Langston is just ridiculous.Lanser for Obscura, Obsidious is so tasteful but Deapold n Kolias have the speed of sound and difficulty Mastered. Hell I could go on n on n then probably some more. I'm a brazilian drummer. Before getting into the drumkit, I've played on a Samba School, a type of drum line that plays a characteristically specific type of samba, with sizes ranging between 15-200 percussionists. My main instrument was the Repique, which is the metallic sounding tom Eloy has on a stand to the far left of his kit. Having said that, this video was the single most impressive drumming performance I've ever seen. He's sounding like a whole samba school by himself, while also adding in tweaks characteristic to the traditional drumkit like his masterful cymbalwork. Every rudiment on the book has been used here, in every combination possible, with every dynamics configuration. I've detected so many grooves and fills from samba, and some from other genres too. This is incredible. Slipknot is lucky to have this man drumming for them. I can't wait to see what he comes up with in their new album, because with the current Slipknot's discography, Eloy's skills are going to be totally underexplored.

That genre/rythym he's playing around the 2-min mark through 4+ min, is Samba, and it's usually played by AT LEAST 3 people. In Samba/Pagode the musicians use "parts of the kit" separately, as their own individual instrument (Toms, Floor Tom (Surdo), and a "Pandeiro"). Of course they're not actually drum parts, I was just trying to paint a picture. XD

The first is the music of carnaval apresentations that those large groups of percussion train every year to play every february, the month of Carnaval. The second, is the most traditional cultural act in brasil, that are played by families and friends in the weekend after a good brazilian barbecue, actually the real original one, Churrasco, with the cheaper beer of the market and the smile coming from ear to ear. Yes, Eloy can play this alone.

The work he did on the Quadra album with sepultura is unbelievable. The fact he can play any style is why he is the greatest drummer of all time, nobody comes close to him. This Brazilian instrumentation is just obscene. Then when you see him play metal it’s MURDEROUS. The Mike Tyson of metal drumming, seen him live and it’s beyond belief. The greatest ever. In this video Eloy basically plays two Brazilian rhythms, the first is samba which is famous all over the world and in the second part of the video he plays a very popular rhythm in the northeast of Brazil called "Baião". The impressive thing is that he managed to put his identity into these two rhythms, you can understand that he plays "Samba" and "Baião", but you can hear it and say "this is unique". Below I will leave videos of what these rhythms are originally played for knowledge and study. Baião: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYSYg2R6lraBrKM Samba: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XToH2bqtyeqLs The impressive thing is that he managed to sound like a "Escola de Samba" on his own: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2PGeoBnZqtpeZY

This proves that Eloy UNBELIEVABLY OVERQUALIFIED for the Slipknot gig. I don't think most metal fans really understand where he's from: BRAZIL. Brazilian traditional percussionists are BAR NONE the finest & most technically gifted musicians to EVER pound a rhythm out on a drum head, FULL STOP. It is possibly the deepest & most diverse drumming tradition on Earth; there is probably a young baterista (drummer) living in abject poverty in the favelas (shantytowns/slums) in the hills above Rio de Janeiro RIGHT NOW who can 100% wipe the floor with Eloy- WIPE. THE. FLOOR. WITH. HIM!!! it's actually scary just how deep rhythm flows though that country's culture; some folks may be rich, some may be poor, some successful, some utter failures. But EVERYBODY there has RHYTHM!
@Waylon_Gnash4 ай бұрын
well said. he is incredible though. i think less because of technicality and more because of how unique his style is. he can play drum parts i've heard hundreds of times and when i'm looking at him, i can't tell what he's doing exactly. he's super unorthodox regarding his stance, the way he hunches over a little when he's playing very heavily. his drums are all the fuck out of order compared to another drummer, but i can't tell by looking if he's left-handed or not. i don't think he is. that configuration doesn't make any sense. the floor tom to the left of your snare which is also on your left, one tomtom to the left of your hi-hat? lol. i've seen some goofy drum configurations, but that's the weirdest one. reminds me of the way i rearranged my keybinds for playing video games when my right hand became paralyzed and i had to relocate certain controls around wherever i could fit them in.

Around half of the paterns that he plays are - traditional - ones. Things that you can hear in the streets, in bars, parties, procecions. That what we hear all our lives ! The superlative here is the speed and the conections in betwin the ritims cells.
