I mean, they kicked out of the band so many original members, and dressing out in their original jumpsuit won't fool any real slipknot fan, that is they fucked up with Joey, did the same to Jay, and may very well do the same to Eloy in 5, 6, 10 years, should he stay for so long, which I hope he does.

@Frankenberry7 ай бұрын
I know a lot of people are bummed about Jay being gone, and like everybody else, I of course miss Joey... But at the end of the day, this is the best case scenario. Eloy is probably the best drummer on the planet right now, and I'm just so happy that he got that gig because he just seems to be such a great dude, worthy of the honor. But personality aside, the guy is just a beast. SO much power, finesse, and an almost mechanical like timing. The dude's a human metronome. This is the best I've heard some of these older songs sound...I think Eloy may even be technically better than Joey was. I know a lot of people will see that as heresy... But, I truly believe it.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to Joey at all... I just really feel like Eloy is the right guy for the job. Joey was of course a phenom... brought a WHOLE new style to metal. But, I believe Eloy is the equivalent to that of this generation. And the guy's ability just cannot be overstated.
@AnubisSilva7 ай бұрын
ITs not heresy, anyone who plays ANY instrument can tell Eloy is WAY better than Joey, theres no comparison really.
@3allz7 ай бұрын
As a drummer of 30 years I can safely say that Eloy is better than Joey (in my opinion). Joey was revered because he was so revolutionary and influential but he was never technically even in the top 10. Just like most groundbreaking musicians, they build something new using inspiration from their own idols and musical heroes and thats what Joey did; inspired by the metal bands in his youth (i.e. Slayer, Metalica, Anthrax, Pantera, etc etc) and developing his own style/sound for HIS generation and now his legacy lasts on forever in the pantheon of metal gods like the guys that originally inspired him. Don't get me wrong either, Joey still had some amazing chops and stamina but Eloy is, as Jim said in the video, a _world class_ drummer... i.e. probably the best in his genre right now (and we've all seen how hard he's worked for it). As for Jay Weinberg... nothing personal but lets just take note of the difference in reaction to Eloys first gig and being announced compared to Jays and I think nothing more needs to be said. There's a reason why everyones losing their mind over Eloy and didn't with Jay.

All this nationalism by Brazilians and even south americans has something close to an explanation. It's not normal for Brazilian (and South American in general) artists to be successful worldwide, even when they're fking awesomem. Being awesome is not enough. It's a victory for us that someone from here actually got it. Someone from the USA or Europe wouldn't understand. We feel that in minimal ways. From even memes originated here, to voice actors/actors making part of big movies; like Wagnenr Moura as Death in puss in boots. I can't explain, it's just a unique sense of community; by the "disadvantaged".

With Sepultura I see it as the end of a cycle in which Eloy was the key to everything, Sepultura's last 2 albums were really very good and this goes mainly through Eloy's drums, Eloy's preparation for metal music was meticulous well oriented, the guy took classes with Aquiles Priester who is one of the best and was in charge of Angra's drumsticks, then Eloy is invited to play in André Matos' solo band, André Matos being one of the best musicians in his genre of metal and finally the preparation with Sepultura, a legendary band with worldwide repercussion where Eloy was able to increase the level, I believe we will see Eloy's peak in Slipknot, and it is strange to see how the ties intertwine throughout history, Slipknot which was a band influenced by Sepultura in the 90s, now receives from Sepultura the energy necessary to continue.

I have a theory where Jim is the one who pushed heavily and was a main force in dismissing Jay and pushed heavily for Eloy. From everything Ive seen and heard from Jim he sounds like one of the most vocal about something needing to change and the idea of possibly replacing Jay before the next cycle of the band started up. He mentions the replacement of the drummer not happening at a better time. No hate and if true in any way everyone has been respectful. But i can also say from hearing Jay fumble quality and the power needed over an extended period of time, especially with how much video and recordings there are from the last tour which show an inability for in my opinion quality to be kept up to a standard the band had to of known this before any of us and the frustration from it seems to show with Jim more than anyone. i think they knew Jay would be fired once the new creativity and writing new music needed to be started. the 25th anniversary happened to be that. without the constant touring and a need for Jays experience to just fill that seat. i would guess and not be surprised if Jay was let go well before this if they took a break for new music to be written. Jim seems reinvigorated and taking the lead in championing Eloy and the skills he is bringing so far.
