldve built decades ago. Ford's and GM's own internal Bias and predjudace towards european builds had prevented them making truly great engines. Thankfully Ford had improved with its operations ever since Alan Mullaly took the lead and placed greater followers after him. Dave Peresack has been the gold standard for fords performance division. and with the success of the Shelby GT350 FPC engine GM was bound to follow that lead and they did with the z06.

Voodoo engine is based off of the coyote which is massed produced the Zo6 is in a league of its own GM knew what they were doing when they pulled it from their race car and made it for the street I’m definitely curious to see what Ford has planned now both Ford and Chrysler are going to have to come up with something iconic to compete especially when the ZR-1 comes out knowing it’s probably going to be forced induction and producing some really high numbers I would expect nothing less than 750hp
@c.j.10893 жыл бұрын
I just refuse to compare the Mustang, a car engineered to cost $27k base model, with a Corvette. The high performance mustangs are, at their core, a $27k design with a bunch of stuff on them. The Corvette is nothing of the sort. They should never be compared. It's Ford's fault for not making a true purpose designed sports car, outside of their unicorn fart GT.

I agree! I own a gt350 and it's the best car I've ever had. GM did copy Ford with this idea of a high revving flat plane crank motor with carbon fiber wheels, but this car is amazing! Emissions and regulations are forcing turbos and electric, which lets face it, really kill the joy out of driving. Electric is ultimately the fastest, end of discussion, but its about the journey, not the destination. This is not only the swan song not only for Corvette, or American cars, this is the swan song of all cars. This is the corvette that doesn't rest on the laurels for being the champion of value, but instead is just one of the best cars period.

@@AMGTT To an automotive Audiophile, this engine does not sound exactly like the F136 engine. While the FpC V8 produces that familiar sound signature, the overall characteristics provide each with a unique charm and a different overall note when comparing them side by side. I'm not going to say one sounds better than the other, that is purely subjective and personal preference, but I think the differences will become much more prevalent to people as the Z06's start rolling out and people begin doing louder aftermarket exhausts. Regardless, I think this was a great move for GM and it ticks all the boxes where the previous C8's fell flat. It also makes SIGNIFICANTLY more power than the F136 engine of the 458 thanks to some creative modern tech, further distancing themselves from one another.
@Ritalie2 жыл бұрын
An American pushrod V8 engine has always been the best sounding engine in the world. Nothing sounds even close to as nasty, mean and raspy. If you listen to a Viper, they sound timid and frail in comparison. I am not sure yet if I'm sold on this overhead cam flat plane crank engine. But a V8 engine is the best engine configuration in a car, because nothing can beat the sound of 8 cylinders. It's the magic number.

I own a 2019 C7 and I love it. I just recently bought a 2022 GT 500 and that car is beyond believe special. I would still love to have a new Z06.

Carbon Revolution wheels are actually an example of Australian efficiency and engineering. But bravo to GM for choosing the best (And only) worldwide OEM supplier of one-piece carbon fibre wheels. Love the channel, and love the car, the future is looking very bright for Corvette !

Dare I say, ONLY GM could make this engine at this price. GM has a lot of faults but they do know how to make a V8 engine and have forever. It’s nice to see this trend continue beyond our imaginations.

Really want to hear the Shelby gt350 flat plane crank side by side with this one. Both are epic.

I’m so happy that Chevy made these incredible mid engine sports cars for a relatively affordable price. These kind of sports cars shouldn’t only be for the super rich

I'd still buy a 911(used)
@pete67053 жыл бұрын
@@gewglesux I'm a huge 911 fan too, but those cars barely depreciate, even the used ones are super expensive. To get a similar price to the Z06, you'd probably have to get an older model base 911. Tough call when you put that up against a much faster Z06 with 2022 tech and features.
@gewglesux3 жыл бұрын
@@pete6705 Agreed.. I'd still rather have an older 911.. Sure the Vette might be faster and it might have newer features..... but the 911... there might be a reason they don't depreciate. how far back would you have to go back in a 911 to spend Chevy kinda Money?

@@gewglesux Porsche 911s are the exotic sports cars I see with ski racks and mud. They actually get used.

@@Winterstick549 Agreed.. i saw that in Europe. didn't know you could fit a 911 with ski racks.
