This is nothing but an experience I had one time in 2016 when I flew to the Dubai International Airport. As you all know, Dubai is in a desert, and it rarely ever rains, but that day there had been an insane rain shower. Since there's no sewers in Dubai, everything was flooded, including the runways. So we ended up circulating around the airport for at least half an hour before we could land, and I just found it funny how everything was so chaotic only because of rain. I'm from Denmark, so I'm used to it, but it's a totally different thing in Dubai. I also remember that we could see all the other planes in line behind us after we'd landed, and it made me realize how many aircrafts actually land in Dubai every day. It's a lot. But anyway, I just wanted to share it because I've flown to Dubai plenty of times, but this is the one time that really stands out to me. Thanks for reading :)

i was at first shocked to see rackmount Sun servers in there, but then i remembered that those systems are so complex they need years to build and test before running for another long period. load issues aren't really common since it's sized to the job from the start. (with rarest exceptions)

There are 3 types of ATCs : ground control, departure/approach control , and radar control. First manages the ground operations (taxi, runway selection, terminal clearance, etc), second manages landing / takeoff and it's local to the airport like the first one. Radar control is for traffic transiting the country's airspace.
@YoanGraf2 жыл бұрын
There are waaay more than 3 positions. Depending airports, you might have : Delivery, apron, ground, planner, aerodrome, dep/app and radar. Now that's just for civilian traffic. If you add military one, you get even more positions, like precision app, mil guidance, tactical atco and so on.. But usually the guy managing landings, departures and all movements on the runway is absolutely not the approach controller. It's the ADC, or aerodrome controller.
@sliferxxxx2 жыл бұрын
In the US, you generally have three types of facilities: ATCT, TRACONS and ARTCC. ATCT= Airport Traffic control towers, TRACON= Terminal radar approach control, ARTCC= Air route traffic control center. Lots of facilities are either of these three or combinations. Within each facility, there are a multitude of positions. Ex: MIA is a combination tracon and atct or what we call an up-down.

12:33 this is completely incorrect. AP is not always landing the aircraft, Only in bad weather where the pilots are not able to see the runway until Minimums. Also, a CAT III approach executed by the autopilot will most likely be a harder landing then if a pilot were to land the plane manually. This is because the AP is not programmed to flare as much so it doesn't overshoot the landing zone.
